NSA Spying On Americans, Or is it a D N A Test Against Americans

Government Spying on their own people shows no respect for them and the laws, and there is some thing wrong. From what I can see with this is, that it is no different then the Government taking a D N A test from you and saying their won’t use it, but then use it to cover up a crime, and using you as the patsy, and if so you don’t have any recourse to prove that it was not you, once the Government does this you will never get out of it unless some one comes forward and tells the truth.

If you have not noticed, any Government will do any thing they want and get away with it, unless the American people start getting a back bone  and stop believing all the lies, and stand up against their corrupt ways and take control, and get rid of people who want to bring down our Country, if not, you will be under control of a Dictator Government very shortly, and never see a freedom again.

NSA being a Government Agency is also a polluter to produce power for this, and is wasting energy with taxpayers money, and who is going to pay the carbon tax on the waste of this power-hungry facility, and how long do you think the Electricity will remain cheap, wake up people and get your head out of Governments A  , and stop believing every thing they say.    

If you are an American and believe our Government, then you are really Gullible in believing how trust worthy our Government really is today, if you have not noticed, they don’t care about you, only your money, just like the rich, that’s right they are also rich.

Utah home to NSA’s new mega-warehouse for data

(AP) — The nation’s new billion-dollar epicenter for fighting global cyberthreats sits just south of Salt Lake City, tucked away on a National Guard base at the foot of snow-capped mountains. The long, squat buildings span 1.5 million square feet, and are filled with super-powered computers designed to store massive amounts of information gathered secretly from phone calls and emails.

Two small, weathered signs in the sagebrush greet interlopers to this place with a stark warning: “Military reservation. No trespassing.” But there is no visible marker bearing the facility’s name and operator: The Utah Data Center, brought to you courtesy of the National Security Agency.

When it opens this fall, the facility will be the NSA’s largest data storage center in the U.S. Just don’t ask Utah officials, and certainly not the residents of tiny Bluffdale, just north of the new center, to tell you exactly what will go on inside. They either don’t know, or aren’t saying. And the NSA is famously tight-lipped.

“We know it’s a spy center. But who are they spying on?” said Connie Robbins, an upholstery shop owner who lives in Bluffdale, a community of 8,000 some 25 miles south of Salt Lake City that is known for its rodeo and annual Old West Days.

The dearth of information has perpetuated a mystery that has spawned dozens of theories and a spoof website that even includes a phony code name for the facility: “Bumblehive,” a play on Utah’s nickname of the “Beehive State.”

Last week’s revelation that the NSA is collecting millions of U.S. phone records along with digital communications stored by nine major Internet providers illustrates how aggressively personal information is being congregated and analyzed — and shines a brighter light on what will be going on in secret at the Utah facility, scheduled to open in October.

NSA officials say the center will play a key role in the nation’s effort to protect national security networks, and allow U.S. authorities to monitor for potential cyberthreats. In an email, agency spokeswoman Vanee Vines said that “many unfounded allegations have been made about the planned activities” of the center.

“NSA would like to confirm, on the record, that the Utah Data Center is a state-of-the-art data facility designed to support the U.S. intelligence community’s efforts to further strengthen and protect the nation. Its operations will be lawfully conducted in accordance with U.S. laws and policies,” Vines wrote.

She provided no additional details, however.

Richard “Dickie” George, who retired from the NSA in 2011 after 40 years, said the facility isn’t nearly as interesting or mysterious as some think. He calls it little more than a giant storeroom. Inundated with increasing volumes of secretly taped phone calls, intercepted emails and poached records of online purchases, the NSA needed a mega-warehouse to put it all, he said.

“It’s just a big file cabinet out in the Western area,” said George, once a senior technical leader at the agency. “There is no spying going on there.”

NSA agents elsewhere will comb through the data stored in Utah as the agency attempts to understand how terrorist groups operate and who plays what roles, George said. Emails, articles, websites and videos on the Internet may hold clues about such activities, he said.

James Bamford, the author of several books on the NSA who last year wrote about the Utah center in Wired magazine, asserts that the facility will serve as the central depository for everything the NSA intercepts, functioning as the agency’s “cloud.” Analysts at NSA headquarters at Fort Meade, Md., and other agency sites will be able to access the information by way of secure, fiber-optic cables, he said.

The mammoth center, which cost some $1.7 billion, will allow the agency to store more and, perhaps more importantly, keep information for much longer. Bamford theorizes the facility will be able to hold a so-called yottabyte of information, the largest measurement computer scientists have. A yottabyte is equal to 500 quintillion pages of text, said Bamford, who believes the Utah center will store those phone records NSA gathered from Verizon Communications.

