Debate Over Solar Panels Rages

Comment For Obama’s clean air act!
08-09-2013

Environmentalist want Clean Air, Wind Power, and Solar Power, but yet they won’t let them bury wires under ground to get concerted to the grid, and now they are complaining about how to install them.

Come-on people, you either want clean air or you want power to live in comfort, Dams and Steam Power can cover more homes than windmills covering many acres or miles of land, just drive around and see how much land is for these wind mills, a lot of this land to be used for other things.

Another thing, you put Solar Panels on your roof, and later on down the road you get a leak in your roof, what is the cost to remove and reinstall them because your roof leaked, did any one ever think about that.

People pushing them and people selling them don’t tell you that there is a cost to remove and install them after fixing their roof.

Debate over solar panels rages on in Kirkland

By Jeff Burnside
Published: Aug 9, 2013

KIRKLAND, Wash. — A group of Kirkland residents say the solar panels in their neighborhood are an eyesore, and they want the city to do something about it.

The residents say the problem stems from a lack of clear laws and permits for solar panels, which are different in every city and county.

Troy Carpenter said a solar panel installed next door reaches across his property line and reflects sunlight right at his house.

“There’s lots of good ways to do solar projects and we’re very pro solar. But there’s also bad ways to do solar projects. This is a great example,” Carpenter said.

Carpenter’s neighbor got permits for the panels, but the code is vague.

“There’s concern that we really ought to change our regulations,” said Kirkand Planning Director Eric Shields.

The city of Kenmore is also dealing with some backlash related to its solar panel laws.

Patrick O’Brien used to have 20 solar panels mounted on a sturdy frame next to his Kenmore house, but those panels are now stacked in his backyard.

“On a day like this, it ‘d be a perfect day to be making lots of electricity,” he said.

The city claims he didn’t follow the rules and recently ordered him to remove the panels or pay $200 a day in fines.

“This, this is a crime. This is a crime. This is administrative crime. It could have been totally averted if the city has just done what they told me were the rules at the beginning,” O’Brien said.

Experts say there’s enough sun in the northwest to make solar panels financially and environmentally worthwhile, but the complex permits required to install the panels are slowing growth.

“Why not combine all of those into one single permit that gives everybody all the information they need at once? Pretty straight forward, pretty simple,” said Mike Nelson, a leading expert in solar energy.

Unifying those rules would require action in the state legislature, but Nelson said there’s nothing currently in the works.

Signs of Destrution

Comment:   He might be a swell of a person, but a leader of this Country, he is not.
July 28th 2013

obama_symbolI can see a lot of problems mentioned in this video, one is Republicans saved money on campaign stage, Democrats spent large amounts of money for theirs, and to this day they are constantly spending large amounts with no regards to Americans and their Future Generations.
Look at the Obama seal on his webpage in 2008, impressive, an eagle ready to fly away, an American Flag slowly disappearing, and the Obama Symbol getting brighter. Listen to the video.

At the rate this Country is going down, I think Obama is going to try to get the Constitution and the Bill of Rights changed to where he can stay in office as long as he wants.

thCA6OLW70

This is a President that turn his back on the American flag when it is being honored, this is not a person who is for America and the Constitution, and wanting it to survive, he wants to see his flag flying over this Country.

What is Race? What is Slavery? and What is United?

Comment For Your Thoughts
July 22nd 2013

What is race?

Go look in a Dictionary and you will see many definitions, but you will not see that it all breaks down to one meaning, some one is something that you are not, or, trying to be better than some one else, trying to be the richest, or trying to be number one.

Can you deny that you don’t want the most money, that you don’t want to be numero uno, the top dog.

Look around you, you have one group that think they are the supreme and can do any thing they want, and in the mean time they are giving people who will stand up for this Country and fight for it to keep it free, then you have ones that will do any thing to cause trouble, these are cowards, they hide behind masks and ware hoodies to hide their faces, they destroy property, they don’t care who owns it, just as long as they can destroy some thing, or steal what ever they can get their hands on.

I am not talking about any one race, all it takes is one, and the rest follow, I can say one thing Blacks do stand up for their rights, but they go to far, however, the rest of the people could care less what happens to this Country. Look at the laws that have been passed and what have they done, nothing, why because they believe what the news media says, they don’t listen to all sides, they take it as the  gospel truth, the news media only want’s to sell papers not the truth.

What is Slavery?

Slavery is what all working class people are today, they are slaves to the rich, same as in the past, slave owners were the rich and backed by Government, and the same stands today, so no matter who you are today, if you are not corporate execs, at the top, then you are a slave and have to abide by their rules, no matter what color you are. You can say that you don’t work and are getting aid from the Government, well then, you are a slave of the Government, if you are not the top dogs then you are a slave.

What is United?

It sure not this Country today, this Country has become a nation of the divided, where would this Country be today if early settlers had not fought to be free from Dictators, well look around you, you have let this Country slowly move back to that time when we had the wars here, is this what people want today is to go back to where one person rules this Country, if not you are doing a very good job of going back in time.

This Country can not call it a UNITED States, it is a long way from it today, today people have become more divided now then they were in the past, and as long as we have people trying to keep every one fighting each other, we will never become UNITED and be able to ward off a Dictator.

Come on people let stop fighting each other, let protest against these people who are keeping this Country from Uniting, causing hate among people, if we want to form a better union we have to join arm and arm and fight unjust taxing, Discrimination, and a Dictating Government before we start fighting against our selves, it is its people who make a Country great, not the Government, people are the Government, not the other way around, and today the Government is the problems of every thing going wrong.

Any one other than a black Shoots or hurts a Black, you have a riot and destruction, and not all of them in these riots are black, but that is what they want you to believe, but turn every thing around, so what’s the big deal, there no discrimination when the reverse happens.

========================================================================

The following was written by Ben Stein and recited by him on CBS Sunday Morning Commentary.
971659_10201821470364958_692813271_nYou know Ben Stein has a good comment about this Country of today: My confession: I don’t like getting pushed around for being a  Jew, and I don’t think Christians like getting pushed around for  being Christians….

I think people who believe in God are sick and tired of getting pushed around, period.

I have no idea where the concept came from, that America is an explicitly atheist country. I can’t find it in the Constitution and I don’t like it being shoved down my throat.

Or maybe I  can put it another way: where did the idea come from that we should worship celebrities and we aren’t allowed to worship God  as we understand Him?

I guess that’s a sign that I’m getting old, too. But there are a lot of us who are  wondering where these celebrities came from and where the America we knew went to.

In light of the many jokes we send to one another for a laugh, this is a little  different: This is not intended to be a joke; it’s not  funny, it’s intended to get you thinking.

In light of recent events – terrorists attacks, school shootings, etc. I think it started when Madeleine Murray O’Hare (she  was murdered, her body found a few years ago) complained she didn’t want prayer in our schools, and we said OK.

Then someone said you better not read the Bible in school.

The Bible says thou shalt not kill; thou shalt not steal, and love your neighbour as yourself.  And we said  OK.

Then Dr. Benjamin Spock said we shouldn’t spank our  children when they misbehave, because their little personalities would be warped and we might damage their self-esteem (Dr.  Spock’s son committed suicide).  We said an expert should know what he’s talking about.  And we said okay.

Now we’re asking ourselves why our children have no conscience, why they don’t know right from wrong, and why it  doesn’t bother them to kill strangers, their classmates, and themselves.

Probably, if we think about it long and hard  enough, we can figure it out. I think it has a great deal to do with, ‘WE REAP WHAT WE SOW.’

Funny how simple it is for people to trash God and then wonder why the world’s going to  hell. Funny how we believe what the newspapers say, but question what the Bible says.

Funny how you can send  ‘jokes’ through e-mail and they spread like wildfire, but when you start sending messages regarding the Lord, people think  twice about sharing.

Funny how lewd, crude, vulgar and obscene articles pass freely through cyberspace, but public discussion of God is suppressed in the school and workplace.

Are you laughing yet?

Funny how when you forward  this message, you will not send it to many on your address list because you’re not sure what they believe, or what they will  think of you for sending it.

Funny how we can be more worried about what other people think of us than what God thinks of us.

Pass it on if you think it has merit.

If not, then just discard it. No one will know you did. But, if you discard this thought process, don’t sit back and complain about what bad shape the world is in.

My Best Regards, Honestly and Respectfully,

Let’s Give a BIG Hand to California Again!

Comment for Bigots
July 11th 2013

Have you ever noticed that all laws of this Country come out of California, and from the Democrats, examples (cars, power, cigarettes, farming), and that you, the American Citizen have to abide by, and after they got these laws passed in California, they moved to other states and wanted them to follow these same laws every where they went, if these laws were so great than why did they move out of that great state, I know I know, after they were passed, just like every thing else in California, they could no longer afford to live there, and now they are doing the same thing to all the States where they are moving to.

If you want to live with California Laws and Taxes, MOVE back, and leave the other states alone and stop Bankrupting them with your greed and Laws.

It Only Took About 20 Years for the U.S. to Turn Smokers into Pariahs

Emily Badger, The Atlantic Cities      Health
07-10-2013

The public smoking ban is a relatively recent invention. The first outdoor ban identified by the American Nonsmokers’ Rights Foundation was put in place in 1975 in Yolo County, Calif., which outlawed smoking in all public parks. The idea didn’t exactly take off. Another two decades would go by before the policy — in public parks, on beaches, in children’s playgrounds — would spread around California and then throughout the U.S., rapidly transforming a once-acceptable social norm into something hazardous to your kids, your lungs and the environment.

RELATED: It’s Time to Lay Off the Morning Cigarette

In the late ’90s, communities in Massachusetts and Rhode Island created the first beach smoking bans. By 2006, seven more states had them as well. By 2011, 23 states did. The rise of the park smoking ban has been even more dramatic: By June of 2011, municipalities in all 50 states had them.

RELATED: A Few New Yorkers Will Go to Great Lengths to Keep Smoking

But despite this impressive trajectory – and the abrupt shift in public perception that has accompanied it – public-health researchers argue that there’s actually not a lot of scientific evidence backing up popular justifications for smoking bans. In the July issue of the journal Health Affairs, Columbia University’s Ronald Bayer and Kathleen E. Bachynski pick apart three of the most common arguments: Public bans reduce second-hand smoke that endangers non-smokers. They reduce cigarette-butt litter that’s toxic to the environment. And they take cigarettes out of the public view of impressionable children.

RELATED: Gallup: Americans Now Favor Banning Smoking From All Public Places

In reality, smoking bans probably do more to protect smokers themselves than the people around them. But it sounds less paternalistic to implement these policies in the name of shielding children. The short history of how these alternate arguments have become conventional wisdom reveals, Bayer and Bachynski write, “the complex relationships among scientific evidence, real-world health risks, and politics in the public policy process of denormalization.”

RELATED: Smoking Offers at Least One Health Benefit

In their own analysis of a national database maintained by the American Nonsmokers’ Rights Foundation, Bayer and Bachynski count 843 park bans and 150 beach bans imposed in the U.S. between 1993-2011. The largest share came from California, then Minnesota and New Jersey.

The scientific community, meanwhile, either hasn’t kept pace with research on the effects of such bans, or hasn’t found conclusive evidence of connections between second-hand smoke and some health impacts, like breast cancer. In fact, the American Lung Association, the American Heart Association and the American Cancer Society have all shied away from supporting such bans, in favor of public-health policies they believe would be more effective, like higher cigarette taxes, or tighter restrictions of tobacco ad campaigns.

In an interview with the researchers, one official with the American Lung Association put it this way: “I don’t think we should be making claims that are not supported by the data. If you try to tie it [banning smoking on beaches or in parks] to a health outcome, that’s where you get in trouble.”

The litter argument is more compelling, although it stretches farther than science has gone with the notion that cigarette butts do real damage to ecosystems (or to animals and children thought to frequently ingest them). As for the societal influence of smokers on children – research says they primarily take their cues from their parents, not strangers they see on the beach.

Of course, there’s a strong if politically unpalatable argument for enacting these policies: Over time, smoking bans have helped turn cigarette butts into something disgusting, and smokers themselves into pariahs. Smoking bans help change smoking norms. And polls suggest that the shift in public opinion has been swift. Gallup began asking people in 2001 if they supported making smoking illegal in public spaces. Then, only 39 percent of people did. As of 2011, for the first time, a majority did, at 59 percent.

“Denormalization,” Bayer and Bachynski write, is the sanitized term for policies that actively seek to stigmatize smoking. Depending on your view of the lengths we should go to cut down on the known health consequences of tobacco, you may be OK with this. But Bayer and Bachynski warn that it’s a “perilous strategy” to mask that goal with weak arguments about protecting the children from bad influence, or their parents from second-hand smoke.

Kennedy leads fight against pot legalization

Comment:  Ask Recovering Addicts, Not Ones Who Want to become an Addict
June 23rd 2013

Who would know more about the Dangers of Drugs and Alcohol and what it leads to, than recovering Addicts.

1: How many people have died from Drug  and Alcohol use every year?
2: How many kids will die every year from Drugs and Alcohol use?
3: And what is it going to take to get Drug and Alcohol use under control?
4: And to get enforcement tougher on Drug Use, Selling, and Trafficking, and making them pay for their own Treatment?
5: If it was so healthy as they want you to believe, then why have they spent so much money on drug treatment, if it is not a health problem? That money could have been used for real health problems.

They talk about Cigarettes being a health risk and what it will cost to treat illness from them, then you look at all the money that has been spent on drug treatment of Addicts, and then they have the gall to say that Marijuana (a drug) is not as bad as Cigarettes as a health hazard, this shows what Politicians will do to get Elected, whether it is legal or safe.

Kennedy leads fight against pot legalization

ROB HOTAKAINEN | Staff writer
Published June 23, 2013

WASHINGTON — Stung by momentum to legalize marijuana, opponents are fighting back with an unlikely leader: a recovering drug addict and liberal ex-congressman from Rhode Island named Patrick Kennedy, a member of the famous political clan.

“I cannot be silent, and I don’t imagine anyone else could be silent if they knew the facts as I know the facts — and all I’m trying to do is get those facts to the broader public,” said Kennedy, son of the late Massachusetts Democratic Sen. Edward M. Kennedy.

Spreading the word, Kennedy is traveling the country as chairman of Project SAM (Smart Approaches to Marijuana), which he formed in January and which now has affiliates in five states. Kennedy will announce new affiliates July 1 in San Diego and July 10 in Seattle.

No stranger to substance abuse, Kennedy long ago made public his battle with depression and alcohol and drug abuse, including an addiction to the pain reliever OxyContin. In 2006, he fell asleep behind the wheel and crashed his car into a barrier near the U.S. Capitol. His problems forced him to retire from the House of Representatives.

In an interview, Kennedy said he has smoked marijuana, but not much.

“In spite of the fact that I’m also an asthmatic, I did try and experiment with marijuana, but I quickly migrated to other drugs and alcohol,” he said.

He also once backed using marijuana as medicine. “I now stand corrected by the science,” said the 45-year-old Kennedy.

After making a mark in Congress promoting mental health, Kennedy said he wasn’t surprised by the legalization votes in Washington state and Colorado in 2012, or by polls showing increased acceptance of marijuana.

“They’re votes and they’re polls that reflect my early opinions and viewpoints, which were uneducated,” Kennedy said. “When you don’t have the facts and when you don’t have the public policy experts, then what you have is a vacuum where anecdote and opinion become public policy and reality. And that’s dangerous.”

Kennedy said he’s partly to blame for the rush to legalize because he didn’t speak out sooner. But he said he didn’t understand the big picture until he began working with the National Institute on Drug Abuse. Research now makes it clear that marijuana is a gateway drug that can induce psychosis and cause teens to lose IQ points they’ll never recover, creating “devastating health consequences,” he said.

Mason Tvert, spokesman for the pro-legalization Marijuana Policy Project, called Kennedy a hypocrite.

“His family made millions off the sale of alcohol, and we hope that he and his organization recognize that marijuana is far less harmful and that adults should not face penalties just for using it,” said Tvert, adding that Kennedy wants to force marijuana users into “education camps.”

Allen St. Pierre, executive director of the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws, another pro-legalization group, said Kennedy is relying on arguments from a past generation: “Most of the stuff he’s saying is about 20 to 30 years old.”

“Over a 40-year period, there have been dozens to hundreds of anti-marijuana groups — most of them don’t really last very long and they don’t have much success,” St. Pierre said. “We have to see in a year or two or three if Project SAM is going to be around, or is it just a flash in the pan?”

Kennedy said he understands the shots.

“We’re a truth-telling organization,” he said. “Their biggest threat is that people will find out the truth. So it’s not Patrick Kennedy they need to be worried about — it’s the truth.”

Kennedy called the legalization effort “a knee-jerk reaction” and said it will lead to more teens smoking pot, making more of them susceptible to addiction. And with marijuana use surpassing tobacco use among teens, Kennedy said they face a greater risk because of the rising potency of the drug.

“This isn’t your Woodstock weed,” he said. “This is genetically modified marijuana that is more closer to hashish. And its impact on brain development, especially if teenagers are using it, is profound and permanent.”

In February, Kennedy asked Attorney General Eric Holder to enforce federal law and not allow Colorado and Washington to sell and tax marijuana.

“I woke up after the last election and saw there’s kind of a wrinkle in the whole environment dealing with mental health and addiction. … It was hard to ignore that we’re moving in the opposite direction,” Kennedy said.

NSA Spying On Americans, Or is it a D N A Test Against Americans

Comment For Gullible Americans who believe in Government cover ups!
07-13-2013

Government Spying on their own people shows no respect for them and the laws, and there is some thing wrong. From what I can see with this is, that it is no different then the Government taking a D N A test from you and saying their won’t use it, but then use it to cover up a crime, and using you as the patsy, and if so you don’t have any recourse to prove that it was not you, once the Government does this you will never get out of it unless some one comes forward and tells the truth.

If you have not noticed, any Government will do any thing they want and get away with it, unless the American people start getting a back bone  and stop believing all the lies, and stand up against their corrupt ways and take control, and get rid of people who want to bring down our Country, if not, you will be under control of a Dictator Government very shortly, and never see a freedom again.

Associated Press: [In response, NSA spokeswoman Vines stressed that the agency is not  “unlawfully listening in on, or reading emails of, U.S. citizens.”]

They don’t care about the law that it is Illegal to wire tap without a court order, or monitor calls with out telling people that they are being recorded.

Associated Press: [NSA officials have said the agency chose the Bluffdale location over 37  others because electricity is cheaper here, and land more easily available. The  center will constantly use 65 megawatts of power — enough to power 33,000  houses.]

NSA being a Government Agency is also a polluter to produce power for this, and is wasting energy with taxpayers money, and who is going to pay the carbon tax on the waste of this power-hungry facility, and how long do you think the Electricity will remain cheap, wake up people and get your head out of Governments A  , and stop believing every thing they say.

If you are an American and believe our Government, then you are really Gullible in believing how trust worthy our Government really is today, if you have not noticed, they don’t care about you, only your money, just like the rich, that’s right they are also rich.

Utah home to NSA’s new mega-warehouse for data

Associated Press
By BRADY McCOMBS | Associated Press
June 13th 2013

http://news.yahoo.com/utah-home-nsas-mega-warehouse-data-080502716.html

(AP) — The nation’s new billion-dollar epicenter for fighting global cyberthreats sits just south of Salt Lake City, tucked away on a National Guard base at the foot of snow-capped mountains. The long, squat buildings span 1.5 million square feet, and are filled with super-powered computers designed to store massive amounts of information gathered secretly from phone calls and emails.

Two small, weathered signs in the sagebrush greet interlopers to this place with a stark warning: “Military reservation. No trespassing.” But there is no visible marker bearing the facility’s name and operator: The Utah Data Center, brought to you courtesy of the National Security Agency.

When it opens this fall, the facility will be the NSA’s largest data storage center in the U.S. Just don’t ask Utah officials, and certainly not the residents of tiny Bluffdale, just north of the new center, to tell you exactly what will go on inside. They either don’t know, or aren’t saying. And the NSA is famously tight-lipped.

“We know it’s a spy center. But who are they spying on?” said Connie Robbins, an upholstery shop owner who lives in Bluffdale, a community of 8,000 some 25 miles south of Salt Lake City that is known for its rodeo and annual Old West Days.

The dearth of information has perpetuated a mystery that has spawned dozens of theories and a spoof website that even includes a phony code name for the facility: “Bumblehive,” a play on Utah’s nickname of the “Beehive State.”

Last week’s revelation that the NSA is collecting millions of U.S. phone records along with digital communications stored by nine major Internet providers illustrates how aggressively personal information is being congregated and analyzed — and shines a brighter light on what will be going on in secret at the Utah facility, scheduled to open in October.

NSA officials say the center will play a key role in the nation’s effort to protect national security networks, and allow U.S. authorities to monitor for potential cyberthreats. In an email, agency spokeswoman Vanee Vines said that “many unfounded allegations have been made about the planned activities” of the center.

“NSA would like to confirm, on the record, that the Utah Data Center is a state-of-the-art data facility designed to support the U.S. intelligence community’s efforts to further strengthen and protect the nation. Its operations will be lawfully conducted in accordance with U.S. laws and policies,” Vines wrote.

She provided no additional details, however.

Richard “Dickie” George, who retired from the NSA in 2011 after 40 years, said the facility isn’t nearly as interesting or mysterious as some think. He calls it little more than a giant storeroom. Inundated with increasing volumes of secretly taped phone calls, intercepted emails and poached records of online purchases, the NSA needed a mega-warehouse to put it all, he said.

“It’s just a big file cabinet out in the Western area,” said George, once a senior technical leader at the agency. “There is no spying going on there.”

NSA agents elsewhere will comb through the data stored in Utah as the agency attempts to understand how terrorist groups operate and who plays what roles, George said. Emails, articles, websites and videos on the Internet may hold clues about such activities, he said.

James Bamford, the author of several books on the NSA who last year wrote about the Utah center in Wired magazine, asserts that the facility will serve as the central depository for everything the NSA intercepts, functioning as the agency’s “cloud.” Analysts at NSA headquarters at Fort Meade, Md., and other agency sites will be able to access the information by way of secure, fiber-optic cables, he said.

The mammoth center, which cost some $1.7 billion, will allow the agency to store more and, perhaps more importantly, keep information for much longer. Bamford theorizes the facility will be able to hold a so-called yottabyte of information, the largest measurement computer scientists have. A yottabyte is equal to 500 quintillion pages of text, said Bamford, who believes the Utah center will store those phone records NSA gathered from Verizon Communications.

“Every day you pick up a telephone and call your grandmother or call your sons and daughters and mothers and fathers and whoever, records of those calls will be all kept in there — and may be kept in there forever. Who knows?” Bamford said.

In response, NSA spokeswoman Vines stressed that the agency is not “unlawfully listening in on, or reading emails of, U.S. citizens.”

NSA officials have said the agency chose the Bluffdale location over 37 others because electricity is cheaper here, and land more easily available. The center will constantly use 65 megawatts of power — enough to power 33,000 houses.

The secrecy and security surrounding the facility are necessary because the center will store classified information, and the code-breaking and spying activities of its staff are also highly classified and a target for foreign spies, said a former U.S. intelligence official who spoke on condition of anonymity because the official was not authorized to discuss the program publicly.

The official said the Salt Lake City area is ideal because of a high concentration of Mormons who have served overseas missions and learned foreign languages. The NSA relies on non-English speakers to translate communications from around the world, and Utah provides a pool of employees that meets this need, said the official.

There is another facility in Utah where the NSA has analysts who translate intercepted communications, but there will be no such analysts at the Bluffdale center, the agency said. Most of the 150 to 200 workers instead will be technicians charged with keeping the power on and the computers chilled and working.

George said the agency probably doesn’t need to be as hyper-secretive as it is but said such precautions are meant to avoid letting slip any insight that could tip off terrorist organizations and those who may wish harm upon the United States.

“It’s just not in your best interest to be talking about what you are doing,” he said.

It’s that air of uncertainty that has unnerved residents who live and work near the facility, located on the Camp Williams National Guard base. Some worry the center could become a target of terrorists if it holds so much valuable information.

“Say they were collecting data somebody didn’t want, say a terrorist,” said Shannon Neilson, a convenience store manager whose house is just miles from the center. “What if that’s a target for a plane hitting that, destroying everything?”

Late last month, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the center to mark work being finished on the exterior. The celebration, however, was closed to the public — an exclusive, invitation-only gathering that barred even the mayor of Bluffdale. The NSA also rejected a request by city officials to take a group of visiting Utah mayors on a bus tour of the outside of the facility. The agency said all tours — even of the exterior — are prohibited.

At the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, educators are creating a certificate program that they hope will produce students ready to work at big data centers such as the Bluffdale facility. The NSA helped reviewed the curriculum, offering suggestions, and plans to offer internships to students, said Valerio Pascucci, director of the Center for Extreme Data, Management, Analysis and Visualization.

The program is designed primarily for undergraduate students studying mechanical or electrical engineering and computer science. So far, the Utah Data Center has yet to post jobs, Valerio said. “We are building a new expertise that obviously is going to be in growing demand in the future,” he said.

Bluffdale City Manager Mark Reid said he hopes the NSA center serves as a magnet for other, privately run data centers to the area. Unlike the NSA facility, those would be required to pay property taxes. Reid will travel to a data center conference in Washington, D.C., this month to promote Utah’s cheap power and ideal workforce. But if attendees ask about the new NSA facility, he’ll be short on answers.

“I know very little,” Reid said. “We just deliver the water.”

All Protesting Organizations Hurt the Rights of Free American

Comment By Bob L.
o6-04-2013

These organizations say thru are for protecting the people, but they are no more than a group of people who are taking money from taxes, to promote violence and to change the Constitution to help them selves.

In this article I read a lot of comments, and there was a lot of sense made in what was said, but it is a shame that this is made for the good of all Americans, not just a minority of people.

Are people so ignorant now that they can not see that our Government, Democrats, Republicans, Independence, and any organizations that want to get into Government, they are not looking out for the people, they are only looking out for them selves to get the free perks that they give them selves.

You can blame the GOP all you want, but when it comes down to it, the Democrats are also in it up to their necks, so put the blame where it lies, GOVERNMENT, they are the case of all the problems in this Country, if you don’t believe it look back in to history and see how this all came about.

It was the rich that started slavery, it was the Government who promoted it, it was not just one group of politicians, it was all of them, Even the Presidents.

There is a lot of articles on Slavery, and it was not just the blacks, it was Native Americans, it was Whites, as well as Blacks, and of today it is still going on today with all, if you are not in the two hundred thousand percent income you are classified a slave by all above.

Every thing is always the GOP, this shows just how little Americans pay to the news, they seem to listen and believe the news media that is tied to families and relatives working in the White House, in other words this is called a Conflict of Interest.

About 140 arrested in NC during NAACP protest

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — About 140 people have been arrested during the latest weekly demonstration led by the North Carolina chapter of the NAACP against the state’s Republican-led General Assembly.

Police estimate that roughly 1,000 people attended a rally late Monday afternoon behind the Legislative Building. Hundreds later entered the building, with those intending to get arrested wearing green wrist bands.

Those arrested were taken away in plastic bindings. They bring the total arrested in the weekly demonstrations to about 300. The rallies have taken place nearly every Monday since April.

Hundreds more waited outside to cheer on those arrested as they were transported to a detention facility.

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People has spearheaded demonstrations to protest cuts to social programs, changes to voting laws and other issues championed by the GOP.

Developer guilty of illegal contributions to Reid

Associated Press
By SCOTT SONNER | Associated Press
05-29-2013

RENO, Nev. (AP) — A Nevada powerbroker who headed a billion-dollar real estate company and pulled the strings of state politics as a prominent lobbyist for more than a decade was convicted Wednesday of making illegal campaign contributions to U.S. Sen. Harry Reid.

Harvey Whittemore, 59, could face up to 15 years in prison and hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines after a federal jury returned guilty verdicts on three counts tied to nearly $150,000 illegally funneled to Reid’s re-election campaign in 2007.

Later in the day, U.S. District Judge Larry Hicks declared a mistrial on a count of lying to the FBI after jurors said they were deadlocked on that charge.

Whittemore stood with his arms behind his back and shook his head slightly after the verdicts were read. He was convicted of making excessive campaign contributions, making contributions in the name of another and causing a false statement to be made to the Federal Election Commission.

Each count carries a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. The judge set sentencing for Sept. 23.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Steven Myhre said prosecutors will review the case before deciding whether to refile the charge of lying to the FBI during a February 2012 interview.

Dominic Gentile, Whittemore’s lead defense counsel, said the convictions will be appealed to the 9th U.S. Circuit of Appeals. He said a case pending before the U.S. Supreme Court touches on similar issues related to the constitutionality of federal limits on campaign contributions.

Among other things, Gentile said the defense will challenge Hicks’ refusal to allow the defense to reference an Alabama case against the Federal Election Commission.

“His conduct was protected by the First Amendment,” Gentile told reporters at a news conference with Whittemore and his wife, Annette, shortly after leaving court.

Whittemore said he would reserve immediate comment on his conviction because of the emotional toll the two-week trial has taken on his family.

“My family and I have been through quite a bit,” he said.

He said he will hold a news conference when all appeals are resolved to give the “complete and true story about who was behind this and how it got started.”

Annette Whittemore said the couple is fortunate to have such a close, “strong-willed” family to support them.

“Harvey said throughout the trial the one thing they can’t take away is our family and friends,” she said.

Prosecutors said Whittemore gave money to family members and employees in 2007 to make contributions he had promised to Reid while concealing himself as the true source to skirt campaign finance laws.

Defense attorneys argued Whittemore broke no laws by giving $5,000 checks as gifts to family members and as gifts or bonuses to 29 employees and their spouses, who then each wrote checks for the maximum allowable $4,600 to the Senate majority leader’s campaign fund, Friends of Harry Reid.

Myrhe said he hopes the verdicts send a strong message that U.S. campaign finance violations are serious offenses that will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

“These laws exist to protect the election process from undue influence and to provide transparency to the voting public,” he told reporters outside the courthouse.

Assistant U.S. Attorney General Mythili Raman said Whittemore used “straw donors” to evade federal contribution limits.

“The cornerstones of our campaign finance laws are contribution limits and transparency, and Mr. Whittemore’s crime was designed to undermine both,” Mythili said in a statement from Washington.

Prosecutors said in closing arguments Tuesday that Whittemore had been the “king of the hill” in Nevada political circles, an insider who had worked his way onto the short list of many U.S. senators and representatives as someone to call when they needed to quickly find donors.

Whittemore once hosted an event for Sen. John Edwards, then a Democratic presidential hopeful, and a fundraiser at Reid’s request for then-Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle. He also helped arrange a reception attended by President Clinton during an environmental summit at Lake Tahoe.

“When he made these contributions, he was the ultimate insider,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Olshan said during his closing argument. “He was making millions of dollars and getting personal thank-you notes from the most prominent politicians in the country.”

Reid had no comment on the verdicts, said Kristen Orthman, a spokeswoman for the senator.

Reid was not accused of any wrongdoing. He has said he was unaware of any potential problems with the money he received.

“I received $25 million. He raised $150,000,” Reid told the Las Vegas Sun earlier this week. “I had money coming in from other places.”

Myhre told jurors Whittemore was driven solely by greed — “not to get more money but greed in the sense of more power.”

“It’s about trying to be on the short list that senators and congressmen call when they need money,” he said. “That’s why he did it.”

Myhre said after the verdicts that he couldn’t comment on why the prosecution chose not to call Reid as a witness, or whether the case involving Whittemore has been completely closed.

Ore. teen accused of planning to attack school

Associated Press By STEVEN DUBOIS | Associated Press
05-25-2013

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — An Oregon high school student is being charged with attempted murder after the authorities say he planned to attack his high school with bombs.

The student, 17-year-old Grant Acord, was taken to a juvenile jail Thursday night after police received a tip that the youth was making a bomb to blow up West Albany High School.

Benton County District Attorney John Haroldson said late Saturday that authorities found six bombs in a secret compartment in the boy’s bedroom.

Haroldson said Acord had written plans and checklists, and his intent was “forged and inspired by the model of the Columbine shootings.”

Haroldson said the teen is being charged as an adult.

Police found no bombs during a search of West Albany High, which about 75 miles south of Portland.

College Sticker Shock, WHY?

Comment by Bob L.
05-20-2013

Sticker Shock for colleges? Ask the GREEDY Professors and Administrators.

I read an article here the other day and it made the comment that they have to raise them to keep their Professors, start there, if you want to stop it, boycott these Colleges, plus you could probably get a better Education by going to local Community college.

Is it that by going to a Big Name College, you can Party and walk around with your nose up in the air Bragging that you went to Blah Blah  College and not really getting the Education that you deserve, which is, go to a party School, or a go to a  less expensive College and get an Education.

As you read this article you will see a lot of double talk to why the cost is so high, basically it all stems to GREED, Public Schools are having the same problem.

Sticker shock: New college graduates, here is why your education cost so much money

By Liz Goodwin, Yahoo! News The Lookout
05-20-2013

When high school senior Jenny Bonilla got her college acceptance letter in March, she felt shock and heartbreak rather than joy. That’s because the letter from Goucher College, a private liberal arts school in Baltimore, also brought news that she would owe an unaffordable $20,000 a year in tuition and board, even with a scholarship the college was offering.

Bonilla had been in the running for a full ride to Goucher but eventually lost out because her parents’ combined income of $57,000 a year was deemed too high.

“That was heartbreaking,” she said.

Bonilla’s experience is all too familiar to many students and their parents contemplating college, as higher education price increases have far outpaced the growth in middle-class wages over the past three decades.

The average tuition and fees at a public, four-year university rose to $8,655 in 2012-13, not counting the costs of room and board, according to the College Board. That’s 250 percent more than it would have cost in 1982, when a year of college would have set the average student back just $2,423 in today’s dollars.

The tuition at private colleges has increased at a slightly lower rate over the same period: the average four-year private institution costs $29,056, not counting room and board. It would have cost $10,901 in 2012 dollars back in 1982.

The pricey degree comes with big returns, on average: College educated workers earned 79 percent more than high-school educated workers in 2012, and were much less likely to be unemployed.

The pain of the price hikes has been partially offset by an increase in federal grants and tax breaks for college, as well as by private schools offering deeply discounted tuition rates to lower-income students. But even with that help, some students like Bonilla are finding themselves locked out of the system.

Why is college so much more expensive now than it was 30 years ago? Economists fall into two main schools of thought in explaining the trend.

One theory, referred to as “Bowen’s Rule,” says that the decisions made by many colleges and universities—such as how many administrators to hire and how to spend its cash—primarily drive the cost.

A competing theory, called “Baumol’s cost disease,” posits that higher education is expensive because of outside macroeconomic factors that affect other businesses, like the cost of hiring highly educated workers.

In other words, it’s either the colleges’ fault, or it isn’t.

In their book, “Why Does College Cost So Much?” Robert Archibald and David Feldman, economists at The College of William & Mary, are firmly in the Baumol camp. They argue that a college’s hefty price tag isn’t actually surprising at all, given that it depends on the performance of its workforce—highly educated professors and teachers who provide a face-to-face service, not a material good.

Larger economic trends have jacked up the salaries of highly educated workers across the board in recent decades, while the cost of face-to-face services has also remained high, since technological advances do not necessarily make these services cheaper.

Feldman used the example of the cost of a haircut, which has also outpaced inflation in the past 30 years.

While technology has made factories vastly more efficient at producing goods for less money, technological advances have not been able to make the time a haircut takes shorter or replace the skilled person who has to give the haircut. College is like a haircut on steroids, since the barbers have PhDs.

“Higher education is an industry where there’s not a whole lot of productivity growth and not a whole of scope for productivity growth,” Feldman said.

The vast majority of most colleges’ budgets go to personnel, and that cost is unlikely to come down any time soon.

Benjamin Ginsburg, a political science professor at John Hopkins University, takes the Bowen view.

In his book, “The Fall of the Faculty: The Rise of the All-Administrative University and Why It Matters,” Ginsburg argues that a significant increase in administrative employees is in part responsible for college’s runaway pricing.

He writes that between 1975 and 2005, the faculty to student ratio has remained fairly constant at universities, while the student-to-professional staffer (such as an admissions officer) ratio increased from one to 50 to 1 to 24.

“As colleges and universities have had more money to spend, they have not chosen to spend it on expanding their instructional resources—that is, on paying faculty,” Ginsburg writes. “They have chosen, instead, to enhance their administrative and staff resources.”

Feldman discounts this argument. He points out that students demand a broader bundle of services from college now than they did 50 years ago, and that the price reflects that. Students want staffers to plan student life activities, career counselors, fancy dorms, nice gyms and up to date technology.

The economy as a whole, not just higher education, has also shifted to include more administrative positions in the past decades, he argues.

Some argue that colleges have had no choice but to hire more administrative staff, in part because they are so thoroughly regulated by both state and federal governments. Colleges are required to report to the government all gifts accepted from foreign governments, supply information about the salaries of coaches, and prove they commemorated Constitution Day every September 17, among other rules. Complying with the regulations requires staff.

“Externally imposed regulations increase the cost of doing business and that cost is passed on to consumers,” Terry Hartle, one of the chief lobbyists for the higher education industry, said.

State budget woes have also hiked the cost of many colleges. Sandy Baum, an economist and independent policy analyst for the College Board, says the price increases at public institutions have been driven by declining support from states, which have cut higher education in order to balance their budgets.

“It’s not actually that the colleges are spending more money on the students, it’s that they’re getting … much less money per student from the state government,” Baum said.

That means students aren’t necessarily getting more for their money, especially at public institutions.

Advances in technology might help colleges cut costs in the future, either by allowing them to have fewer in-person classes as more people take classes online or by streamlining some library costs, among other possibilities. But higher education experts say there’s no silver bullet.

“Colleges are looking at how to save money and they need to look harder because it’s just so expensive,” said Baum. She mentioned increasing technology, streamlining government regulations and cutting back on administrators as some possible things to help costs. “There’s no miracles there,” she said.

Jenny Bonilla didn’t have time to wait for a miracle. Bonilla’s father lost his job just days after she received her letter from Goucher, reducing the family’s annual income to $40,000.

Bonilla’s parents didn’t want her to take on $60,000 in debt, and knew they couldn’t come up with the money to help her on their own. They decided she should enroll in nearby Prince George Community College for two years and then try to transfer to a four-year public school from there.

“I applied to so many schools and then for me to end up at community college is kind of devastating,” Bonilla says.

Dictator and Chief Looking for Permanent Position In Whitehouse

Comment: Dictator Coming Your Way
04-03-2013

If the American people don’t stop this money wasting President, you will never get rid of him. And if he gets the Democrats back in control, you might just as well kiss the U.S. Constitution and your freedom good-by, because he will have full control of this Country, it will be just like Hitler, and Castro where his followers will turn any one in for trying to stand up against him, and THAT could EVEN be your NEIGHBOR.

Look at every one who has tried to run against or has said some thing that he does not like, he or some one else does what ever they can to turn people against them, even start a rumor, he does not want any one to get in his way.

Here is a good example, the News Media does what ever he wants, have you heard any thing about all the taxes coming your way that the news media is not talking about, you can go on to what is not being said that you should know, it is just like the countries where the news is Censored.

Here is a little some thing that you are paying for every time one of his three planes leave the ground.    One Hundred Eighty Thousand Dollars an Hour  Air Force One and Two, then add his Entourage of more planes, Lady Obama One, and Biden One, and then you have to add the other private Government planes that are always on the move. But he wants the American people to tighten their belts and give to the poor around the world (not here), but the problem is, the American workers are now the poor. Like they say the RICH get Richer and the POOR get Poorer.

Obama launches fund-raising blitz to help Democrats in Congress

By Steve Holland | Reuters
04-03-2013

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – President Barack Obama will launch a fund-raising drive for the 2014 U.S. mid-term elections on Wednesday with addresses to deep-pocketed donors in California, hoping the Democratic Party can defy the odds and gain congressional seats in the polls.

The party in power in the White House usually loses seats in election years in which the presidency is not up for grabs. This means Democrats have their work cut out for them in trying to win a majority in the Republican-controlled House of Representatives and add to their majority in the Senate.

“An off-year is always tough for the party in power,” said Democratic strategist Bud Jackson. “But never say never, and I think it’s possible that you could swing some seats. At the very least you make the attempted grab.”

The president has an interest in making the effort, because without a significant change in the make-up of Congress, he faces possible paralysis for many of the initiatives laid out in his inaugural address and State of the Union speech.

His second term, won decisively in the election last November over Republican Mitt Romney, has opened with a repeat of the partisan tensions that marked his first term and with an unrelenting stalemate over taxes and spending.

A bid to tighten gun regulations, which Obama will address at a stop in Denver on Wednesday, is in danger as pro-gun groups pressure lawmakers who for decades have been reluctant to take on the powerful gun lobby. Only an immigration overhaul looks promising as Republicans smarting over Hispanic vote losses in 2012 need a victory on it as much as Obama does.

This does not mean Obama is abandoning his priorities until after the mid-terms. His team in general sees the need for action as soon as possible before the country’s attention turns to the 2014 and 2016 elections.

OBAMA MAY TEMPER MESSAGE

As a result, Obama may offer a more restrained message when he speaks at fund-raising events in San Francisco, talking up his party’s agenda without antagonizing political opponents.

Some Republican senators told Obama when he visited Capitol Hill in March that it did not help their fiscal negotiations with him when he traveled around the country criticizing them.

Obama aides said Obama can both support his own party’s campaign apparatus while still seeking compromise with Republicans.

“There’s plenty of work to do here in Washington D.C. before we turn our attention to the midterm elections,” said White House deputy press secretary Josh Earnest.

Obama’s San Francisco stop will kick off 14 events he intends to stage this year to raise money for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee, its Senate counterpart or the Democratic National Committee. The party is still trying to pay off its debts from the last election.

In San Francisco, Obama has two evening events planned to help House Democratic campaigns. California Democratic Representative Nancy Pelosi, the top House Democrat who was dethroned as speaker in 2010, is expected to attend.

Democrats need to win 17 seats in 2014 to win control of the House.

“The confidence that the president is showing by dedicating his efforts to our efforts is a shot in the arm for House Democrats,” said Jesse Ferguson, spokesman for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.

The first event – a cocktail reception priced at $5,000 a person – is at the home of billionaire former asset manager Tom Steyer and his wife, Kat Taylor. After that, a $32,500-per-person dinner will be held at the home of billionaires Ann and Gordon Getty.

The next day Obama will attend two DNC fundraisers.

Obama’s trip is all the more important because of the need to pay off debt hanging over party organizations since the 2012 election. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee owed $10.8 million as of the end of February, according to Federal Election Committee disclosure forms, and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee owed $15 million.

Republicans note that Obama’s electoral sway is not so powerful when his name is not on the ballot. Democrats lost 63 seats and control of the House in 2010 midterms, as well as six Senate seats.

“There’s something to his appeal when he’s on the ballot. I’m not sure they can deliver the same vote when he’s not,” said Republican strategist Charlie Black.

Senate narrowly passes first budget in four years

Comment For:  Senate narrowly passes first budget in four years
03-23-2013

How about that the Senate finally got off their butts and finally passed a budget in four years, Now Wait a Minute, they did not do it for the Country, they did it for them selves, because of elections coming up in 2014 and are afraid for their job, this shows that they don’t care about this Country one red cent, and shows that they only got elected for the money, not the people who elected them.

Did these people ever go to School? I can not see how you can pay off your debt by spending more money, I guess what I learned in school was just waisted time when I could have continued working full-time then go to school, but what I learned in school was that if you spent more than you make, you have to pay it back or you go in to debt, but I guess that was wrong according to the way our Government looks at how debt works, lets see if you, lets say you make $10.00 dollars an hour and spend $20.00 dollars of that $10.00 dollars, over time you won’t have a debt to pay back?, from the way I see it, this is how the Government thinks, 2+2= 40 Two Dollars in taxes, put that Two Dollars in to the General Fund means Forty Dollars can be spent, that is Government Math. (Lack of, or over Education)

Every time Government talks about Entitlements they go against the people who will get hurt the most, but I have not seen or heard about the Entitlements that the Government and other organisations receives every year, they always go after the ones that will get hurt the most so they will pass more taxes so they can spend more on trash, junk, or other Countries, but not in this Country where it is needed.

A Canadian said it right in the 70’s, http://youtu.be/oJ_okAgAUGE     and Americans have let it go on, they have become lazy, and not caring about the Country they live in (greed has taken control), they have let the Government take over their lives and every thing they do, they have not stood up against Government when they are told that their vote does not count, and the same thing when the Courts side with what Government wants, and let them get away with it, it is time that Americans get a Back Bone and stand up to the Government, Environmentalist, Special Interest Groups, and Religion Haters, and take OUR Country back, other wise, you get what you ask for, NOTHING,  but A Corrupt out of control Dictator Government.

Senate narrowly passes first budget in four years

By David Lawder | Reuters
03-23-2013

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – The Senate on Saturday narrowly passed its first federal budget in four years, a move that will usher in a relative lull in Washington’s fiscal wars until an anticipated summer showdown over raising the debt ceiling.

The budget plan was passed by a 50-49 vote in the Democratic-controlled chamber. Four Democratic senators facing tough re-election campaigns in 2014 joined all the Senate Republicans in opposing the measure, which seeks to raise nearly $1 trillion in new tax revenues by closing some tax breaks for the wealthy.

The Senate budget, which reflects Democratic priorities of boosting near-term job growth and preserving social safety net programs, will square off in coming months against a Republican-focused budget passed by the Republican-dominated House of Representatives.

Neither of the non-binding blueprints has a chance of passage in the opposing chamber, leaving Congress no closer to resolving deep differences over how to shrink U.S. deficits and grow the economy. But they give each party a platform from which to tout their respective fiscal visions.

The Democrats’ plan from Senate Budget Committee Chairman Patty Murray aims to reduce deficits by $1.85 trillion over 10 years through an equal mix of tax increases and spending cuts.

The Republican plan from House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan seeks $4.6 trillion in savings over the same period without raising new taxes. It aims to reach a small surplus by 2023 through deep cuts to health care and social programs that aid the poor.

Murray said after the vote that she would try to work with Ryan on a path toward compromise.

“While it is clear that the policies, values, and priorities of the Senate budget are very different than those articulated in the House budget, I know the American people are expecting us to work together to end the gridlock and find common ground, and I plan to continue doing exactly that.”

SHUTDOWN THREAT

Passage of a stop-gap government funding measure on Thursday lowered the temperature in the budget debate by eliminating the threat of a government shutdown next week.

“We’re going to get a breather here. Congress will let things cool off a bit and there’ll be other issues that come to the forefront in the spring,” said Greg Valliere, chief political strategist at Potomac Research Group, a firm that advises institutional investors on Washington politics.

These issues include legislation on gun control, immigration reform and initial work on simplifying the tax code, which is particularly important to Republicans.

Joining Republicans in opposing the Democratic budget were Democratic senators from conservative-leaning states: Max Baucus of Montana, Mark Begich of Alaska, Kay Hagan of North Carolina and Mark Pryor of Arkansas. Voting for a budget that raises tax revenues could increase their vulnerability in congressional elections next year and put Democrats’ thin majority at risk.

In the lead-up to the Senate vote early on Saturday morning, the body considered more than 100 largely symbolic, non-binding amendments to the budget aimed at scoring political points and staking out positions.

Among notable amendments, the Senate signaled strong support for allowing states more authority to collect sales taxes on Internet purchases [ID:nL1N0CEERE], for approval of the controversial Canada-to-Texas Keystone XL oil pipeline [ID:nL1N0CEE57] and for repealing a tax on medical devices imposed by President Barack Obama’s health care reform law.

The Senate also voted 99-0 to end policies that subsidized large banks considered “too big to fail” but came out against imposing taxes on industrial carbon emissions.

Ryan’s plan aims to reach a small surplus with no tax increases by 2023 through deep cuts to social safety net programs. This enables Republicans to claim that they are more responsible by balancing the budget.

“The House budget changes our debt course, while the Senate budget does not,” said Senator Jeff Sessions, the top Republican on the Senate Budget Committee.

BATTLE OVER “BALANCE”

In a taste of the ideological debates to come, Murray claimed that the Senate budget was more “balanced” because it emphasized job growth and offered an equal amount of revenue increases and spending cuts.

The Senate had not passed a budget resolution since 2009 because of fiscal policy disputes with House Republicans that forced Congress to turn to numerous stop-gap spending measures to avoid government shutdowns.

To protect their thin Senate majority, Democrats avoided exposing their members to potentially damaging votes to raise taxes ahead of 2012 elections, arguing that a 2011 budget deal set spending levels for several years and made the non-binding budget legislation unnecessary.

But this year, under the February debt limit increase law, members of both the House and Senate faced pay suspensions if their chamber had failed to pass a budget by April 15.

Although lawmakers in both parties have called for a return to normal budgeting procedures after years of stop-gap spending bills and high-pressure deadlines, there is little chance that they can work out differences between the two budgets.

“The idea of conferencing them is kind of a joke. You would expect that if there were a chance of success, they wouldn’t have planted flags on completely different planets,” said Sean West, U.S. policy director at Eurasia Group, a political risk consultancy.

Ultimately, it may take another 11th-hour deal between Obama and congressional Republicans to set a fiscal path forward as part of a deal to raise the debt ceiling, he said. The Treasury is expected to exhaust its borrowing capacity around late July or early August.

In 2011, a similar fight over the debt limit shook financial markets and cost the United States its top-tier credit rating.

Poor News Coverage Cancels News Papers

Comment:   About Poor Media
03-19-2013

Back Page News

Back Page News

It is amazing how the news media can put out a paper that resembles a rag and call it a news, and then have the nerve to expect people to continually pay for it, so what do they do is put it on the internet and then expect you to pay TEN Dollars a month for it when you only find an article once or twice a month that informs you about what your State or Federal Government is doing, the rest of the time they are printing stories about Baby Bumps, some person winning an award for some stupid thing, just like all these Actors who spend more time in front of some red blanket or walking on one.

This is fine if you only want to see Sports Scores, who is doing what in Sports, or some celebrity having too much pain while having a baby, or who in the world is getting a divorce, or who is getting married after getting that divorce, that is not NEWS that is RAG talk and should not even be published, if that is all you are interested in then print only that and put in on a stand at the local super market not on the door step of some ones home, or on the computer, leave that to the Rags, it is time that the news media starts doing what they are suppose to do, and that is tell the truth on what is going on in this Country, and don’t cover up wrong doings and real news.

In the mean time what people should be informed about is never published until it becomes a law, so why should any one want to buy a news paper that is not much better than these rags in the super markets, the media always puts the most important news in the grave yard section or in the adds, and just think they have the nerve to charge you an outragous price for it.

So if you want to know about some thing that your Stare or Federal Government is doing just wait until it is passed then the media will let you know, that a politician was lying to get in to office or they passed a bill that will cost you money, then the news will let you see it on the front page.

The people can not fight any thing if they don’t know what is going on, but I think that is what all Government Agencies want and that is keeping the people miss informed, so this thing they call a news paper is nothing but an arm of the Government, you do what they want 11950035921415595136nazi_historic_svg_thumbor they will take your licence away, this happens under a Dictator run Government.

Stupid Some Times More Stupid Then Other Times

Comment: I can see discrimination or profilling coming
03-10-2013

I can agree but I can disagree with what Government is trying to do, what if you have a good Teacher in a school with a good showing and the Principal does not like that Teacher because they do not do what the Principal wants, or they might want one of their good bodies there, then what do you have, than you have what is going on now, poor standard of Education, and then you have more strikes which is not good for the students THAT THESE teachers took the oath to teach, not strike, but they are teaching these kids it is alright to break the law to get what you want.

From what I have seen in the last Twenty years is that these Teachers are more worried about them selves then they are for the Students that they are there to teach, just look at the signs that they were carrying, it did not say NO STUDENT LEFT BEHIND, it said NO TEACHER LEFT BEHIND, now how much education was done at that time while they were still getting paid, if they go on strike no pay or back pay from going on strike, give them ZERO income for no education, like the old saying NO TICKY NO WASHY period, you don’t work you don’t get paid.

Peacemaker in Tacoma teachers strike deal could be doomed

Melissa Santos; Staff writer
Published: March 9, 2013

Barely 18 months after teachers in Tacoma went on strike over their district’s proposal to give principals more authority over teacher placement, the Legislature is poised to derail the plan that helped make peace between the union and school system.

Senate Bill 5242, which passed out of the Senate Wednesday on a 27-22 vote, would give principals veto authority over teacher reassignments.

Districts often move teachers between schools based on staffing needs, which are determined by student enrollment.

Under the bill that passed the Senate last Wednesday, principals and teachers would have to come to a “mutual agreement” about a teacher’s placement at a given school — otherwise, the teacher could be put on temporary assignment by the district, and potentially fired after eight months if he or she can’t find a permanent spot.

The bill would apply to all contracts entered into after Aug. 1 of this year. That means the three-year contract the district and the Tacoma Education Association hammered out in 2011 would be allowed to stand through its expiration date of August 2014.

But after that, any new contracts between the district and the union would be have to stripped of language that allows reassignments to be decided by a three-member committee of a principal and two teachers, said John Prosser, a union member who served on a committee to develop Tacoma’s new teacher displacement policy.

Prosser wrote a letter to the Senate Early Learning and K-12 Education Committee saying that Senate Bill 5242 “will undo the monumental work” Tacoma just completed.

“We’re in that healing phase,” Prosser said Friday. “Anything that undoes that process is just going to open up old wounds. This is the reason we went on strike.”

Republican state Sen. Steve Litzow, who chairs the Senate Early Learning & K-12 Education Committee, said the logic behind Senate Bill 5242 is that “the principal knows what’s best for his school.” The Mercer Island lawmaker introduced the legislation.

“It’s not about good or bad teachers,” Litzow said on the Senate floor. “It’s about the kind of teacher the principal believes he needs in his school to get the best out of his students.”

As a condition of the fall 2011 contract, Prosser and eight other committee members worked between November 2011 and June 2012 to develop the new rules in Tacoma, which the district just put into effect this year.

Dan Voelpel, spokesman for Tacoma Public Schools, said that district officials don’t want to see their newly developed process change, either.

“We love it,” Voelpel said Wednesday. “We wouldn’t be in favor of having any prescriptive changes.”

The state teachers union opposes the bill, as do the lobbying arms of the state principals association and the state school administrators association. Education reform groups, including Stand for Children, support the proposal.

“Mutual consent policies create strong matches between teachers and schools, which benefits teachers, schools and students,” said Anne Luce of Partnership for Learning, the education foundation of the Washington Roundtable.

Adrienne Dale, the president of the Tacoma Education Association, said that her union plans to fight the bill in the state House, which has a Democratic majority that is more likely to try to block its passage.

Should those efforts fail and the measure pass into law, Dale said that it would be “going backward.”

“We are allowed to bargain our contract language, and that’s one of our basic rights,” Dale said. “I would hate to see that disappear.”

Elderly Woman Dies with out Given CPR

Comment For People who like Obamacare
03-04-2013

Here is a case of I think where Obamacare has come into play, I might be wrong but I have never seen a nurse refuse an emergency, except before the law allowing then to be able to help, before that they would get sued if they stopped to help.

Another thing there could be a lot more behind what they are not telling in the news, not all nurses are the same and could not know the procedures of an elderly person, that was mentioned in the news report.

My self I believe this could have a lot to do with Obamacare and what we do not know what the full extent of what is in it, there could be things in it that would open you up for a law suit if you do any thing, we do not know what all is in Obamacare, if you have not noticed we are still learning of what it is, and how much it is going to cost us in the future.

I don’t think it was right but we don’t know all the facts about it, we are only hearing what they want us to know.

I think it is about time for this administration to put the full Obamacare on the table now so the American people know what they are looking at, and stop putting it out a piece at a time.

Elderly Woman Dies After Nurse Refuses to Give Her CPR

By Alyssa Newcomb | ABC News
03-03-2013

A 911 dispatcher pleaded with a nurse at a Bakersfield, Calif., senior living facility to save the life of an elderly woman by giving her CPR, but the nurse said policy did not allow her to, according to a newly released audiotape of the call.

“Is there anybody there that’s willing to help this lady and not let her die?” the dispatcher asked in a recording of the 911 call released by the Bakersfield Fire Department.

“Not at this time,” the nurse said.

The incident unfolded on Tuesday when 87-year-old Lorraine Bayless collapsed at Glenwood Gardens, a senior living facility in Bakersfield.

In the seven-minute, 16-second recording, the nurse told the dispatcher it was against the facility’s policy for employees to perform CPR on residents.

With every passing second, Bayless’ chances of survival were diminishing. The dispatcher’s tone turned desperate.

“Anybody there can do CPR. Give them the phone please. I understand if your facility is not willing to do that. Give the phone to that passerby,” the dispatcher said. “This woman is not breathing enough. She is going to die if we don’t get this started.”

After several minutes, an ambulance arrived and took Bayless to Mercy Southwest Hospital, where she died.

Glenwood Gardens released a statement confirming its policy prohibiting employees from performing CPR.

“In the event of a health emergency at this independent living community, our practice is to immediately call emergency medical personnel for assistance and to wait with the individual needing attention until such personnel arrives. That is the protocol we followed,” the statement said.

Despite protocol being followed, the nursing home said it would launch an internal investigation into the matter.

Maker’s Mark Won’t Cut Alcohol Content

By ABC News ABC News Blogs
02-17-2013

Maker’s Mark drew a storm of complaints when the venerable bourbon distiller announced this week it would be diluting its whisky due to anticipated supply shortages, but today it announced it is scrapping the plan.

“While we thought we were doing what’s right, this is your brand – and you told us in large numbers to change our decision,” the company said in a statement released today. “You spoke. We listened. And we’re sincerely sorry we let you down.”

Effective immediately, the company said, it was reversing its decision to lower the alcohol content of Maker’s Mark, and would resume production at 45 percent alcohol by volume.

“The unanticipated dramatic growth rate of Maker’s Mark is a good problem to have, and we appreciate some of you telling us you’d even put up with occasional shortages,” said the statement, signed by COO Rob Samuels and chairman emeritus Bill Samuels Jr. “We promise we’ll deal with them as best we can, as we work to expand capacity at the distillery.”

The response came after angry Maker’s Mark lovers took to Twitter to complain about the company lowering the alcohol content.

“Hey, @MakersMark Raise prices if you must, but don’t mess with success! Ever heard of New Coke? #bourbon” wrote one Twitter user.

Maker’s Mark had said it was forced to make the decision to decreasing the proof of its whisky from 90 proof to 84 proof because of “unforeseen demand.” Bill Samuels Jr. had said that the brand wanted to keep its prices competitive.

“While not every part of the country has seen shortages yet, many have, and the demand is continuing to grow at a pace we’ve never before experienced. While we are investing today to expand capacity for the future, by producing 42 percent ABV Maker’s Mark we’ll be able to better meet our ongoing supply issues without compromising the taste,” he said in a statement.

The one-brand company doesn’t purchase bourbon from other distillers, making forecasting difficult. The age range of the whiskey, five years nine months to seven years, had allowed the brand to keep ahead of market shortages in the past.

The owners said they had tested the watered-down bourbon themselves and validated their own findings with consumer research. Both agreed that “there’s no difference in the taste,” Samuels said.

Moderate Drinking Linked to Increased Cancer Risk

Comment For Ignorance and Brain Washing
02-16-2013

I have always contended from the study of health that What youdrunk3 Eat and What you Drink and what you put IN or ON your body, has a lot to do with cancer, and how many time you come down sick each year, call me old fashion but I payed attention to health in school, just not English and Spelling.

Every time some one cones up with a study, it is not always to the good, but it is to help some one profit, it does not matter if it is good for you or not, just as long as the Rich can make more money off unsuspecting people not knowing.

Even Moderate Drinking Linked to Increased Cancer Risk

By Lylah M. Alphonse, Senior Editor, Yahoo! ShineHealthy Living
02-15-2013

New research shows that even a single alcoholic drink per day can increase your risk of developing certain types of cancer, including breast cancer in women.

Though people have long believed that a glass or two of wine can be good for your heart, the new study, conducted in conjunction with researchers in the U.S., Canada, and France, shows that the cancer risks far outweigh any heart-healthy benefits.

Related: What the Author of “Drinking With Men” Has to Say About Boys, Bars, and Drinking Alone

“Alcohol has long been known and recognized as a human carcinogen, so even some alcohol consumption raises your risks,” Dr. Timothy Naimi, an alcohol researcher at Boston University’s School of Public Health and a physician at the Boston University Medical Center who helped design and direct the study, told Yahoo! Shine in an interview. “On the balance of all people who begin drinking, many more people are killed by alcohol than helped by it.”

Related: Heavy Drinking Raises Risk of Divorce

“No public health body or clinical body recommends that people start drinking to improve their health,” he added.

The research, published Friday in the American Journal of Public Health, relied on existing data about cancer deaths, alcohol consumption, and risk estimates from other scientific studies. It marks the first time that researchers have examined alcohol-related cancer rates in 30 years.

They found that alcohol could be blamed for about 20,000 cancer deaths each year, or 1 out of every 30 cancer deaths in the United States, which was about what they expected. But while heavy drinkers faced the highest risks, about a third of those deaths were among people who drank only small amounts of alcohol—1.5 alcoholic drinks or fewer per day. And it didn’t matter what type of drink was consumed; standard servings of beer (12 ounces), wine (5 ounces), and hard liquor (1.5 ounces) all contain the same amount of alcohol.

The stats sound scary, but Naimi told Yahoo! Shine that the risks for mild to moderate drinkers are very low. “The people who drink small amounts of alcohol needn’t be duly concerned about this,” he said. “But it is important to recognize that when it comes to cancer, there’s no free lunch.”

While more men die from alcohol-related cancers than women (men do tend to drink more), women have more adverse consequences from drinking, not only because they tend to have less body mass than men, but because they also metabolize alcohol less efficiently. The study found that about 6,000 female breast cancer deaths each year—or 15 percent—could be attributed to alcohol consumption; for men, cancers of the mouth, throat, and esophagus were the most common types of alcohol-related cancer. Alcohol is also linked to cancer of the liver, colon, and rectum.

The study also eliminated the common misconception that Europeans, especially in France and Germany, are healthier than Americans even though they drink plenty of alcohol. If Europeans are healthier, Naimi said, it’s not likely because of their drinking habits: The number of cancer deaths attributable to alcohol in Europe was higher than in the United States.

Researcher acknowledge that people are unlikely to give up alcohol altogether. “In general, drinking less is better than drinking more, and for people who drink excessively it’s something to think about,” Naimi said. “Alcohol is a big preventable cancer risk factor that has been hiding in plain sight.”

What Does it Take for these Government Nitwits To Learn it has to STOP NOW

Comment For Nitwits
02-14-2013

If our Government keep going the way they are I am going dunce-cap-hatto start a dunce award scale, 1 to 5, and the article coming up I give this one a  FIVE 5

When are these nitwits going to under stand that they are the problems in this Country, just because people pay taxes that they are end less and can not sustain continual spending without consequences. Pay Raises and taxes need to stop now or we will be back into a Depression you will never get out of no matter what you do, and this Obama Administration has this Country headed in that direction on a fast track by telling you what to do, and if you have not noticed you better look harder, because you are blind.

Just look at what they are doing to this Country, they are putting people on the street with no place to go but an early grave, not all the people can not continue to pay for the people who can not live with what they have, BUT NO, they must have Fancy Streets, Fancy Buildings, these are the people who have to have something better than every one else, better Pay, better Benefits, and the Fancies Homes and Cars, well this all ends up costing every one else money they can not afford to continually pay.

Who said that College Education would teach you to be smarter than a High School Education, well who ever said it did not learn any thing in College, look at all these Politicians that brag about going to College and having a good education have come out being the Dummies people on earth, they don’t know the differences from a Penny to a Dollar, just like workers are a dime a dozen, but it is the knowledge of the job not the Education, you can have all the education in the world, but if you do not have the knowledge you know nothing, and our Government shows that.

Should You Renounce Your Citizenship?

By Caroline Kim | Yahoo! Finance
Wed, Feb 13, 2013

Would you renounce your U.S. citizenship if it meant you’d be sending less of your hard-earned dollars to Uncle Sam?

As Americans face higher taxes and stricter enforcement, a growing number of them are, indeed, deciding to turn in their US passports. As of 2013, 77% of Americans will pay higher federal tax rates because the cuts in Social Security payroll taxes expired when Congress passed its tax package on New Year’s Day.

But the wealthiest households face the highest tax increases. From 2009 to 2011, the number of expatriates, or those who renounced their U.S. citizenship, doubled to 1,781.

Nigel Green, CEO of deVere Group, which provides financial services for expatriates, said that since the start of this year, 48% more of his clients in January than in a typical month inquired about moving funds abroad and the possible tax implications of changing citizenship.

The income tax rate rose this year to 39.6% from 35% for individuals earning more than $400,000 a year and married couples earning more than $450,000.

The Tax Policy Center estimated that those who earn more than $1 million would pay an average of  $170,341 more in taxes.

Green said there’s a tipping point for most people with regard to tax issues affecting their choice of location and citizenship. “If there’s only 10% tax [on income], no one would be leaving. But if there’s 90%, then most people would leave,” he said.

Federal taxes aren’t the only issue, though. Increases in state income tax rates factor into these decisions as well. Recently, California enacted Proposition 30, which raised state income tax rates to 10.3% from 9.3% for individuals making at least $250,000 and 13.3% from 10.3% for those earning at least $1 million. Golfer Phil Mickelson publicly voiced his concern over the tax increases and threatened to leave California because of the higher rates.

Famous Faces
In the first three quarters of 2012, more than 1,100 people left the United States, according to the Federal Register, which tracks Americans who renounce their citizenship. (The Federal Register doesn’t make note of why these people give up their citizenships; we can only guess there are financial considerations in many situations.) Among them, one of the most high-profile examples was Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin, who filed to relinquish his U.S. citizenship in September 2011; Facebook had its initial public offering in May 2012. Saverin, a Brazil native, had already been living in Singapore for three years after emigrating to the U.S. in 1998. He could reportedly save as much as $100 million in taxes because Singapore does not tax capital gains.

Saverin isn’t the only famous renunciation. Singer and socialite Denise Rich also gave up her citizenship last year under her maiden name, Denise Eisenberg. She is well-known as the ex-wife of former international fugitive Marc Rich, a commodities trader who was indicted on 50 counts of wire fraud, tax evasion, racketeering and other charges. But on his last day in office in 2001, former president Bill Clinton pardoned Rich. Reports claimed that Eisenberg gave up her citizenship to be closer to her long-time partner, an Austrian citizen. Austria also has tax benefits for nationals who live abroad for more than half the year.

Chinese kung fu star and actor Jet Li held American and Chinese citizenships, but dropped both in 2009 in order to be a citizen in Singapore. (Singapore prohibits dual citizenship.) In interviews Li indicated that he chose Singapore because it was free from paparazzi and provided language opportunities for his children.

Most recently, actor Gerard Depardieu made headlines for renouncing his French citizenship to become a Russian citizen in order to avoid France’s proposed 75% tax on earned income above $1.4 million. Russia has a flat 13% tax rate.

Ready to Tear Up Your Passport?
According to a 2012 study published by the Research Institute of Industrial Economics that examined the mobility of billionaires over the past two decades, “70% [of those billionaires] have migrated from higher to lower capital gains tax country … One-third of the billionaires that moved went to small countries defined as ‘tax havens,’” including Switzerland, Bahamas and Singapore.

If you want to join the pack, the process to renounce your citizenship isn’t very difficult.

The U.S. Department of State says that in order to do so, one must “appear in person before a U.S. consular or diplomatic officer, in a foreign country (typically at a U.S. Embassy or Consulate); and sign an oath of renunciation.”

But before you take the plunge, be aware that if you forego your U.S. citizenship, there’s no turning back. The U.S. government won’t reinstate it if you change your mind later — so think it over carefully.

In 1965, movie star Elizabeth Taylor attempted to expatriate to keep her European income from being subject to American tax law. But she did not get approval from the State Department because she refused to disavow “all allegiance to the United States of America.”

And you might be saving money in the long run, but you still have to pay an “exit” tax, according to the Heroes Earnings Assistance and Relief Tax Act passed in 2008. This applies to those whose net worth is $2 million or more, or whose annual income tax average for the past five years is $145,000 or more (as of 2008 and adjusted annually for inflation each year). One exception applies to people who were born with dual citizenships. For the exit tax, a 15% tax applies to capital gains above $651,000, and tax on other assets like a retirement account, would be at the normal income rate up to 39.6%. These assets are taxed as if the individual were selling or withdrawing their monetary funds from the accounts on the last day of their American citizenship.

Already Living Abroad?

So is giving up your rights and privileges as a U.S. citizen worth it? If you live and conduct business mostly in the U.S., it may not be the best decision. Renouncing your citizenship isn’t just about taxes— it also means no more protection from the U.S. government; possible issues with travel visas, including traveling and staying in the U.S. for long periods of time.

But it may be worth it if you already live in a foreign country. The U.S. is one of the few nations that taxes its citizens regardless of where you live in the world. As long as you remain a U.S. citizen, you will be taxed on your income even if you’re living abroad. But if you aren’t a citizen and live in a foreign country, you don’t need to pay any income tax.

“[Renunciation] seems to be more pronounced with Americans, and that’s more with Americans currently living abroad,” Green said. “It’s easier if you’ve already left the country. There are less factors involved [in changing citizenships].”

In the case of Saverin, he was already living in Singapore and did not have deep ties to the U.S. because he hadn’t been here very long. In his case, the financial benefits were clear: he would’ve paid a 35% federal tax rate in the U.S. in addition to 15% on capital gains, while in Singapore his tax rate would be  20% at most and no capital gains tax.

So how would your tax burden stack up? If you earn $1 million a year, that’s almost $396,000 you’re keeping in your pocket (based on the top 39.6% income tax rate) if you said goodbye to the U.S. and took up residency in a place like Monaco, which doesn’t tax income at all. If you were to earn the median household income of $50,054, according to the Census Bureau, then you’d be saving $12,500 (based on a 25% federal tax bracket).

Postal Service to cut Saturday mail to trim costs

Comment: It is about time
02-06-2012

It is about time that they told the Government to go take a flying leap off their high horse, I look at it this way, if the Government does not use their services then they should not have any say on how they run the Postal Service.

mailtruck-copyRemember here a while back the article about the Government using FedEx to deliver their mail at a higher price then the Postal Service, and now they have just about totally stop using them all together, but expects them to follow their rules, and so they can keep taking money from them for their gain.

I my self blame a lot of their problems on sponsoring bike riders in an other Country for one, and I think the worst is putting out a new stamp out every month for some dingbat who wants their name or organization on it, why not put out TWO stamp, FIRST and CRAP, and leave it at that, then the cost would go down to operate, and freeze all wages and benefits to all, now and in the future.

Postal Service to cut Saturday mail to trim costs

By PAULINE JELINEK | Associated Press
02-06-2013

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. Postal Service will stop delivering mail on Saturdays but continue to deliver packages six days a week under a plan aimed at saving about $2 billion annually, the financially struggling agency says.

In an announcement scheduled for later Wednesday, the service is expected to say the Saturday mail cutback would begin in August.

The move accentuates one of the agency’s strong points — package delivery has increased by 14 percent since 2010, officials say, while the delivery of letters and other mail has declined with the increasing use of email and other Internet services.

Under the new plan, mail would be delivered to homes and businesses only from Monday through Friday, but would still be delivered to post office boxes on Saturdays. Post offices now open on Saturdays would remain open on Saturdays.

Over the past several years, the Postal Service has advocated shifting to a five-day delivery schedule for mail and packages — and it repeatedly but unsuccessfully appealed to Congress to approve the move. Though an independent agency, the service gets no tax dollars for its day-to-day operations but is subject to congressional control.

It was not immediately clear how the service could eliminate Saturday mail without congressional approval.

But the agency clearly thinks it has a majority of the American public on its side regarding the change.

Material prepared for the Wednesday press conference by Patrick R. Donahoe, postmaster general and CEO, says Postal Service market research and other research has indicated that nearly 7 in 10 Americans support the switch to five-day delivery as a way for the Postal Service to reduce costs.

“The Postal Service is advancing an important new approach to delivery that reflects the strong growth of our package business and responds to the financial realities resulting from America’s changing mailing habits,” Donahoe said in a statement prepared for the announcement. “We developed this approach by working with our customers to understand their delivery needs and by identifying creative ways to generate significant cost savings.”

But the president of the National Association of Letter Carriers, Fredric Rolando, said the end of Saturday mail delivery is “a disastrous idea that would have a profoundly negative effect on the Postal Service and on millions of customers,” particularly businesses, rural communities, the elderly, the disabled and others who depend on Saturday delivery for commerce and communication.

He said the maneuver by Donahoe to make the change “flouts the will of Congress, as expressed annually over the past 30 years in legislation that mandates six-day delivery.”

There was no immediate comment from lawmakers.

The Postal Service is making the announcement Wednesday, more than six months before the switch, to give residential and business customers time to plan and adjust, the statement said.

“The American public understands the financial challenges of the Postal Service and supports these steps as a responsible and reasonable approach to improving our financial situation,” Donahoe said. “The Postal Service has a responsibility to take the steps necessary to return to long-term financial stability and ensure the continued affordability of the U.S. Mail.”

He said the change would mean a combination of employee reassignment and attrition and is expected to achieve cost savings of approximately $2 billion annually when fully implemented.

The agency in November reported an annual loss of a record $15.9 billion for the last budget year and forecast more red ink in 2013, capping a tumultuous year in which it was forced to default on billions in retiree health benefit prepayments to avert bankruptcy.

The financial losses for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30 were more than triple the $5.1 billion loss in the previous year. Having reached its borrowing limit, the mail agency is operating with little cash on hand.

The agency’s biggest problem — and the majority of the red ink in 2012 — was not due to reduced mail flow but rather to mounting mandatory costs for future retiree health benefits, which made up $11.1 billion of the losses. Without that and other related labor expenses, the mail agency sustained an operating loss of $2.4 billion, lower than the previous year.

The health payments are a requirement imposed by Congress in 2006 that the post office set aside $55 billion in an account to cover future medical costs for retirees. The idea was to put $5.5 billion a year into the account for 10 years. That’s $5.5 billion the post office doesn’t have.

No other government agency is required to make such a payment for future medical benefits. Postal authorities wanted Congress to address the issue last year, but lawmakers finished their session without getting it done. So officials are moving ahead to accelerate their own plan for cost-cutting.

The Postal Service is in the midst of a major restructuring throughout its retail, delivery and mail processing operations. Since 2006, it has cut annual costs by about $15 billion, reduced the size of its career workforce by 193,000 or by 28 percent, and has consolidated more than 200 mail processing locations, officials say.

They say that while the change in the delivery schedule announced Wednesday is one of the actions needed to restore the financial health of the service, they still urgently need lawmakers to act. Officials say they continue to press for legislation that will give them greater flexibility to control costs and make new revenues.

Credit card checkout fee taking effect

CNN Money
By Emily Jane Fox | CNN Money
01-29-2013

You might want to think twice before whipping out your credit card. As of Sunday, stores in most states could start charging you a “checkout fee” when you pay for something with plastic.

The new fees stem from a multi-billion dollar settlement announced in July between credit card issuers and millions of merchants.

Visa, MasterCard and nine major banks agreed to a $7.25 billion deal to settle charges that they were fixing credit card processing fees. As part of the settlement, credit card issuers said they would reduce these “swipe fees” — fees paid by merchants to issuers when cards are used — but only for eight months

In addition, the settlement also gave retailers the option to tack on a surcharge if a customer uses a credit card. The retailer can only charge enough to cover the processing costs, which is about 1.5 percent to 3 percent of the total purchase, according to watchdog group Consumer Action.

This fee doesn’t apply to purchases made using debit cards. And it will still be illegal to charge the new fee in 10 states: California, Colorado, Connecticut, Florida, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, New York, Oklahoma and Texas.

Many big players in the retail industry have been up in arms about the settlement. Stores from the nation’s largest retailer down to small businesses have lamented the agreement, claiming that it transferred the wrongdoings of credit card issuers to the consumer.

In November, the National Retail Federation and more than a dozen retailers asked a judge to reject the proposed settlement. In a brief submitted to a U.S. District Court judge in Brooklyn, N.Y., the trade organization wrote that the new fees threaten a merchant’s ability to keep prices low for customers.

Wal-Mart, Macy’s, JCPenney, Limited Brands, Gap Inc. and The Neiman Marcus Group were among those who joined the NRF in claiming that “raising consumer prices by adding an ‘interchange tax’ is no remedy for Visa’s and MasterCard’s continuing monopoly abuse.”

In a separate statement, Wal-Mart said that it wasn’t interested in adding the surcharge to allow credit card companies to continue charging unfair fees. Target called the agreement “bad for both retailers and consumers.”

Merchants have a choice as to whether to implement the surcharge, but it poses quite a dilemma for them: Either get stuck footing the bill for the swipe fees, or risk transferring the cost to customers in an already competitive environment.

Last summer, Target said it had no interest in charging customers who use credit cards more “in order to allow Visa and MasterCard to continue charging unfair fees.”

Smaller merchants echoed these concerns over the deal, saying it doesn’t go far enough.
MasterCard said it doesn’t expect most merchants to put the surcharge into effect, since stores won’t want to drive away business.

“We anticipate that they will not impose checkout fees, particularly because the value merchants derive from card acceptance far exceeds their costs,” the credit card company said in a statement.

Obamacare Just Keeps Getting Better

Comment: Obamacare WOW
01-25-2013

Does this catch go for States that allow people to break the law, Federal and State law by allowing them to Smoke Marijuana in Violation of smoking in public places, and get cheep insurance, in other words it seems that Marijuana by State standers is not dangerous to where as smoking a cigarette is.

Come on you blooming Idiots, clean out your brains and show that you are smarter than a Politician who let this law be passed, Oh, I for got, they have a hole burning in their Capitals to make more money for what they have lost by people who quit smoking at their push for higher TAXES, or was that for health reasons for medical costs to the States insurance fund.

208382_334907706613555_1057883061_nAll these states have created their own problems for taxes being lost due to GREED for money and not commend since on how to spend money wisely, and throw it at their pet projects which does nothing for the good of the people.

What can you expect the RICH run the Government, and the RICH are in the Government Offices.

Penalty could keep smokers out of health overhaul

By RICARDO ALONSO-ZALDIVAR | Associated Press
01-24-2013

WASHINGTON (AP) — Millions of smokers could be priced out of health insurance because of tobacco penalties in President Barack Obama’s health care law, according to experts who are just now teasing out the potential impact of a little-noted provision in the massive legislation.

The Affordable Care Act — “Obamacare” to its detractors — allows health insurers to charge smokers buying individual policies up to 50 percent higher premiums starting next Jan. 1.

For a 55-year-old smoker, the penalty could reach nearly $4,250 a year. A 60-year-old could wind up paying nearly $5,100 on top of premiums.

Younger smokers could be charged lower penalties under rules proposed last fall by the Obama administration. But older smokers could face a heavy hit on their household budgets at a time in life when smoking-related illnesses tend to emerge.

Workers covered on the job would be able to avoid tobacco penalties by joining smoking cessation programs, because employer plans operate under different rules. But experts say that option is not guaranteed to smokers trying to purchase coverage individually.

Nearly one of every five U.S. adults smokes. That share is higher among lower-income people, who also are more likely to work in jobs that don’t come with health insurance and would therefore depend on the new federal health care law. Smoking increases the risk of developing heart disease, lung problems and cancer, contributing to nearly 450,000 deaths a year.

Insurers won’t be allowed to charge more under the overhaul for people who are overweight, or have a health condition like a bad back or a heart that skips beats — but they can charge more if a person smokes.

Starting next Jan. 1, the federal health care law will make it possible for people who can’t get coverage now to buy private policies, providing tax credits to keep the premiums affordable. Although the law prohibits insurance companies from turning away the sick, the penalties for smokers could have the same effect in many cases, keeping out potentially costly patients.

“We don’t want to create barriers for people to get health care coverage,” said California state Assemblyman Richard Pan, who is working on a law in his state that would limit insurers’ ability to charge smokers more. The federal law allows states to limit or change the smoking penalty.

“We want people who are smoking to get smoking cessation treatment,” added Pan, a pediatrician who represents the Sacramento area.

Obama administration officials declined to be interviewed for this article, but a former consumer protection regulator for the government is raising questions.

“If you are an insurer and there is a group of smokers you don’t want in your pool, the ones you really don’t want are the ones who have been smoking for 20 or 30 years,” said Karen Pollitz, an expert on individual health insurance markets with the nonpartisan Kaiser Family Foundation. “You would have the flexibility to discourage them.”

Several provisions in the federal health care law work together to leave older smokers with a bleak set of financial options, said Pollitz, formerly deputy director of the Office of Consumer Support in the federal Health and Human Services Department.

First, the law allows insurers to charge older adults up to three times as much as their youngest customers.

Second, the law allows insurers to levy the full 50 percent penalty on older smokers while charging less to younger ones.

And finally, government tax credits that will be available to help pay premiums cannot be used to offset the cost of penalties for smokers.

Here’s how the math would work:

Take a hypothetical 60-year-old smoker making $35,000 a year. Estimated premiums for coverage in the new private health insurance markets under Obama’s law would total $10,172. That person would be eligible for a tax credit that brings the cost down to $3,325.

But the smoking penalty could add $5,086 to the cost. And since federal tax credits can’t be used to offset the penalty, the smoker’s total cost for health insurance would be $8,411, or 24 percent of income. That’s considered unaffordable under the federal law. The numbers were estimated using the online Kaiser Health Reform Subsidy Calculator.

“The effect of the smoking (penalty) allowed under the law would be that lower-income smokers could not afford health insurance,” said Richard Curtis, president of the Institute for Health Policy Solutions, a nonpartisan research group that called attention to the issue with a study about the potential impact in California.

In today’s world, insurers can simply turn down a smoker. Under Obama’s overhaul, would they actually charge the full 50 percent? After all, workplace anti-smoking programs that use penalties usually charge far less, maybe $75 or $100 a month.

Robert Laszewski, a consultant who previously worked in the insurance industry, says there’s a good reason to charge the maximum.

“If you don’t charge the 50 percent, your competitor is going to do it, and you are going to get a disproportionate share of the less-healthy older smokers,” said Laszewski. “They are going to have to play defense.”

IMPACT: From the Recession take from the poor gives to Democrats Rich

Comment By Bob L.

They say five years after the recession, but people we have not come out of the Obama Recession we are still in it, and we are on the edge of another Depression if you have not noticed, and if this Administration does not get their head out of their a== to protect this Country, I thought that is what they were elected to do, not protect themselves, it is sooner coming than you think.

BERNARD CONDON and PAUL WISEMAN, these two can see it, why can’t any one else see it, I saw it coming Ten years ago, but not as bad as the last Six years, it did not take a Brain Surgeon to see it, because if it took a smart person to see it, the Government and these Think Tanks could have seen it coming, but they were to busy patting themselves on the back for what they are doing to America.

Now I know why no one else can see what is going on, just go to Facebook and tweeter, and look at them standing in front of a Mirror taking pictures of them selves with their fancy expensive phones to see what is coming, they are to busy doing that to worry about this Country.

And a word about the Article, COMPUTERS DO NOT BUY PRODUCTS, working people do, so here is where GREED BYALL mostly Public Employees through Taxes, is rearing its UGLY head.

The Associated Press

By BERNARD CONDON and PAUL WISEMAN | Associated Press
01-23-2013

NEW YORK (AP) — Five years after the start of the Great Recession, the toll is terrifyingly clear: Millions of middle-class jobs have been lost in developed countries the world over.

And the situation is even worse than it appears.

Most of the jobs will never return, and millions more are likely to vanish as well, say experts who study the labor market. What’s more, these jobs aren’t just being lost to China and other developing countries, and they aren’t just factory work. Increasingly, jobs are disappearing in the service sector, home to two-thirds of all workers.

They’re being obliterated by technology.

Year after year, the software that runs computers and an array of other machines and devices becomes more sophisticated and powerful and capable of doing more efficiently tasks that humans have always done. For decades, science fiction warned of a future when we would be architects of our own obsolescence, replaced by our machines; an Associated Press analysis finds that the future has arrived.

EDITOR’S NOTE: First in a three-part series on the loss of middle-class jobs in the wake of the Great Recession, and the role of technology.

The AP’s key findings:

—For more than three decades, technology has reduced the number of jobs in manufacturing. Robots and other machines controlled by computer programs work faster and make fewer mistakes than humans. Now, that same efficiency is being unleashed in the service economy, which employs more than two-thirds of the workforce in developed countries. Technology is eliminating jobs in office buildings, retail establishments and other businesses consumers deal with every day.

—Technology is being adopted by every kind of organization that employs people. It’s replacing workers in large corporations and small businesses, established companies and start-ups. It’s being used by schools, colleges and universities; hospitals and other medical facilities; nonprofit organizations and the military.

—The most vulnerable workers are doing repetitive tasks that programmers can write software for — an accountant checking a list of numbers, an office manager filing forms, a paralegal reviewing documents for key words to help in a case. As software becomes even more sophisticated, victims are expected to include those who juggle tasks, such as supervisors and managers — workers who thought they were protected by a college degree.

—Thanks to technology, companies in the Standard & Poor’s 500 stock index reported one-third more profit the past year than they earned the year before the Great Recession. They’ve also expanded their businesses, but total employment, at 21.1 million, has declined by a half-million.

—Start-ups account for much of the job growth in developed economies, but software is allowing entrepreneurs to launch businesses with a third fewer employees than in the 1990s. There is less need for administrative support and back-office jobs that handle accounting, payroll and benefits.

—It’s becoming a self-serve world. Instead of relying on someone else in the workplace or our personal lives, we use technology to do tasks ourselves. Some find this frustrating; others like the feeling of control. Either way, this trend will only grow as software permeates our lives.

—Technology is replacing workers in developed countries regardless of their politics, policies and laws. Union rules and labor laws may slow the dismissal of employees, but no country is attempting to prohibit organizations from using technology that allows them to operate more efficiently — and with fewer employees.

Some analysts reject the idea that technology has been a big job killer. They note that the collapse of the housing market in the U.S., Ireland, Spain and other countries and the ensuing global recession wiped out millions of middle-class construction and factory jobs. In their view, governments could bring many of the jobs back if they would put aside worries about their heavy debts and spend more. Others note that jobs continue to be lost to China, India and other countries in the developing world.

But to the extent technology has played a role, it raises the specter of high unemployment even after economic growth accelerates. Some economists say millions of middle-class workers must be retrained to do other jobs if they hope to get work again. Others are more hopeful. They note that technological change over the centuries eventually has created more jobs than it destroyed, though the wait can be long and painful.

A common refrain: The developed world may face years of high middle-class unemployment, social discord, divisive politics, falling living standards and dashed hopes.

___

In the U.S., the economic recovery that started in June 2009 has been called the third straight “jobless recovery.”

But that’s a misnomer. The jobs came back after the first two.

Most recessions since World War II were followed by a surge in new jobs as consumers started spending again and companies hired to meet the new demand. In the months after recessions ended in 1991 and 2001, there was no familiar snap-back, but all the jobs had returned in less than three years.

But 42 months after the Great Recession ended, the U.S. has gained only 3.5 million, or 47 percent, of the 7.5 million jobs that were lost. The 17 countries that use the euro had 3.5 million fewer jobs last June than in December 2007.

This has truly been a jobless recovery, and the lack of midpay jobs is almost entirely to blame.

Fifty percent of the U.S. jobs lost were in midpay industries, but Moody’s Analytics, a research firm, says just 2 percent of the 3.5 million jobs gained are in that category. After the four previous recessions, at least 30 percent of jobs created — and as many as 46 percent — were in midpay industries.

Other studies that group jobs differently show a similar drop in middle-class work.

Some of the most startling studies have focused on midskill, midpay jobs that require tasks that follow well-defined procedures and are repeated throughout the day. Think travel agents, salespeople in stores, office assistants and back-office workers like benefits managers and payroll clerks, as well as machine operators and other factory jobs. An August 2012 paper by economists Henry Siu of the University of British Columbia and Nir Jaimovich of Duke University found these kinds of jobs comprise fewer than half of all jobs, yet accounted for nine of 10 of all losses in the Great Recession. And they have kept disappearing in the economic recovery.

Webb Wheel Products makes parts for truck brakes, which involves plenty of repetitive work. Its newest employee is the Doosan V550M, and it’s a marvel. It can spin a 130-pound brake drum like a child’s top, smooth its metal surface, then drill holes — all without missing a beat. And it doesn’t take vacations or “complain about anything,” says Dwayne Ricketts, president of the Cullman, Ala., company.

Thanks to computerized machines, Webb Wheel hasn’t added a factory worker in three years, though it’s making 300,000 more drums annually, a 25 percent increase.

“Everyone is waiting for the unemployment rate to drop, but I don’t know if it will much,” Ricketts says. “Companies in the recession learned to be more efficient, and they’re not going to go back.”

In Europe, companies couldn’t go back even if they wanted to. The 17 countries that use the euro slipped into another recession 14 months ago, in November 2011. The current unemployment rate is a record 11.8 percent.

European companies had been using technology to replace midpay workers for years, and now that has accelerated.

“The recessions have amplified the trend,” says Goos, the Belgian economist. “New jobs are being created, but not the middle-pay ones.”

In Canada, a 2011 study by economists at the University of British Columbia and York University in Toronto found a similar pattern of middle-class losses, though they were working with older data. In the 15 years through 2006, the share of total jobs held by many midpay, midskill occupations shrank. The share held by foremen fell 37 percent, workers in administrative and senior clerical roles fell 18 percent and those in sales and service fell 12 percent.

In Japan, a 2009 report from Hitotsubashi University in Tokyo documented a “substantial” drop in midpay, midskill jobs in the five years through 2005, and linked it to technology.

Developing economies have been spared the technological onslaught — for now. Countries like Brazil and China are still growing middle-class jobs because they’re shifting from export-driven to consumer-based economies. But even they are beginning to use more machines in manufacturing. The cheap labor they relied on to make goods from apparel to electronics is no longer so cheap as their living standards rise.

One example is Sunbird Engineering, a Hong Kong firm that makes mirror frames for heavy trucks at a factory in southern China. Salaries at its plant in Dongguan have nearly tripled from $80 a month in 2005 to $225 today. “Automation is the obvious next step,” CEO Bill Pike says.

Sunbird is installing robotic arms that drill screws into a mirror assembly, work now done by hand. The machinery will allow the company to eliminate two positions on a 13-person assembly line. Pike hopes that additional automation will allow the company to reduce another five or six jobs from the line.

“By automating, we can outlive the labor cost increases inevitable in China,” Pike says. “Those who automate in China will win the battle of increased costs.”

Foxconn Technology Group, which assembles iPhones at factories in China, unveiled plans in 2011 to install one million robots over three years.

A recent headline in the China Daily newspaper: “Chinese robot wars set to erupt.”

___

Candidates for U.S. president last year never tired of telling Americans how jobs were being shipped overseas. China, with its vast army of cheaper labor and low-value currency, was easy to blame.

But most jobs cut in the U.S. and Europe weren’t moved. No one got them. They vanished. And the villain in this story — a clever software engineer working in Silicon Valley or the high-tech hub around Heidelberg, Germany — isn’t so easy to hate.

“It doesn’t have political appeal to say the reason we have a problem is we’re so successful in technology,” says Joseph Stiglitz, a Nobel Prize-winning economist at Columbia University. “There’s no enemy there.”

Unless you count family and friends and the person staring at you in the mirror. The uncomfortable truth is technology is killing jobs with the help of ordinary consumers by enabling them to quickly do tasks that workers used to do full time, for salaries.

Use a self-checkout lane at the supermarket or drugstore? A worker behind a cash register used to do that.

Buy clothes without visiting a store? You’ve taken work from a salesman.

Click “accept” in an email invitation to attend a meeting? You’ve pushed an office assistant closer to unemployment.

Book your vacation using an online program? You’ve helped lay off a travel agent. Perhaps at American Express Co., which announced this month that it plans to cut 5,400 jobs, mainly in its travel business, as more of its customers shift to online portals to plan trips.

Software is picking out worrisome blots in medical scans, running trains without conductors, driving cars without drivers, spotting profits in stocks trades in milliseconds, analyzing Twitter traffic to tell where to sell certain snacks, sifting through documents for evidence in court cases, recording power usage beamed from digital utility meters at millions of homes, and sorting returned library books.

Technology gives rise to “cheaper products and cool services,” says David Autor, an economist at MIT, one of the first to document tech’s role in cutting jobs. “But if you lose your job, that is slim compensation.”

Even the most commonplace technologies — take, say, email — are making it tough for workers to get jobs, including ones with MBAs, like Roshanne Redmond, a former project manager at a commercial real estate developer.

“I used to get on the phone, talk to a secretary and coordinate calendars,” Redmond says. “Now, things are done by computer.”

Technology is used by companies to run leaner and smarter in good times and bad, but never more than in bad. In a recession, sales fall and companies cut jobs to save money. Then they turn to technology to do tasks people used to do. And that’s when it hits them: They realize they don’t have to re-hire the humans when business improves, or at least not as many.

The Hackett Group, a consultant on back-office jobs, estimates 2 million of them in finance, human resources, information technology and procurement have disappeared in the U.S. and Europe since the Great Recession. It pins the blame for more than half of the losses on technology. These are jobs that used to fill cubicles at almost every company — clerks paying bills and ordering supplies, benefits managers filing health-care forms and IT experts helping with computer crashes.

“The effect of (technology) on white-collar jobs is huge, but it’s not obvious,” says MIT’s McAfee. Companies “don’t put out a press release saying we’re not hiring again because of machines.”

___

What hope is there for the future?

Historically, new companies and new industries have been the incubator of new jobs. Start-up companies no more than five years old are big sources of new jobs in developed economies. In the U.S., they accounted for 99 percent of new private sector jobs in 2005, according to a study by the University of Maryland’s John Haltiwanger and two other economists.

But even these companies are hiring fewer people. The average new business employed 4.7 workers when it opened its doors in 2011, down from 7.6 in the 1990s, according to a Labor Department study released last March.

Technology is probably to blame, wrote the report’s authors, Eleanor Choi and James Spletzer. Entrepreneurs no longer need people to do clerical and administrative tasks to help them get their businesses off the ground.

In the old days — say, 10 years ago — “you’d need an assistant pretty early to coordinate everything — or you’d pay a huge opportunity cost for the entrepreneur or the president to set up a meeting,” says Jeff Connally, CEO of CMIT Solutions, a technology consultancy to small businesses.

Now technology means “you can look at your calendar and everybody else’s calendar and — bing! — you’ve set up a meeting.” So no assistant gets hired.

Entrepreneur Andrew Schrage started the financial advice website Money Crashers in 2009 with a partner and one freelance writer. The bare-bones start-up was only possible, Schrage says, because of technology that allowed the company to get online help with accounting and payroll and other support functions without hiring staff.

“Had I not had access to cloud computing and outsourcing, I estimate that I would have needed 5-10 employees to begin this venture,” Schrage says. “I doubt I would have been able to launch my business.”

Technological innovations have been throwing people out of jobs for centuries. But they eventually created more work, and greater wealth, than they destroyed. Ford, the author and software engineer, thinks there is reason to believe that this time will be different. He sees virtually no end to the inroads of computers into the workplace. Eventually, he says, software will threaten the livelihoods of doctors, lawyers and other highly skilled professionals.

Many economists are encouraged by history and think the gains eventually will outweigh the losses. But even they have doubts.

“What’s different this time is that digital technologies show up in every corner of the economy,” says McAfee, a self-described “digital optimist.” ”Your tablet (computer) is just two or three years old, and it’s already taken over our lives.”

Peter Lindert, an economist at the University of California, Davis, says the computer is more destructive than innovations in the Industrial Revolution because the pace at which it is upending industries makes it hard for people to adapt.

Occupations that provided middle-class lifestyles for generations can disappear in a few years. Utility meter readers are just one example. As power companies began installing so-called smart readers outside homes, the number of meter readers in the U.S. plunged from 56,000 in 2001 to 36,000 in 2010, according to the Labor Department.

In 10 years? That number is expected to be zero.

___

NEXT: Practically human: Can smart machines do your job?

___

“The jobs that are going away aren’t coming back,” says Andrew McAfee, principal research scientist at the Center for Digital Business at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and co-author of “Race Against the Machine.” ”I have never seen a period where computers demonstrated as many skills and abilities as they have over the past seven years.”

The global economy is being reshaped by machines that generate and analyze vast amounts of data; by devices such as smartphones and tablet computers that let people work just about anywhere, even when they’re on the move; by smarter, nimbler robots; and by services that let businesses rent computing power when they need it, instead of installing expensive equipment and hiring IT staffs to run it. Whole employment categories, from secretaries to travel agents, are starting to disappear.

“There’s no sector of the economy that’s going to get a pass,” says Martin Ford, who runs a software company and wrote “The Lights in the Tunnel,” a book predicting widespread job losses. “It’s everywhere.”

The numbers startle even labor economists. In the United States, half the 7.5 million jobs lost during the Great Recession were in industries that pay middle-class wages, ranging from $38,000 to $68,000. But only 2 percent of the 3.5 million jobs gained since the recession ended in June 2009 are in midpay industries. Nearly 70 percent are in low-pay industries, 29 percent in industries that pay well.

In the 17 European countries that use the euro as their currency, the numbers are even worse. Almost 4.3 million low-pay jobs have been gained since mid-2009, but the loss of midpay jobs has never stopped. A total of 7.6 million disappeared from January 2008 through last June.

Experts warn that this “hollowing out” of the middle-class workforce is far from over. They predict the loss of millions more jobs as technology becomes even more sophisticated and reaches deeper into our lives. Maarten Goos, an economist at the University of Leuven in Belgium, says Europe could double its middle-class job losses.

Some occupations are beneficiaries of the march of technology, such as software engineers and app designers for smartphones and tablet computers. Overall, though, technology is eliminating far more jobs than it is creating.

To understand the impact technology is having on middle-class jobs in developed countries, the AP analyzed employment data from 20 countries; tracked changes in hiring by industry, pay and task; compared job losses and gains during recessions and expansions over the past four decades; and interviewed economists, technology experts, robot manufacturers, software developers, entrepreneurs and people in the labor force who ranged from CEOs to the unemployed.

People and the Government and Taxes

Comment: What a Comment!
01-17-2013 or is 1920’s??
Going into the 30’s

DunceCapI might have some dumb comments, but they are no dumber than the way people act and things they do today, it is what I see and read that makes my opinion, Some might not be a true story today but usually ends up true later, but it is how I see it, and usually it does becomes fact down the road.

I remember a few years back when Nixon was elected on his Honesty, yet some did not trust him, and wallah look what happen, then no one admitted that they voted for him, well here we go again, another Honest President that has not done any thing but protect him self and his Family for life, but not YOURS, but a President who has done every thing to bring this country down, I have not seen so many U.S. Citizens so BRAIN WASHED  or BRAIN DEAD do so little to protect this County where they were born, I could say more, but that will be another Dumb story to what I see going on in this Country today from the past years.

How many of you will admit that things are going back to when the only way to have a job Guaranteed was to be a slave, from what I can see the last Four years is that slavery and Discrimination are coming back, but this time you have a four class system, Rich, Government, Middle, and the Slaves, it use to be Rich, Government, and Slaves.

Electric_Blue_Animated_Text_Terms_And_Conditions_8
Lets start at the top of the chart, the Rich will still not pay their fair share of taxes, they tell the Government what to do, the Government does what they are told, so the Government tells the Middle and the Slaves what they can earn and how they will be taxed, the Middle thumbs their nose at the poor and Elderly and tells them where they are going to live, and the Middle is one of the reasons why the Poor and the Elderly have a hard time to find a place to live, and why there are more homeless.

The POINT is, it is the PEOPLE who are the ones that are plotting the future of our Children not the Government, the Government only does what the People want, and that is the problem, the People today want more than they need, look around you, look at what your wants and gotta haves are doing to this Country, and who is going to pay for this all, if you have not figured it out by now than you are one of those DUMB and STUPID YUPPIES that gotta have the best of every thing, and bar the door untill you get it, while in the mean time you are putting your Children and Grandchildren in the poor house, so don’t blame one person, you are ALL TO BLAME, from the very Top to the to the very Bottom.

Today we have to many nambypambies that want it all but will not fight to protect it, but now that they are about to lose it, they are crying the blues, YUPPIES you can not have it both ways, you have to fight to protect it, or just sit back and let your freedoms go on its way of Cuba, China and North Korea, or under control of a Hitler type of Government where people are Executed by GAS because they do not like who you are. Here is what Obama thinks of the American Middle class, Passes Him Self A taxpayer bill to protect him self for LIFE time Protection.

Once out of Office they should have to pay for their own security, it seems that when they leave office they are millionaires and can pay for their own security, this is the first place they can cut runaway Government spending, just think how much it is costing taxpayers to protect retired politicians and their families, and if they don’t think it is fair, then they should not take the office, once their term is up then they are no better than A U.S. Citizen and have to go by the same laws as every Citizen and give up ALL their perks they got while in that office (NO more Taxpayer FREE ride) Once Out of OFFICE they are Private Citizens that is not initialed to protection.

Obama signs law giving himself, Bush lifetime Secret Service guard!

By Olivier Knox, Yahoo! News | The Ticket
01-10-2013

Former presidents have to give up rides on Air Force One. But now they don’t have to give up being shadowed by the armed-and-earpieced bodyguards of the Secret Service.

President Barack Obama on Thursday signed into a law a measure giving him, George W. Bush and future former presidents and their spouses lifetime Secret Service protection, the White House announced.

The legislation, crafted by Republican Rep. Trey Gowdy of South Carolina, rolls back a mid-1990s law that imposed a 10-year limit on Secret Service protection for former presidents. Bush would have been the first former commander in chief affected.

At the time, lawmakers who supported the measure said it would save the government millions of dollars. They also argued that former presidents could hire private security firms (as Richard Nixon did after he decided to forgo Secret Service protection in 1985).

The bill had sailed through Congress with bipartisan support—it cleared the House of Representatives by voice vote in early December, and then it zipped through the Senate unopposed. The law also provides protection for former presidents’ kids until age 16. But “protection of a spouse shall terminate in the event of remarriage.”

The Secret Service started protecting presidents in 1901 after the assassination of William McKinley. In 1965, Congress passed a law authorizing the agency, which is now a part of the Department of Homeland Security, to protect former presidents for life.

Who are the Winners & Who are the Losers

Comment:   Who are the Winners (Government) & Who are the Losers (Taxpayers)
January,02,2013

If this goes through it shows that Obama does not care about the non 2912600689_e08ffa84d9_zGovernment TAXPAYER, to think Obama signs an Executive Order a week before EVEN before they had a deal to vote on for the Fiscal Cliff (???), to give all Government Employees a pay raise. and not having any Idea the strain that it puts on low-income people who don’t have the advantage of getting raises, and stuck with an income that will never go up (if the Government gets their way), this is typical of all Government Agencies, raise Taxes, Wages, and prices on other things to spend money on, things that don’t have any thing to do with getting people back to full-time work.

greedy-businessman-cartoon-i3Then you have Big Corporation and Companies that get paid TEN to twenty times more than they should, and then have the gall to tell their Employees to go take a flying leap in to a pile of @#$% and to have the nerve to ask for a pay raise, and our Government Agencies are just as bad getting Raises and cost of living they don’t deserve that most Americans don’t get.

How come they waited until now Mon. Dec. 31 to come out with their pay raises that Obama passed a week ago (this should be the Americans saying ya or nay on their raises and how much), was he trying to sneak it through just like Obamacare before the Americans could find out.

‘Fiscal Cliff’ Deal to Block Pay Hike for Congress

ABC OTUS News –
Mon, Dec 31, 2012

Legislation to prevent the government from going over the so-called fiscal cliff will also block a $900 automatic pay hike for members of Congress.

It’s one more reason for lawmakers to vote for the measure extending Bush-era tax cuts on individual income up to $450,000 while increasing rates for earnings above that threshold.

Under a 1989 law, lawmakers are supposed to receive automatic cost-of-living pay hikes, but as Congress’ approval ratings have fallen, lawmakers have routinely voted to reject the raise.

Lawmakers make $174,000 a year. They had already voted in September to block the pay raise through March 27, but President Barack Obama recently issued an executive order to implement it, along with a pay increase for federal workers.

Happy Holiday Really

Comment  Thank You
January 1 2013

grampsI would like to thank you all who have followed me through good or bad post continue reading, some times I misspell or miss use a word, what do you expect from an Old Fart who has seen a lot of change and how it has hurt a lot of Americans through the years, SEASONS GREETINGS TO HOPEFULLY A BETTER YEAR.

I hope to see that every one gets to have a HAPPY New Year, but  the way this Government  put their priority’s to give them selves more power, I don’t see any way that 2013 is going to be any better, but if I heard the news right, Obama wants to give them selves a Nine Hundred Dollar Pay-raise ($900.00) that Obama passed last week, Plus restore their Cost of living, that to me is a slap in the face to all the people who are close to being home less on minimum wage or getting only Four Hours of work a day, and who don’t get the advantage of cost of living raises.

I have to look back to years growing up and seeing the Working people getting cuts that the Government has added to them selves, they expect the people to work Three Hundred Sixty Five Days a year to pay more taxes plus give Companies more power against workers, and then you have Unions that have become a business in them selves and no longer protect its workers like they should, sure they look good standing up there and saying how much they are protecting the American worker, but when you get a pay raise how much do they get out of that raise, when you look at where they spend a lot of time, you can guess who is getting the benefits from the Government.

When I read an article, I look at what it could do to this Country if it was true or faults, and I feel that it is some thing that should be brought up, True or Faults, but some of these Faults stories some how end up becoming a law down the road and should be stopped before some Idiot thinks it is a good idea, and that is my opinion and hopefully that Americans believe too, and where this comes from is how the Government passes laws behind closed doors and keeping them Classified so the people don’t know what is in them, good example, Obamacare, does any one know what the total outcome is by the time it hits full power, signed, sealed and delivered behind closed doors, and told, you have to pass it if you want to know what is in it, the American People need to have these DOORS CLOSED meetings closed permanently.

Faults Promises of the Fiscal Cliff

Faults Promises as long as the Rich have Control of the Government.
12-29-2012

There are Faults Promises in the fiscal cliff, no matter what happens, the biggest losers no matter what the out come, is going to be the people who can least afford it.

They talk about Entitlements, it always comes up to Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security, but what they are not telling you is that a lot of these Entitlements are for the Rich, take farm aid, WHAT, yes there a lot of Wealthy people who are getting this help as farmers that don’t even run their farm, these people are News people, CEOs who draw millions in wages who never see the farms they run except in a Picture, but yet they get this farm aid and leaving the real farmer struggling to keep their farms from going under and having to sell them to the Greedy Rich, this also includes Real-estate moguls.

Years back there was a bomb shell dropped about people getting farm aid that were not even a farm, they were a Tennis Ranch, a Horse Ranch, and it goes on, but they don’t want to touch these types of Entitlements because these are programs for the Rich.

A good example of what is going on in this Country today, Government Agencies don’t under stand what all this spending to help the rich and people who want every thing, every time you want you put a strain on the poor who can not get pay raises every year, look how long it has taken to get a raise for people making minimum wage, and in the mean time cost of living has gone so high that low-income people are one step to living on the street because to find a place to live, the prices keep going up to where for every Dollar that is made Seventy Cents ($.70) goes to rent, what is left, Utilities, Gas to go to work and repairs, this takes another Fifteen Cents ($.15), then you have taxes, would you say that is Eight Cents ($.08), so what is left for food to feed your Family, Fifteen Cents ($.07) but yet they want to keep spending money that they don’t have, so who is paying the price, NOT the RICH.

They make statements like wages should be allowed to raise, this is just like Raising Taxes, Prices, this also goes for the Government, every time they get their Automatic Pay Raises and Cost Of Living, WHAT DO YOU THINK WILL HAPPEN, the same thing we are doing now, heading back to a Great Depression, but you better add another Great to that, but this time it will be total Destruction, because people today are so greedy that the person with the biggest BOMB will survive, but what will that prove, NOTHING, because there will be nothing left. If you look at it now, it has already started, killing and stealing, and Robbing others who don’t have it like the rich, go after them they got it not the poor.

David_Dees_Obama_and_Gun_ConfiscationI must say He only hears what he wants and what won’t cut into his profits, this same thing goes for every Politician, but when it come’s to the Constitution, they will not do any thing to change any thing that can make them money, take for instance VIOLENT VIDEO GAMES, Nine times out of Ten, these shootings show that they were into them along with VIOLENT MOVIES, why don’t we start there, we can’t because it comes under the First Amendment, and we can not go against it, but yet they can go after the Second Amendment to take your rights away from protecting your self.

Obama on gun violence petitions: ‘We hear you’

By Olivier Knox, Yahoo! News | The Ticket
12-21-2012

President Barack Obama on Friday told hundreds of thousands of people who have signed White House petitions urging him to do more to battle gun violence: “We hear you.” Obama also pleaded with Americans to mount a “sustained effort” to press Congress for action.

The president, in a rare video response to an outpouring of calls for action in the aftermath of the school massacre in Newtown, Conn., vowed to push to “steps that both protect our rights and protect our kids” but asked the public for help.

“I will do everything in my power as president to advance these efforts, because if there’s even one thing we can do as a country to protect our children, we have a responsibility to try,” he said. But “I can’t do it alone. I need your help.”

“If we’re going to succeed it’s going to take a sustained effort from mothers and fathers daughters and sons law enforcement and responsible gun owners, organizing, speaking up, calling their members of congress as many times as it takes, standing up and saying enough on behalf of all our kids,” Obama said.

“You started something and now I’m asking you to keep at it.”

World Wide Killings

Who is Really at Fault
12-18-2012

K praying-asking-god_svg_thumbMy deepest feelings go out to all the Families who have lost Loved one from War, Terrorist with a Gun, and some with Disabilities.

I put the blame on the Parents who don’t care what their kids are doing, because they are spending most of their time going to Parties, or hanging around the Local Pub Drinking and Smoking POT, but as far as teaching their kids right or wrong, they don’t have time, most of the time they don’t even know where they are, but they are not all the blame, the Government has their hand in the problem as well.

Who is to blame, it is not the gun, it is people who will do any thing to get their names in the News, but when it comes to doing something about it, I DON’T WANT TO GET INVOLVED, well you better look again, you are involved, the day you took it upon your self to get your name in the news promoting some thing that you don’t know what the outcome can bring, well that is what is happening around the world, but you will sit down and  promote and watch Violent Movies, Play Violent video games, and TV Cop Shows that promote Police Brutality, but these are the people who are trying to ban firearms, sex education, and religion in schools, but they will promote Alcoholic and Marijuana and what ever else they can do to get their name in the News, how do we know if they are not in cahoots to help disarm all Legal law-abiding Citizens who want to protect themselves.

Look a round you look what is happening around the World, people who don’t have any way to protect themselves are getting Massacred (a general slaughter, as of persons: the massacre of millions during the war that Politicians start.) is this what you want here in the United States, just because it is not here now does not mean it won’t be in the future, is this what  you want to leave your kids hiding in caves because they can not defend themselves.

$8.25 Man and A $8.75 Million CEO Same Company

Comment:  Right To Work What the differences From a Union
12-13-2012

People talk about Poor wages, they complain about no health insurance,70663-Royalty-Free-RF-Clipart-Illustration-Of-A-Lazy-Boss-Smoking-A-Cigar-And-Relaxing-With-His-Feet-On-His-Desk but yet CEO’s say they can’t afford to give their Employees a Pay raise and Insurance, BUT YET they can give them selves pay raises and Health insurance along with the Board of Directors and top Executives Top Dollar and yearly raises, and the Government does nothing about it like they did back in the Sixties where they set Workers pay at Three Percent a year, that is about when the spread between WORKERS and CEO’s started and Insurance started to disappear.

Conflict Of Office

Conflict Of Office

Now how about the Unions Pay packages and Insurance (not the Members, but the Unions), and what have they done to help get equal pay as all CEO,s nothing, but they sure hobnob with them, play golf, go to lunch with them, you can go on and on, just like Boeing s, can not give pay raises but they sure give them selves one, and this is the same as all Companies, AND WHAT have some Unions done for you other than take away your pay raise to pay your increase in DUES.

I am not against some Unions because I am a Union member and treated good, but I have been in other Unions and got nothing but pay dews and watch them drive around in fancy cars and go to high-end restaurants to eat, and see them run around in Five Hundred Dollar Suits or more, now is that protecting you the worker.

What is Obama doing about this, taking his $8.25 an hour job and giving it to some one else (spreading the wealth).

McDonald’s $8.25 Man and $8.75 Million CEO Shows Pay Gap

Bloomberg
By Leslie Patton | Bloomberg
Wed, Dec 12, 2012

Tyree Johnson scrubs himself with a bar of soap in a McDonald’s (MCD) bathroom and puts on fresh deodorant. He stashes his toiletries in a Kenneth Cole bag, a gift from his mother who works the counter at Macy’s, and hops on an El train. His destination: another McDonald’s.

Johnson isn’t one of Chicago’s many homeless people who seek shelter in fast-food joints. He’s a McDonald’s employee, at both stores — one in the Loop, the other about a mile away in the shadow of Holy Name Cathedral.

He needs the makeshift baths because hygiene and appearance are part of his annual compensation reviews. Even with frequent scrubbings, he said before a recent shift, it’s hard to remove the essence of the greasy food he works around.

“I hate when my boss tells me she won’t give me a raise because she can smell me,” he said.

Johnson, 44, needs the two paychecks to pay rent for his apartment at a single-room occupancy hotel on the city’s north side. While he’s worked at McDonald’s stores for two decades, he still doesn’t get 40 hours a week and makes $8.25 an hour, minimum wage in Illinois.

This is life in one of America’s premier growth industries. Fast-food restaurants have added positions more than twice as fast as the U.S. average during the recovery that began in June 2009. The jobs created by companies including Burger King Worldwide Inc. and Yum! Brands Inc. (YUM), which owns the Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and KFC brands, are among the lowest-paid in the U.S. — except in the C suite.

Pay Disparity

The pay gap separating fast-food workers from their chief executive officers is growing at each of those companies. The disparity has doubled at McDonald’s Corp. in the last 10 years, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. At the same time, the company helped pay for lobbying against minimum-wage increases and sought to quash the kind of unionization efforts that erupted recently on the streets of Chicago and New York.

Older workers like Johnson are staffing fast-food grills and fryers more often, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s Current Population Survey. In 2010, 16- to 19-year-olds made up 17 percent of food preparation and serving workers, down from almost a quarter in 2000, as older, underemployed Americans took those jobs.

“The sheer number of adults in the industry has just exploded” because fast-food restaurants “not only survived, but thrived during the economic recession,” said Saru Jayaraman, director of the Food Labor Research Center at the University of California at Berkeley.

Million Hours

Jim Skinner, President and CEO of McDonald’s (Denis Sinyakoov/Reuters/Corbis)Johnson would need about a million hours of work — or more than a century on the clock — to earn the $8.75 million that McDonald’s, based in the Chicago suburb of Oak Brook, paid then- CEO Jim Skinner last year. Johnson’s work flipping burgers and hoisting boxes of french fries, like millions of other jobs in low-wage industries, helps explain why income inequality grew after the 2007-2009 recession ended.

The recovery from the last downturn has been the most uneven in recent history. The 1.2 million households whose incomes put them in the top 1 percent of the U.S. saw their earnings increase 5.5 percent last year, according to census estimates. Earnings fell 1.7 percent for the 97 million households in the bottom 80 percent — those who made less than $101,583.

The widening chasm is most pronounced in the restaurant and retail businesses. The total number of people employed in the U.S. at Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and McDonald’s and Yum Brands restaurants exceeds the entire 2.7 million population of Chicago. Net income at those three companies has jumped by at least 22 percent from four years ago.

Shareholders Benefit

Shareholders, not employees, have reaped the rewards. McDonald’s, for example, spent $6 billion on share repurchases and dividends last year, the equivalent of $14,286 per restaurant worker employed by the company. At the same time, restaurant companies have formed an industrywide effort to freeze the minimum wage, whose purchasing power is 20 percent less than in 1968, according to the Economic Policy Institute, a think tank that advocates for low- and middle-income workers.

Johnson begins most days the same way: picking cigarette butts out of the shower drain of a shared bathroom, using a tissue so he doesn’t touch them. While there’s a “No Smoking” sign posted inside the hotel where he lives, that doesn’t stop the other occupants who share the showers, sinks and toilets.

His rent at the hotel in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood is $320 a month. Johnson usually can’t cover it all at once, so he’s allowed to pay $160 every two weeks, or even $80 a week, for his first-floor room. He’s late on November rent and owes about $100 — some of it a late-payment fee, he said. Since falling behind, he’s put off buying a Dell laptop for $99 that he found online.

‘Forget Computer’

“Forget about that computer,” Johnson said. For now, he’ll keep going to a local Apple store when he wants to update his Facebook page in his efforts to find someone nice to date and to stay in touch with his father.

A pay stub of Johnson’s shows that he earned $8,518.80 through Sept. 9 this year at the store that gives him most of his hours. He was able to work only 52 hours during that two- week pay period because the restaurant was being remodeled, he said. A statement of earnings from his other McDonald’s job shows that he worked fewer than 12 hours over two weeks, earning $95.45 before taxes.

Even with the U.S unemployment rate dropping last month to 7.7 percent, minimum-wage earners have less power to demand higher pay because so many adults are willing to take low-wage positions, said Nelson Lichtenstein, director of the Center for the Study of Work, Labor and Democracy at the University of California at Santa Barbara.

White House seeks $60.4 billion for Sandy reconstruction

Comment: Baloney Yes Baloney
12-08-2012

They built it they can rebuild it not the taxpayer! (these states, with the highest tax burdens in the nation: New Jersey at 11.8% of income, New York at 11.7% of income) and they want every one else to bail them out, get rid of State Income Taxes, then it would be a different situation.
And just think they want every one else to rebuild their state, now before you tell me to stick it in my ear, people who live inland should get the help but not any one who lives on the coast or flood land who know that this time is inevitable and will definitely cause this much damage, so like they are always telling people, buyer, but in this case builder beware, you are responsible for what you do.

It not the responsibility of the U.S. Taxpayer or Insurance Company to KEEP rebuilding these homes because people wanted to build there, and the Government agencies in these states, Counties and cities are the ones who allow this to happen because the are GREEDY for as much taxes they can get away with.

They want you to believe that it is the responsibility of the Government to build sea walls to protect these homes, but look a what happen in LOUISIANA, a lot of the City is behind a seawall, where did the water go after the storm, it didn’t, it stayed there until they could get pumps to get red or it, the same thing will happen if you do the same thing  everywhere you want to keep the water out, pumps will be needed to get the water out, and this means more destruction.

So the moral of the story is, the people who real need the help from the Insurance and Government can not afford to pay the premiums because of the greedy who build where they should not.

White House seeks $60.4 billion for Sandy reconstruction

By Olivier Knox, Yahoo! News The Ticket
12-07-2012

President Barack Obama formally asked Congress Friday for $60.4 billion to help states such as New Jersey and New York rebuild in the aftermath of devastating Superstorm Sandy.

“Our Nation has an obligation to assist those who suffered losses and who lack adequate resources to rebuild their lives,” acting Office of Management and Budget Director Jeffrey Zients said in a letter to Republican House Speaker John Boehner and Democratic Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

“Although estimates of the total damage of Hurricane Sandy remain in flux, current projections are that Sandy is on track to be the second or third most costly natural disaster in U.S. history, behind Hurricane Katrina (2005) and close to Hurricane Andrew (1992),” Zients wrote.

The emergency spending aid request “includes efforts to repair damage to homes and public infrastructure and to help affected communities prepare for future storms,” he said.

The news came a day after New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie met with Obama and top aides behind closed doors at the White House and then canvassed Capitol Hill.

Christie and New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo released a joint statement praising the bill, saying it would help the region “to recover, repair and rebuild better and stronger than before” and would offer states “maximum flexibility” in how to use the funds.

“We thank President Obama for his steadfast commitment of support and look forward to continuing our partnership in the recovery effort,” Christie and Cuomo said in the joint statement.

New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg noted in a separate statement that the White House proposal did not include “everything requested” by officials in the region. Last month, state and local officials estimated that New York and New Jersey had incurred more than $80 billion in damages when the storm hit in late October.

Bloomberg also said officials “have always been realistic about the fiscal restraints facing the federal government. Now it’s up to Congress to come together and work in a bipartisan fashion. We need a full recovery package to be voted on in this session of Congress. Any delay will impede our recovery.”

Holly Bailey contributed to this report from New York.

Washington State Breaks Law

Comment:   Washington State Breaks several Laws, even its own
12-06-2012

Now that Washington State has allowed people to smoke marijuana, they are now guilty of breaking Federal and State laws, one allowing the use of a controlled substance, and two allowing smoking in public which they passed a few years back complaining about smoking being hazardous to your health and that second-hand is as bad as Smoking.

Now that we have a drug czar and entourage here in Washington, it is time for the Washington State Attorney General to file charges against ALL involved with distribution and Advertising of an illegal substance and should be arrested, and any one who does not enforce the law of an illegal substance.

How does it feel that you will now have to share the road with drunk drivers, and now stoned drug users, let alone have to work with though who are spaced out and don’t have full control of what they are doing.

And now that it has been passed, it will not stop with just the age of Twenty One, they can not control any one under the age of Twenty One from drinking, just look at how many are killed every year from drinking, this includes innocent people including Children who were not drinking or on a controlled substance, let alone a Pilot flying a plane, Bus Driver, Taxi Driver, Truck Driver, Aid or Fire Driver, and Equipment Operators it can go on.

Smoking prohibited in public places or places of employment.

No person may smoke in a public place or in any place of employment.

Smoking in Public Places Law

On November 8, 2005, Washingtonians made a healthy choice by voting to pass Initiative 901. The initiative prohibits smoking in all restaurants and bars by amending the state’s 1985 Clean Indoor Air Act. Today, the definition of “public place” includes bars, restaurants, bowling centers, skating rinks, and non-tribal casinos. The definition also includes private residences used to provide childcare, foster care, adult care, or similar social services, and at least 75 percent of the sleeping quarters within a hotel.

The Smoking in Public Places law also prohibits smoking within 25 feet of entrances, exits, windows that open, and ventilation intakes that serve enclosed areas where smoking is prohibited. The State won’t even Enforce this part of the law unless they have at least TEN People complain about it, go to these stores, people standing under the cover out of the rain or wind Smoking, and that is the first thing that hits you going in or coming out, and some times you can smell it in the store.

Weed is legal in Washington, just don’t smoke it outside

by KING 5 News and Associated Press

Posted on December 6, 2012  Updated today at 7:00 AM

It’s now legal to possess up to one ounce of marijuana in Washington state, but you can’t smoke it in public.

At least for now, Seattle Police plan to look the other way on the latter part until people get used to the new law.

People gathered for indoor and outdoor celebrations across the state at 12:01 a.m. to light up in celebration. A small group celebrated outside Seattle’s Hempfest Central.

At Seattle’s Space Needle, it had a feel of New Year’s Eve with marijuana users counting down to midnight and lighting up.

In Pictures: Facts about marijuana and the new law

Here’s the number you need to know before driving stoned

In an email to officers, the department told them they should only issue verbal warnings in cases of public marijuana use “until further notice.”

Police spokesman Jonah Spangenthal-Lee wrote on the SPD Blotter that officers will be advising people to take their weed inside.

Or as Spangenthal-Lee put it: “The police department believes that, under state law, you may responsibly get baked, order some pizzas and enjoy a `Lord of the Rings’ marathon in the privacy of your own home, if you want to.”

Once police start actually enforcing the law, it will be a $50 fine.

You can still get fired for smoking pot

Seattle PD marijuana blog gets national praise

Voters in Washington and Colorado last month made those the first states to decriminalize and regulate the recreational use of marijuana.

The law does not mean that you can grow or sell your own pot, which means there’s no legal way to obtain it in Washington. The state is working on implementing a system to change that.

The state’s medical marijuana law is not affected by the new law.

Idiots Electing Idiots

Comments For Idiots who believe in Democrats
11-29-2012

This is how stupid Democrats are, they believe that if you raise the price of gas, they will save money, but the savings are in Health, well if you are young and have a good job, than maybe you can save money, but the older you get your health penalties will go up, so where is the savings.

Does this mean that they are going to do the same thing with pollen, dust in the home and out side by getting rid of all trees and plants, and cover up any thing that could stir up dust, so there is no Oxygen, or no where for water to go except the rivers and Oceans not the water table.

Has any one found out who is going to profit on Obamacare, or who is going to profit if the price of gas goes up, the people who have stock in them, but at this time it is in some one else s name until retirement come along, and then it will come out that it is under their families name, or under a maiden name.

Lets take AARP, did they back Obamacare, are they really for American Citizens, or for them selves.

Senators push Obama to propose clean gasoline rules

By Timothy Gardner | Reuters
11-29-2012

WASHINGTON (Reuters) – A group of Democratic senators on Thursday will urge the Obama administration to propose rules to cut smog-forming emissions from gasoline, regulations opposed by many Republicans.

The lawmakers, led by Senator Kirsten Gillibrand from New York, want the Environmental Protection Agency to propose rules that would slash the sulfur content in gasoline this year and to finalize them next year.

“Tier 3 will substantially reduce harmful pollutants that are responsible for health-related ailments such as heart attacks, premature death, asthma attacks and other chronic lung diseases,” Gillibrand, a member of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, said in a letter obtained by Reuters that will be sent to President Barack Obama later on Thursday.

The rules, which had been expected to be proposed early in 2012, would require the sulfur content of gasoline to be cut to 10 parts per million, down from the current 30 ppm standard. Republican lawmakers have opposed the rules saying they would add costs to refiners and put jobs at risk.

The American Petroleum Institute, the main energy industry lobbying group, has said the rules could increase operating costs for refiners by up to 9 cents a gallon.

Ed Whitfield, a Republican in the House of Representatives, introduced a bill this year to stop the EPA from issuing the rules.

The EPA, however, has testified before Congress the price of cleaner gasoline would be closer to a penny a gallon, and even those costs would be greatly surpassed by savings in healthcare bills from reductions in lung-harming smog.

The senators quoted in the letter a study released in June by Navigant Consulting that said the rules could reduce health care costs by $5 billion or $6 billion a year by 2020 and double that by 2030.

The rules will also create over 30,000 new jobs over three years for installation and operation of equipment at the nation’s oil refineries, the senators said in the letter.

The letter signed by 13 senators include Dick Durbin, a close Obama ally from Illinois, Joe Lieberman, a Connecticut independent who caucuses with Democrats, and Oregon’s Jeff Merkley.

A health advocate hoped the pressure would push the clean gasoline rules forward.

“This letter should send a strong signal to EPA and the White House that this should be a high priority, not something stuck in the bowels of the bureaucracy,” said Frank O’Donnell, president of Clean Air Watch.

Before the election early this month, the Obama administration delayed several rules on emissions and oil and natural gas operations.

Now, the administration will likely roll out rules, many of which have been required by court orders, analysts say.

Put the Blame Where it Starts

Blame and Partners to Blame
11-26-2012

The blame starts with the Governments who regulate the Companies, then it goes to the Companies who ask for less regulations, then it ends up with the people who storm stores because they can not wait to buy the latest fad, you here it all the time, some thing new comes out and people start lining up the day before the store has the sale, and then try to breakdown the doors before they can be unlocked.

Today people think that every thing is free to the taking and not have to work for it, again where does the blame start, right back with the Government for giving free hand outs, so they think every thing is free to the taking, but when it goes wrong some one dies or they sue because the got caught. So we all better share the Blame.

It is not just Walmart this has happened to.

They talk about wages and no Union, lets say this about Unions in some Jobs, my wife was with the food service Union, she got what you call a good wage $10 dollars an hour, no medical, because she was only allowed 20 hours a week (part-time), the same thing walmart workers work and others if you are not a manager, at least they are not having to pay union dues out of what they make like she was, not much left to take home after paying the dues, actually I think the union-made more than she did, and they did not do the work.

Workers Killed a Man on Sunday

By Adam Clark Estes | The Atlantic Wire
11-25-2012

If there’s anything that Walmart didn’t need on Black Friday weekend, it was a jaw-dropping headline about somebody dying in their parking lot after a run-in with a couple of employees. Unfortunately for the big box retailer, that’s exactly what happened on early Sunday morning at a store in Lithonia, Georgia.

It’s a sad, simple story. An unidentified man allegedly stole two DVD players from the electronics department and left the store through the front door. Two Walmart employees and a contracted security guard chased him into the parking lot. A “physical altercation” took place, and apparently, the security guard put the man in a choke hold. Police arrived soon thereafter to find the three workers on top of the suspected shoplifter who was unresponsive and bleeding from his nose and mouth. The man was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

“No amount of merchandise is worth someone’s life,” said Walmart spokesperson Dianna Gee in a statement. “Associates are trained to disengage from situations that would put themselves or others at risk.” She added, “That being said, this is still an active investigation and we’re working with police to provide any assistance.” Walmart put the two employees on paid leave and fired the security guard.

Regardless of what happens at the end of that investigation, there’s no way Walmart is going to come out of this one looking good. It truly sounds like this was a horrible accident, the kind that makes it hard to point fingers or figure out what went wrong. However, this incident also happened as thousands of Walmart workers nationwide were protesting poor treatment by their employers. Are the two things related? Only insofar as it adds up to a ton of bad press for a company long known to promote mass hysteria on Black Friday weekend. It’s a problem that people are still dying at their stores, years after warnings signs like the Walmart employee who was trampled to death on Black Friday.

Thank God the new Black Friday trend is online shopping.

National Labor Relations Board, force all businesses to turn over workers’ phone numbers, emails and MORE

Comment By Bob L.
11-10-2012

People Complain about Cameras on public streets and Businesses being invasion of privacy, what would you say about the Government and Unions forcing Businesses to turn over your personal information to the Unions so they can call and harass you to join the Union, this would definitely be invasion of privacy, there is no reason for the Union or Government to have this information except for HARASSMENT AND INTIMIDATION. All States should be right to work states, it is not up to the Unions or the Government to say who can work and not work among Legal American Citizens.

If Obama and the  National Labor Relations Board get their way you will lose what privacy and be under Total Control of the Government and Unions, FREEDOM LOST.

WHO is running this Country?????

In this Picture I don’t see a President of the American People I see him as a very Corrupt Leader as Hitler was.

[This Aug. 4, 2010 file photo shows President Barack Obama standing with AFL-CIO Presidet Richard Trumka after he spoke about jobs and the economy at the AFL-CIO Executive Council in Washington. “There are things the president can do, and we’ll be expecting that leadership from President Obama,” Trumka told reporters after the election. Topping the list, for now, is a push to raise taxes on wealthy Americans and discouraging Obama from agreeing to any deal with Republicans.]

Labor: Tax the rich, don’t touch safety nets

By SAM HANANEL | Associated Press
11-10-2012

WASHINGTON (AP) — After two years of getting pummeled in Wisconsin, Indiana and other battleground states, leaders of the nation’s big labor unions were beaming on election night.

Labor’s massive voter turnout effort played a major role in helping President Barack Obama win Ohio, Nevada and Wisconsin, according to exit polls, and its leaders are now looking for a more liberal, pro-union agenda from the White House.

“There are things the president can do, and we’ll be expecting that leadership from President Obama,” AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka told reporters after the election.

Topping labor’s wish list — for now — is a push to raise taxes on wealthy Americans and discouraging Obama from agreeing to any deal with Republicans over the looming “fiscal cliff” that cuts into Social Security and Medicare.

But unions are also pressing for new measures that might help boost their sagging membership rolls. New investment in infrastructure would bring construction jobs for trade unions. Immigration reform — and a path to citizenship for 11 million undocumented Latino immigrants — would create a vast new pool of potential union members. And new regulations could remove some obstacles to union organizing.

Business groups that have vigorously opposed efforts to help unions draw new members say they will keep playing defense.

“My primary concern is in the regulations,” said Randel Johnson, vice president at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for labor issues. “We are afraid that on employment issues, the administration will stay firmly to the left and follow the lead of the unions.”

A new rule expected from the Labor Department would force companies to reveal relationships with so-called union-busting consulting companies even if the companies have no contact with workers. The National Labor Relations Board is expected to start work on a rule that would force businesses to turn over workers’ phone numbers, emails and shift times to union organizers.

The Obama administration might even consider a plan that would give an advantage in bidding on government contracts to companies that offer workers a higher living wage and generous benefits.

Unlike four years ago, unions have not made passage of card-check legislation a centerpiece of their agenda. The long-stalled measure that would require companies to recognize a union once more than half its eligible employees signed union cards instead of putting the question to a secret-ballot vote went nowhere in Obama’ first term, to the chagrin of many union activists.

Card check remains a dead end with Republicans in firm control of the House. Amy Dean, a former head of the AFL-CIO in California’s Silicon Valley, said unions are being more realistic about what they can get.

“They are all about strengthening the right to organize within the confines of what’s politically possible,” Dean said.

Unions showed they still wield considerable political muscle, despite declining membership and having to spend millions fighting efforts in dozens of state legislatures to curb their bargaining rights or limit their political clout. About 11.8 percent of all workers belong to a union; in the private sector union membership is only 6.9 percent.

Exit polls show Obama won 58 percent of voters from union households, compared with 40 percent for Republican Mitt Romney. That margin rose to 60 percent in Ohio and 66 percent in Wisconsin, where 1 of every 5 voters comes from a union household.

“We did deliver those states,” Trumka said. “Without organized labor, none of those would have been in the president’s column.”

Unions expected to spend big — more than $400 million — to help Obama and other union-friendly candidates at the federal, state and local levels. The country’s largest public workers union, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, says it spent about $100 million while the Service Employees International Union says it spent $85 million.

But labor’s election success hinged in large part on its extensive ground game. Thousands of volunteers made millions of personal contacts with union and nonunion voters. Labor also took advantage of new rules on super-PACs, funneling at least $77 million to the groups, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

An analysis by the Sunlight Foundation, which tracks money in politics, found that unions and other Democratic-leaning groups were far more successful than outside conservative groups in targeting money toward winning House and Senate campaigns. The SEIU spent more than 70 percent of its funds on winners, for example, while Karl Rove’s American Crossroads and its nonprofit affiliate had only a 6 percent success rate.

In addition to measures that may help increase union numbers, labor leaders are also expecting the Obama administration to issue more regulations targeting workplace safety. Proposed rules to protect workers from cancer-causing and lung-damaging silica, often found in the dust at construction sites and glass manufacturing operations, have languished at the White House for more than a year. The administration also has delayed new standards for combustible dust that can cause explosions.

Business groups have opposed the regulations, saying they overreach and would raise employers’ costs by millions of dollars.

Higher Education, More Destruction of America

American Education Today
11-05-2012

Education means party, party party, drink more beer sit and watch shows that show how stupid they are, Like, Spongebob Squarepants, He can be easily fooled, you can tell him any thing and he will believe you, Homer Simpson, loves Beer, TV, Donuts, Beer, TV and his stupidity, Daffy Duck is full of himself. He thinks he is smart, good-looking, and Americans sit and watch this garbage and think it is educational and what their kids should watch.

The real horror to this is that America is going to look like a war zone in the next Twenty year or less, and our kids and grand-kids will have no place to live, let alone have a job, Is what the Future is going to be around the world and here if people keep letting the Government and Special Interest Groups tell you what to do and who to Elect:?

Really, this is the real decay of this Country from lack of putting money where it belongs.

Here is a good example of:
One: money poorly spent by not planing for the future in the past, this is what you get.
Two: allowing homes to be built to close to the Beach or on a Flood Plain, and any one who does should get nothing for their Stupidity, for they knew that it could happen.
Three: the State, City, or County should never allow any permits to be issued. (Greed is Why, for Taxes, not Safety)

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Take Global Warming, Obamacare, that is not going to destroy the world or this Country, People will through Greed for MONEY, that is what this is all about just another tax on the people for profit by the Rich.

But like I said at the beginning, that is what Education is all about today, Drinking Booze, thinking about your selves and Watching Cartoons and thinking that will solve all the problems of the world.

We don’t need Testing, we need in School Education at School not at home, if the Teachers can not teach in school then get rid of them and get people who will, if they go on strike get rid of them and get teachers who want to teach at SCHOOL.

Unless more jobs of all kinds are brought back, there will never be a time when this Country sees the days of the past when most people were working.

Some Thing Looks A Little Fishy Before Election

Comment  Fishy Indeed
10-21-2012

There is some thing rotten going on Before the Presidential Election, it seems that since Obama is starting to lose points gas prices in swing states are lower than Average then other states, Unemployment is dropping, some where some one is Cooking the Books so it looks like Obama is doing a good job at the last-minute, he has not done any thing in Three and a Half years so why now before the Election.

If any one believes this, then they will get every thing they deserve, Higher Gas Prices, More Taxes on the Middle Class by putting them on Things and Programs that the Middle and poor Class Need or Use, it is what you call Buyer Beware, in this case it Voter Beware, and falls under dirty politics.

It all seems to be only in the swing states, shake your right hand and Stab you in the back with the Left, better known as his Czars.

Swing-State Gas Prices Head Obama’s Way

U.S.News & World Report LP
By Rick Newman | U.S.News & World Report LP
Fri, Oct 19, 2012

Gas prices have been unexpectedly high this fall, due to supply shortages and volatile oil prices. They finally seem to be drifting down, however, which could obviously help President Obama if the trend continues up until Election Day.

[PHOTOS: Quirky Ways to Guess the Next President]

An even bigger factor, overlooked by many political analysts, could be gas prices in key swing states. Data compiled by AAA shows that the national average, which has fallen by nine cents over the past week, is $3.72 per gallon. Gas prices are lower than the national average in eight of the 11 most hotly contested states, and higher in only three. Here are the eight swing states with gas prices below the national average, according to AAA:

Virginia (average price for regular unleaded: $3.55 per gallon)

North Carolina ($3.67)

Florida ($3.67)

Ohio ($3.45)

Iowa ($3.63)

Michigan ($3.58)

Wisconsin ($3.62)

Colorado ($3.68)

Gas prices, of course, are just one of many factors that determine whether people feel like they’re getting ahead or falling behind. But gas prices have an outsized effect on consumer psyches, depressing confidence when they’re going up and boosting contentment when they’re going down.

[RELATED: Jobless Rate Improves in Several Swing States]

Nationwide, gas prices are still about $.25 per gallon higher than they were a year ago. But many voters seem to realize that gas prices are determined by the level of conflict in the Middle East, demand in faraway places like China, and other factors no president can control. Obama’s main challenge is persuading voters that economic conditions, while far from ideal, are consistently getting better.

Another trend helping Obama is falling unemployment rates in 9 of 11 swing states. Four of those states are doing better than the national average on both gas prices and unemployment: Virginia, Ohio, Wisconsin and Iowa. Of those, gas prices are lowest in Ohio, at an average of $3.45 per gallon, while unemployment there is 7 percent, compared with 7.8 percent nationally. Iowa has the lowest swing-state unemployment rate, at 5.2 percent, with gas prices at $3.63 per gallon.

Nevada, is the worst of the swing states, with unemployment at 11.8 percent and gas prices at $3.94 per gallon–due in part to recent unexpected refinery shutdowns in neighboring California.

[SEE ALSO: Tough New Gas-Mileage Rules Are Good for Drivers]

Obama, needless to say, must do a lot more to win the swing states than sit back and hope gas prices keep falling. But if they continue to drift down, it will make it easier for Obama to convince voters that they’re doing better under his leadership.

By most accounts, whoever wins the election needs to win Ohio. If Obama carried Ohio, he’d need only a couple of additional swing states to assure victory. His Republican opponent Mitt Romney, by contrast, needs a stronger showing among swing states in order to win the White House. High gas prices are one of the everyday hardships Romney frequently bashes Obama for, but his case may be getting weaker. With gas prices generally trending upward over time, many drivers may consider the new normal to be around $3.50 or so–with anything below that feeling like a bonus.

U.S. Has Not Learned Their Lesson With Fast And Furious

Obama Administration has not learned their lesson, here they are arming another group to kill Americans.

Our Allies May Be Arming the Next Osama bin Laden

By John Hudson | The Atlantic Wire
Mon, Oct 15, 2012

For months, the U.S. has been helping Arab allies coordinate arms shipments to rebel fighters in Syria. Unfortunately, most of those weapons are going to radical Islamists instead of secular opposition groups.  According to a classified government report uncovered by The New York Times’ David Sanger, the flood of Saudi and Qatari weapons into Syria is strengthening the hand of extremist groups in the country, including those with ties to Al Qaeda. “The opposition groups that are receiving the most of the lethal aid are exactly the ones we don’t want to have it,” a U.S. official says. Not only is there the fear that the weapons could bolster anti-American insurgent groups, but these extremist groups could hold sway in a future Syrian government should President Bashar al-Assad be removed.  “The longer this goes on, the more likely those groups will gain strength,” a Middle East diplomat tells the Times.

It’s the sort of dark irony reminiscent of the Soviet war in Afghanistan, in which an influx of foreign militants and weaponry to the mujahideen gave rise to blowback, and even provided a springboard for more ambitious extremists like Osama bin Laden. As it stands, the U.S. is not sending arms directly to Syrian opposition groups, it’s reportedly just helping Saudi Arabia and Qatar do it with lighter weapons like rifles and grenades. But this latest assessment, which Sanger says has been delivered to President Obama, calls into question the White House strategy of indirect intervention.

That’s not to say that the alternatives are great. So far, 25,000 Syrians have been killed in the conflict, the borders of NATO ally Turkey have been threatened and the opposition has been badly outgunned. But no one can say with any certainty whether giving more sophisticated weaponry to the opposition would allow rebels to overthrow the regime or simply increase the bloodshed.

While the Obama administration’s handling of the Syrian civil war has become an issue in the presidential campaign, it’s not clear what Mitt Romney would do differently if elected. Last Monday, he told an audience at the Virginia Military Institute that he would give the rebels who “share our values” the weapons they need to “defeat Assad’s tanks, helicopters and fighter jets,” which suggests he may approve the transfer of antiaircraft and antitank systems.

Obviously, no one thinks these Islamist groups “share our values,” but it’s proven extremely difficult to ensure that fundamentalists don’t get their hands on these weapons. It’s not clear exactly how many foreign jihadists have entered the fray, but last month, the United Nations’ International Commission of Inquiry said it believed there was “an increasing presence of foreign elements, including Jihadist militants, in Syria” who have been radicalizing the rebels. Others say the influx of foreign militants has been marginal. Emile Hokayem, a senior fellow at the International Institute for Strategic Studies, told CNN “They are realistically about 2,000-3,000 in number. Foreign fighter does not equate with jihadi. Not everyone is driven by jihadi ideology.”

Is the White House cooking the books to Look Good?

What Timing, Could not have been better Planned

10-06-2012
Is  the White House cooking the books?????

I would have to agree that they are, because it seems that he did bad on the Debate, and not saying that these people ran out of jobless benefits would be a strong possibility, then along with a short time before the Election and seeing what this Administration has spread dirty politics, I would not put it past them to try any thing at the last-minute to make him look good, but what about after, will it go forward or go backward again with Taxes the you are not seeing.

This Administration has not told the truth since day one, they have done more behind closed-door skullduggery to pass things that they did not want you to know until it was passed.

Same President NO change.

=======================================================================

By Abby Ellin | ABC News
10-05-2012

The U.S. unemployment rate unexpectedly fell to a near four-year low of 7.8 percent in September, the lowest since President Obama took office. Most economists were expecting a slight rise, so the number has raised suspicions that the White House might be cooking the books ahead of the election next month.

Jack Welch, the former CEO of General Electric, quickly came out with a tweet, voicing his suspicion. On his Twitter account he accused the Obama administration of manipulating U.S. employment data for political advantage.

“Unbelievable jobs numbers…these Chicago guys will do anything…can’t debate so change numbers,” Welch, 76, and a Republican, said.

Other GOP members also blasted the numbers.

“In regards to today’s Jobs report-I agree with former GE CEO Jack Welch, Chicago style politics is at work here,” Florida Rep. Allen West wrote.

“No, there’s nothing at all curious about the last jobs report diving to 7.8 percent unemployment before the election,” said Keith Urbahn, Donald Rumsfeld’s former chief of staff.

(To be fair, not all GOP members felt something underhanded was going on. As former Bush White House aide Tony Fratto put it, ” BLS is not manipulating data. Evidence of such would be a scandal of enormous proportions & loss of credibility.”)

That is pretty much the sentiment among economists.

“I would be very skeptical of any claims the job statistics are manipulated,” Gary Burtless, an economist at the Brookings Institution, in Washington, D.C., told ABC News. “If they were, the administration’s record so far in 2012 would undoubtedly look a lot brighter.” Indeed, as Ezra Klein points out in the Washington Post, the drop is a mere three-tenths of one percent, from 8.1 percent to 7.8 percent-not exactly a reason to crack open the Veuve Clicquot.

What’s more, Burless said it’s uncharacteristic of the Obama administration to lie about something like this. “Richard Nixon was notorious for distrusting the BLS, and he probably managed to frighten some long-time BLS employees,” said Burtless. “But I have not heard any persuasive reports of statistical manipulation in the BLS, even during the Nixon administration. So it would be astounding if President Obama has been more successful along those lines than Nixon managed to be.”

Guy La Bas, a managing director, fixed income strategy, at Janney Montgomery Scott, a Philadelphia brokerage firm, agreed. “I don’t want to simply blast Welch since he’s a very respected manager,” he told ABC News in an email. “In this instance, he issued an off-the-cuff remark which I highly doubt is true, but that doesn’t negate the value of his business opinions.”

But, he added, “The Bureau of Labor Statistics, which conducts the monthly jobs survey is a non-partisan group of hard-working people that have the public trust. Considering this trust and the controls imposed on their processes, the chances that the BLS actively “manipulated” data are extremely low, even if some of the numbers underlying today’s jobs report appear surprising. In my discussions with statistical organizations, political officials receive information about economic releases only after the numbers have been calculated, so there’s no opportunity for the White House-or anyone else-to alter the results.”

Obama’s Promoting Bullies In U.S.

10-05-2012

Bullying Criminal, but not when the President and Mrs. Vice-President Obama Promote it.

And they are talking about kids Bullying, now you have a President and his Wife, PROMOTING it.

Mr. Obama is Dividing the Country, Mrs. President Obama is doing the rest by turning String Beans against heavy-set people, they don’t under stand that one size DOES not fit all, every one is built different, some skinny turn fat, and some fat turn skinny, and some built that way from birth, tell an elephant or a hippo that they are fat, or a giraffe that he is to skinny and has a long neck, you going to punish them for that.

This is the type of YUPPY that thinks every thing centers around him, and you better do what he says because every one is supposed to look like him. This is typical of people to-day in this Country, they don’t care if a person has a health problem, because medication can put weight on, a medical problem like diabetes can add weight, and don’t say over weight causes it, I know people who have never had a weight problem that have diabetes, so don’t go there.

‘Bully’ Viewer Stands by Critical Email to Overweight TV Anchor

By Katie Kindelan | ABC News Blogs
10-04-2012

He wrote an email so critical of his local TV anchorwoman’s weight that it caused her to deliver an on-air response that made national headlines.

Yet, Kenneth Krause, the Wisconsin man behind the infamous email to Jennifer Livingston, a morning anchor with WKBT-TV in La Crosse, Wis., is not backing down, even as his public profile continues to grow.

A photo of Krause’s posing behind a mountain bike in a tank top, helmet and bulging biceps is making the rounds after appearing on the Facebook page of Brian Simpson, a local radio host and friend of Livingston’s who invited Krause to appear on his show.

“Once again, I’d like to invite Kenneth to come on our show, The Morning Sickness on 95.7 The Rock, and talk about his hatred for people who are a bit overweight. I sure hope his wife, Michele, doesn’t pack on a few pounds … who knows what he’d do to her,” Simpson wrote on his page.

Krause, who, according to local media, is a personal injury attorney, has reportedly declined that request. Attempts to reach him today by ABC News were not successful.

He did, however, offer Livingston, a mother of three who acknowledged being overweight – even obese – in her four-minute, on-air editorial address Tuesday morning in which she also called Krause a “bully,” help in losing weight.

” … I hope she will finally take advantage of a rare and golden opportunity to influence the health and psychological well-being of Coulee Region children by transforming herself for all of her viewers to see over the next year,” reads the statement submitted by Krause to WKBT after Livingston’s editorial aired. “To that end, I would be absolutely pleased to offer Jennifer any advice or support she would be willing to accept.”

READ MORE: Livingston’s Famous Brother Stands by Her Side

Krause’s email to Livingston – in which he questioned her example as a role model for young girls because of her weight and asked her to “reconsider” her responsibility as a “local public personality” – went viral after her husband and fellow WKBT anchor, Mike Thompson, posted it to his Facebook page. Thompson’s Facebook page and the story posted by WKTB on its website have each received thousands of comments. Videos of the on-air editorial posted to YouTube have been viewed million of times.

They appeared on “Good Morning America” earlier this week, questioning Krause’s own character for criticizing Livingston without knowing the facts.

“He doesn’t know that she has a condition, a thyroid condition, that makes it harder for her to lose weight. He doesn’t know any of that,” Thompson said. “He just decided to attack her for no reason.”

Livingston, a tri-athlete and a runner, says she would like to lose weight, but not because of Krause.

“I would like to get healthier for my own reasons. It doesn’t really have to do with him,” Livingston told “GMA” in a new interview Thursday. “It’s not about him anymore.

“There are a lot of people out there who are so supportive in ways that are not negative and I will reach out to those people,” she said. “I don’t know what, if any, help he [Krause] could provide me.”

The outpouring of support that Livingston has received since she publicly defended herself against Krause’s comments has turned her story into a tale seemingly destined for Hollywood, and one of the people supporting her could help make that happen.

Livingston’s brother, Ron Livingston, is an actor famous for his roles in “Office Space” and “Sex and the City,” among others.

“I got a text from him first thing this morning saying, ‘Way to go sissy. I’m so proud of you,'” she told “GMA.”

Jobs Not On The Unemployed List

Comment for lost farm land and jobs.
09-30-2012

A lot of this was once Farm Land and jobs, and without jobs, you have home less, home less can’t buy these homes that were once Farm Land, and the home less affects every one, and homes built on farm land means the Farm Land is gone forever, NOW if farm land is lost for YUPPY homes, where will your Food and Dairy products come from, SAME PLACE THAT YOUR OIL COMES FROM.

Obama is quick to say what he has done as to people he thinks he has put back to work, but how about the ones that this Administration has put out of Business along with Environmentalists, that are raising prices in the Grocery stores and making it to where these are providing food shortages.

Prices go up while Income goes Down, this also goes for the farmers profit and loss, not just for the Average American Worker.

If it is not Governments Taxing Farms out of Business, it is government regulations, ether way, once this land is lost it can never come back, because Governments will have it plowed under for more homes.

Obama is Shaking a lot of hands of Foreign Governments and making them big promises, BUT How ABOUT the American people who have to give up their freedom for His Promises to Foreign Countries, When are these Governments here in this country going to under stand that it is this Country that they were ELECTED to protect and make sure that jobs stay here.

Calif dairies going broke due to feed, milk prices

By GOSIA WOZNIACKA | Associated Press
09-29-2012

HANFORD, Calif. (AP) — In nearly six decades of running a dairy in central California, Mary Cameron made a name for herself in a male-dominated industry: She led several dairy organizations and was honored as Outstanding Dairy Producer of the Year.

But the 82-year-old Cameron — who still drives a tractor and supervises her Hanford dairy — is on the brink of losing her life’s work. She can no longer pay the bills. Her bank has classified her loan as distressed. And she can’t afford enough feed for her 900 milking cows and 1,000 heifers.

“I have been in this business for 57 years and I have never been in financial trouble like I am right now,” said Cameron, who runs the Atsma-Cameron Dairy with her two sons. “I’m on the verge of bankruptcy. It’s horrible and inexcusable.”

Cameron is not alone. Across California, the nation’s largest dairy state, dozens of dairy operators large and small have filed for bankruptcy in recent months and many teeter on the edge of insolvency. Others have sold their herds or sent them to slaughter and given up on the business.

Experts say California dairymen face a double whammy: exorbitant feed costs and lower milk prices. The Midwest drought has led to corn and soybean costs increasing by more than 50 percent this summer, stressing dairymen from Wisconsin and Minnesota to Missouri. But in California, milk prices have also lagged behind those in the rest of the nation, exacerbating the crisis.

And while milk revenues in California have soared to over $7.5 billion in 2011, making milk the top agricultural commodity, higher revenues mean little, farmers say, because it costs so much more to produce the milk.

“I don’t think there’s a milk producer in the state who is profitable right now,” said Michael Marsh, CEO of Western United Dairymen.

Since 2008, California has lost nearly 300 dairies, with 1,668 remaining as of January, according to the California Department of Food and Agriculture. There are no official estimates on how many dairies have shuttered in 2012 — but interviews with dairymen and experts indicate several hundred dairies could be in danger of going under.

“It’s been like a floodgate,” said Riley Walter, a Fresno-based agricultural bankruptcy lawyer who has worked on 58 cases of dairies in financial trouble this past year — from bankruptcies, to liquidations, to operations taken over by receivers.

“Recently, I had two men over 60 years old who broke down and sobbed in court,” Walter said. “You would be surprised how much these men care about their cows.”

At the Overland Stock Yard in Hanford, owner Peter Belezzuoli said he sees two to three dairymen selling their entire herd every month, compared to about four per year before the crisis. More cows are being sold for slaughter, he said. And the value of dairy cattle has plummeted by as much as 50 percent in the past five years.

“It’s no different than the housing industry, where people lost all the equity,” he said. “People have the same cow, but now it doesn’t have the same value.”

Economists say milk and feed prices always fluctuate — but it’s the margin between the two that counts, and how far apart the thin years are.

Only three years ago, falling milk prices forced many dairymen to go under. The current crisis, dairymen say, came too quickly. Many still have unpaid loans, have exhausted their equity, and can’t get new loans.

For Cameron, who grew up washing barns and feeding cows, costs of production vastly surpass revenues. She’s losing $40,000 every month, she said.

Her parents emigrated from Holland in the 1920’s and started a dairy in California’s Central Valley. After college, Cameron followed in their footsteps: Her office wall is filled with awards and news articles touting her successful dairy career.

Today, Cameron owes $7.5 million to her banks and creditors, and has run out of cash for feed. To make ends meet, she has sold cows for beef and fed her herd less grain — but that means milk production is down and so is revenue.

Cameron recently saw a bankruptcy lawyer and may have to sell her entire herd and dairy.

“It just makes me sad,” Cameron said. “This is a world I love, this is my life.”

For her woes, Cameron blames state officials’ decision to keep milk prices lower than those in other states.

California has had its own milk pricing system for dairy since the 1930’s, separate from that operated by the federal government in other states. The California Department of Food and Agriculture sets minimum prices that must be paid to farmers in the state for five classes of milk.

In recent years, California’s prices tended to be lower than in other states. In 2011 and 2012, California’s price for milk used to make cheese was frequently $2 or more lower per hundredweight of milk than in the rest of the nation.

CDFA spokesman Steve Lyle said the reason for lower prices is that milk supply exceeds demand in California.

The glut forces California producers to sell much of their milk to makers of products such as cheese, which pays much less than selling milk for drinking. And since much of the milk is sold out of state, the price farmers receive is lower to reflect higher transportation costs.

Several dairy organizations filed suit in August, alleging that CDFA failed to follow the law when it refused to increase the minimum price of milk sold for cheese to bring it in line with prices around the country.

Economists say the market itself will lift prices: as more dairymen go out of business, fewer cows will produce less milk, which in turn will lead prices to go up.

For Cameron, higher prices would mean she could keep her dairy. When she dies, she wants her children to scatter her ashes in the corrals.

“That’s where I belong,” she said, “…that’s where I’ve been all my life.”

Move over World War 1 and 2, Great Depression and WW 3 is Comming

A comment for today’s COWARDS (a person who lacks courage in facing danger, difficulty, opposition, pain, etc.) you have disgraced this Country.
09-27-2012

Has this Country learned any thing in the last Ninety Years, it does not look like it has learned any thing but how to be greedy and want more, and self-centered, this Country and the World  is COMING apart and all you can do is complain about a call over some stupid Sports Game, building another Sports Arena, or admiring your self in the mirror.

When is this Country going to get a back bone and stop letting Politicians, Lobbyists, Environmentalist, Special Interest Groups, and Religious Groups tell you what you are going to wear, what you are going to buy, what Health Insurance to buy, and how long you are allowed to live.

Look back 47 years, a song Eve of Destruction   http://youtu.be/DhEwpRcPozE written by P. F. Sloan in 1965 and song by Barry McGuire, has any one learned any thing from what that song is about, NO, this Country means nothing to the American Citizen any more, it only stands for a Free meal that you don’t have to work for, free Health Insurance that some one else pays for, wait what do you mean that some one else will pay for, well if you fall in that poverty level and you don’t have the money, then who is going to end up paying, SOME ONE ELSE (that’s Obamacare, don’t have an income, then some one else ends up paying), Spending Money that you don’t have,  like Building Sports Arenas, Eyesores they call scenic get a way’s, and then let them fall apart, wasting money on speed bumps on roadways, race tracks at intersections, planting Trees and shrubs down the middle of streets,  and then saying it is for public safety, and the American People say OK, not NO, and for get about Americas Safety and their Children’s, and if this is not a greedy and lazy country today than I don’t know what is.

Do you want Americas Safety, if not than keep cutting our military, and open the doors wide to terrorism. Here is a Question: How would you like to see your child or Grand Child sodomized and raped and drug down the street alive and then killed in front of you, AND you can not do any thing to stop it but stand there and watch it, WELL this is exactly what you are doing by doing nothing and letting the Government and the Courts run your life and tell you what to do.

It is up to you, a free Country or a Country that has a Dictator Government (almost there now), what happens if Obama gets another four years and he has changed the Constitution around to where he can run as long as he wants, would you be up for that, this could be any one if you let it, but this is Americans Government Not the other way around. And if you think that I am for Romney for get it I don’t trust ether one of them, But I can see what Obama has done to this country already, and that is not what we need, more destruction of America and more freedom lost.

Now you have the up coming of World War Three or the Grand Daddy of  Depressions, you can take your pick because you will probably have both and you will not be able to stop it because you did not care when you had the chance, you just turned your back and let this Government do what ever they wanted.

You have Presidents that care more about OTHER Countries and their aid than they do HERE, they don’t want to work with any one, they would rather be Bullies of the World and change how they live and their Religion, which is sacred in this Country, but no, they can not keep their nose out of OTHER Countries religion or how they live, and now they are doing the same thing here in this Country, if they keep it up here they lose every thing that our Ancestors fought for.

Is Obamacare Going to Be Assisting In This Atrocity To Americans

How to Stop Hospitals From Killing Us

The Wall Street Journal
By Marty Makary | The Wall Street Journal
Fri, Sep 21, 2012

When there is a plane crash in the U.S., even a minor one, it makes headlines. There is a thorough federal investigation, and the tragedy often yields important lessons for the aviation industry. Pilots and airlines thus learn how to do their jobs more safely.

The world of American medicine is far deadlier: Medical mistakes kill enough people each week to fill four jumbo jets. But these mistakes go largely unnoticed by the world at large, and the medical community rarely learns from them. The same preventable mistakes are made over and over again, and patients are left in the dark about which hospitals have significantly better (or worse) safety records than their peers.

As doctors, we swear to do no harm. But on the job we soon absorb another unspoken rule: to overlook the mistakes of our colleagues. The problem is vast. U.S. surgeons operate on the wrong body part as often as 40 times a week. Roughly a quarter of all hospitalized patients will be harmed by a medical error of some kind. If medical errors were a disease, they would be the sixth leading cause of death in America—just behind accidents and ahead of Alzheimer’s. The human toll aside, medical errors cost the U.S. health-care system tens of billions a year. Some 20% to 30% of all medications, tests and procedures are unnecessary, according to research done by medical specialists, surveying their own fields. What other industry misses the mark this often?

It does not have to be this way. A new generation of doctors and patients is trying to achieve greater transparency in the health-care system, and new technology makes it more achievable than ever before.

I encountered the disturbing closed-door culture of American medicine on my very first day as a student at one of Harvard Medical School’s prestigious affiliated teaching hospitals. Wearing a new white medical coat that was still creased from its packaging, I walked the halls marveling at the portraits of doctors past and present. On rounds that day, members of my resident team repeatedly referred to one well-known surgeon as “Dr. Hodad.” I hadn’t heard of a surgeon by that name. Finally, I inquired. “Hodad,” it turned out, was a nickname. A fellow student whispered: “It stands for Hands of Death and Destruction.”

Stunned, I soon saw just how scary the works of his hands were. His operating skills were hasty and slipshod, and his patients frequently suffered complications. This was a man who simply should not have been allowed to touch patients. But his bedside manner was impeccable (in fact, I try to emulate it to this day). He was charming. Celebrities requested him for operations. His patients worshiped him. When faced with excessive surgery time and extended hospitalizations, they just chalked up their misfortunes to fate.

Dr. Hodad’s popularity was no aberration. As I rotated through other hospitals during my training, I learned that many hospitals have a “Dr. Hodad” somewhere on staff (sometimes more than one). In a business where reputation is everything, doctors who call out other doctors can be targeted. I’ve seen whistleblowing doctors suddenly assigned to more emergency calls, given fewer resources or simply badmouthed and discredited in retaliation. For me, I knew the ramifications if I sounded the alarm over Dr. Hodad: I’d be called into the hospital chairman’s office, a dread scenario if I ever wanted a job. So, as a rookie, I kept my mouth shut. Like the other trainees, I just told myself that my 120-hour weeks were about surviving to become a surgeon one day, not about fixing medicine’s culture.

Hospitals as a whole also tend to escape accountability, with excessive complication rates even at institutions that the public trusts as top-notch. Very few hospitals publish statistics on their performance, so how do patients pick one? As an informal exercise throughout my career, I’ve asked patients how they decided to come to the hospital where I was working (Georgetown, Johns Hopkins, D.C. General Hospital, Harvard and others). Among their answers: “Because you’re close to home”; “You guys treated my dad when he died”; “I figured it must be good because you have a helicopter.” You wouldn’t believe the number of patients who have told me that the deciding factor for them was parking.

There is no reason for patients to remain in the dark like this. Change can start with five relatively simple—but crucial—reforms.

Online Dashboards

Every hospital should have an online informational “dashboard” that includes its rates for infection, readmission (what we call “bounce back”), surgical complications and “never event” errors (mistakes that should never occur, like leaving a surgical sponge inside a patient). The dashboard should also list the hospital’s annual volume for each type of surgery that it performs (including the percentage done in a minimally invasive way) and patient satisfaction scores.

A survey of New Yorkers found that approximately 60% look up a restaurant’s “performance ratings” before going there. If you won’t sit down for a meal before checking Zagat’s or Yelp, why shouldn’t you be able to do the same thing when your life is at stake?

Nothing makes hospitals shape up more quickly than this kind of public reporting. In 1989, the first year that New York’s hospitals were required to report heart-surgery death rates, the death rate by hospital ranged from 1% to 18%—a huge gap. Consumers were finally armed with useful data. They could ask: “Why have a coronary artery bypass graft operation at a place where you have a 1-in-6 chance of dying compared with a hospital with a 1-in-100 chance of dying?”

Instantly, New York heart hospitals with high mortality rates scrambled to improve; death rates declined by 83% in six years. Management at these hospitals finally asked staff what they had to do to make care safer. At some hospitals, the surgeons said they needed anesthesiologists who specialized in heart surgery; at others, nurse practitioners were brought in. At one hospital, the staff reported that a particular surgeon simply wasn’t fit to be operating. His mortality rate was so high that it was skewing the hospital’s average. Administrators ordered him to stop doing heart surgery. Goodbye, Dr. Hodad.

Safety Culture Scores

Imagine that a surgeon is about to make an incision to remove fluid from a patient’s right lung. Suddenly, a nurse breaks the silence. “Wait. Are we doing the right or the left chest? Because it says here left, but that looks like the right side.” The surgery was, indeed, supposed to be on the left lung, but an intern had prepped the wrong side. I was that doctor, and that nurse saved us all from making a terrible error. It isn’t every hospital where that nurse would have felt confident speaking up—but it’s this sort of cultural factor that is so important to safety.

Where Is All Are Tax Money Going

This for all who vote and pass taxes and not knowing where they are going!

Sept, 12- 2012

Does any one care where ALL YOUR taxes go that are passed every year?

I don’t know about you, but I would like to know just where all this money is going, because I can not see any progress any where around that they were put on the ballot for, take for example, School Maintenance, why is it every time that they ask for money to maintain crumbling Schools, it ends up that they always need to build new ones to replace one that are falling apart, WHERE is all this maintenance bond money being spent?

It seems that every time a maintenance  bond is passed Teachers go on strike for more money, it sounds like it goes to Teachers, Administrators, and Unions, but not to maintain the School that it was suppose to go to.

This also goes for the States, Counties, Cities, and the Federal Government, where is all this Tax Money that they are collecting from the American Citizens going to, they keep saying that our highways are falling apart, but what are they doing about it, nothing but wanting to make make them Bigger and wider Highways, if they keep this up, this country will be nothing but one sheet of Asphalt and Concrete, and at this rate you might just as well for get about Global Warming and water conservation, because Asphalt and Concrete will drain any water right to the Oceans if they are still in existence, because Asphalt and Concrete will be one big radiant heater, and if you want heat you got it.

How much Tax money is Exported every year to rebuild Foreign Countries, then from this we have to borrow money to replace what they have spent, and in the mean time our Country is Crumbling, SO Where is all tax money going, I sure can not see any improvement in this Countries Infrastructure.

I see a lot of money being spent on things for Special Interest Groups and lobbyist like Stadiums, Eyesore land marks that down the road get torn down for progress, Turtle Crossings, and now Over passes for wildlife, but not for where it suppose to go.

And now they want to waste Money on telling schools on what kids are going to eat at school, or lose funding.

http://shine.yahoo.com/parenting/pb-38-j-worst-weapon-kid-bring-school-215000284.html

http://news.yahoo.com/mixed-grades-healthy-school-lunch-rules-062652346.html

And remember back an article about students were not allowed to bring a lunch from home because they HAD TO buy the school lunch because of Obama’s new policy, school had to follow or lose funding.

And to go along with these articles, WHY are there more medical problems today then there were years back, for one, Doctors were Doctors, today they seem to be more interested in money then being a Doctors, look at how many of them have gone in to Private Practice, more money, then they want to know why Insurance has gotten so expensive, it does not take a brain surgeon to figure that out, or does it, it makes me wonder with the Education and mentality of the people in the last Thirty years, it seems that they are being brain washed from birth. You know that is not far from the truth, just look how much has been removed from school books for testing and not teaching.

Well they say that Alcohol and Smoking can cause birth defects and health problems, but why are they not talking about the affects of Prescription Drugs on Birth and Health problems that they have today, they do about Illegal Drugs.

How one woman giving away free water bottles turned into a viral, political protest

Eric Pfeiffer, Yahoo! News The Sideshow
09-06-2012

Dana Crow-Smith first got into trouble with Arizona police when she stepped onto public property while handing out free bottles of water during a July arts event. But the Phoenix resident now says she was expressing her Christian faith and has enlisted the help of at least one national organization that is threatening to sue the city.

Police issued Crow-Smith a warning, saying she needed a vendor’s permit after handing out the water during a First Friday Art Walk on July 6. A Phoenix city memo states that Crow-Smith violated an ordinance requiring permits for “vending, selling, serving, displaying, offering for sale or giving away goods, wares, or merchandise or food from either a mobile vending unit or a mobile food vending unit.”

“I don’t even think it’s about religious beliefs, I think anybody should be able to give away water, on the sidewalk to anybody. It’s hot, and it’s a nice thing to do,” Crow-Smith said in an August interview with a local ABC affiliate.

The Arizona Republic reports that an online protest campaign has gained steam since the incident was first reported.

A conservative group called We Like Small Government first posted about Crow-Smith on its Facebook page, which generated several thousand likes and was subsequently shared across the conservative blogosphere.

And now, Virginia-based Christian-rights organization The Rutherford Institute has formally taken up her cause, threatening to sue the city if Phoenix officials do not apologize to Crow-Smith.

In a letter to Phoenix city officials, Rutherford attorney Doug Drury says the ordinance does not apply to Crow-Smith, since she was giving away the water bottles for free. “Ms. Crow-Smith’s conduct was a manifestation of her sincerely held religious beliefs,” the letter adds.

However, Phoenix officials say they are not likely to change their position, noting they only gave Crow-Smith a warning rather than a fine.

Taxpayers Subsidize CEO Pay, Report Says
By Susanna Kim | ABC News
08-15-2012

The Institute for Policy Studies, a self-described “progressive multi-issue think tank,” analyzed the link between tax loopholes and excessive executive compensation and concluded that the loopholes created an “uneven playing field” between large companies and small businesses and led to lost tax revenue.

The latest edition of the institute’s annual Executive Excess compensation study found that in 2011, 26 CEOs received more in compensation than their companies paid in taxes, and that the four major tax loopholes contributing to excessive executive pay cost taxpayers about $14.4 billion a year.

“The report is timely at a time when the tax debate is so intense in this country,” Sarah Anderson, the institute’s global economy project director and the report’s co-author, told ABC News. “Some leaders are saying we need to reduce the corporate tax burden even more while major companies are taking advantage of loopholes to lower their tax bill.”

The report critiqued the major tax loopholes, including the preferential treatment of “carried interest” income for hedge fund managers. “Carried interest” income can be taxed as capital gains – at 15 percent tops – instead of at 35 percent, the top income tax rate. The Congressional Budget Office‘s projected estimate for “carried interest” income – revenue from investment income or dividends – for 2012 to 2021 was $21.4 billion.

Companies can deduct executive pay as a business expense, just as they do inventory and appreciation. Because of a tax rule enacted in the early 1990s that limited the amount of cash that could be deducted to $1 million, corporations have increasingly paid executives in stock options. Corporations can exempt stock option compensation, and other performance-based pay, from taxation.

William McBride, chief economist with the Tax Foundation, a conservative-leaning nonpartisan think tank, said this makes sense, because stock options are speculative compensation.

“They’re worth nothing unless they’re in the money,” McBride told ABC News. “It wouldn’t be fair to tax someone for getting paid an option that doesn’t have any real value until it has been exercised.”

Steven Balsam, an accounting professor at the Fox School of Business at Temple University and who published a study earlier this week for the Economic Policy Institute, “Taxes and Executive Compensation,” said from a business viewpoint, “it’s an expense, just like any other person’s salary.”

Others defend performance-based compensation for high-performing executives who have overseen companies with increasing earnings and stock prices.

Balsam said it was unlikely that boards would limit executive pay even if their pay was not tax deductible.

Anderson, who co-wrote the report, said that company boards that might choose to forfeit the deduction and continue paying high compensation packages “are stacked with executives from other firms that have a vested interest in maintaining the status quo.

“However, we need to keep chipping away at the myth that massive payouts are necessary to attract talented managers,” she said. “Having a meaningful deductibility cap would send the right message, and at least taxpayers wouldn’t have to continue to subsidize excessive pay.”

The report points to the largest beneficiaries of the tax loopholes, saying they benefit the most from the unlimited tax deductibility of executive paybecause their compensation has the largest proportion of deductible, performanced-based pay.

Oracle’s Larry Ellison, the sixth richest person in the world with a net worth of $36 billion, according to Forbes, tops the list, and is followed by Discovery Communications’ David Zaslav; Viacom’s Philippe Dauman; Motorola Mobility Holdings’ Sanjay Jha; and CBS Corp.’s Leslie Moonves.

Neither Oracle, Discovery Communications, Viacom and Motorola Mobility Holdings returned calls requesting comment. A spokeswoman for CBS Corp. and a spokeswoman for Discovery declined to comment.

I have come to the conclusion that Americans Do not care what happens to this Country, it seem that they would rather see it go Bankrupt then give up pay packages.

Today Americans WANT to much and don’t look at what the outcome will be, where do we start to look for the problem of going Bankrupt, I guess the first place to start is with the State, County, and City, they spend money they don’t have, so they go out and borrow money to do things that they and the people want, and if they don’t have enough they raise Taxes, well if you have not noticed that leads to your tax base to leave for cheaper places to set up.