“Every day you pick up a telephone and call your grandmother or call your sons and daughters and mothers and fathers and whoever, records of those calls will be all kept in there — and may be kept in there forever. Who knows?” Bamford said.

In response, NSA spokeswoman Vines stressed that the agency is not “unlawfully listening in on, or reading emails of, U.S. citizens.”

NSA officials have said the agency chose the Bluffdale location over 37 others because electricity is cheaper here, and land more easily available. The center will constantly use 65 megawatts of power — enough to power 33,000 houses.

The secrecy and security surrounding the facility are necessary because the center will store classified information, and the code-breaking and spying activities of its staff are also highly classified and a target for foreign spies, said a former U.S. intelligence official who spoke on condition of anonymity because the official was not authorized to discuss the program publicly.

The official said the Salt Lake City area is ideal because of a high concentration of Mormons who have served overseas missions and learned foreign languages. The NSA relies on non-English speakers to translate communications from around the world, and Utah provides a pool of employees that meets this need, said the official.

There is another facility in Utah where the NSA has analysts who translate intercepted communications, but there will be no such analysts at the Bluffdale center, the agency said. Most of the 150 to 200 workers instead will be technicians charged with keeping the power on and the computers chilled and working.

George said the agency probably doesn’t need to be as hyper-secretive as it is but said such precautions are meant to avoid letting slip any insight that could tip off terrorist organizations and those who may wish harm upon the United States.

“It’s just not in your best interest to be talking about what you are doing,” he said.

It’s that air of uncertainty that has unnerved residents who live and work near the facility, located on the Camp Williams National Guard base. Some worry the center could become a target of terrorists if it holds so much valuable information.

“Say they were collecting data somebody didn’t want, say a terrorist,” said Shannon Neilson, a convenience store manager whose house is just miles from the center. “What if that’s a target for a plane hitting that, destroying everything?”

Late last month, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the center to mark work being finished on the exterior. The celebration, however, was closed to the public — an exclusive, invitation-only gathering that barred even the mayor of Bluffdale. The NSA also rejected a request by city officials to take a group of visiting Utah mayors on a bus tour of the outside of the facility. The agency said all tours — even of the exterior — are prohibited.

At the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, educators are creating a certificate program that they hope will produce students ready to work at big data centers such as the Bluffdale facility. The NSA helped reviewed the curriculum, offering suggestions, and plans to offer internships to students, said Valerio Pascucci, director of the Center for Extreme Data, Management, Analysis and Visualization.

The program is designed primarily for undergraduate students studying mechanical or electrical engineering and computer science. So far, the Utah Data Center has yet to post jobs, Valerio said. “We are building a new expertise that obviously is going to be in growing demand in the future,” he said.

Bluffdale City Manager Mark Reid said he hopes the NSA center serves as a magnet for other, privately run data centers to the area. Unlike the NSA facility, those would be required to pay property taxes. Reid will travel to a data center conference in Washington, D.C., this month to promote Utah’s cheap power and ideal workforce. But if attendees ask about the new NSA facility, he’ll be short on answers.

“I know very little,” Reid said. “We just deliver the water.”

RENO, Nev. (AP) — A Nevada powerbroker who headed a billion-dollar real estate company and pulled the strings of state politics as a prominent lobbyist for more than a decade was convicted Wednesday of making illegal campaign contributions to U.S. Sen. Harry Reid.

Harvey Whittemore, 59, could face up to 15 years in prison and hundreds of thousands of dollars in fines after a federal jury returned guilty verdicts on three counts tied to nearly $150,000 illegally funneled to Reid’s re-election campaign in 2007.

Later in the day, U.S. District Judge Larry Hicks declared a mistrial on a count of lying to the FBI after jurors said they were deadlocked on that charge.

Whittemore stood with his arms behind his back and shook his head slightly after the verdicts were read. He was convicted of making excessive campaign contributions, making contributions in the name of another and causing a false statement to be made to the Federal Election Commission.

Each count carries a maximum penalty of up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. The judge set sentencing for Sept. 23.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Steven Myhre said prosecutors will review the case before deciding whether to refile the charge of lying to the FBI during a February 2012 interview.

Dominic Gentile, Whittemore’s lead defense counsel, said the convictions will be appealed to the 9th U.S. Circuit of Appeals. He said a case pending before the U.S. Supreme Court touches on similar issues related to the constitutionality of federal limits on campaign contributions.

Among other things, Gentile said the defense will challenge Hicks’ refusal to allow the defense to reference an Alabama case against the Federal Election Commission.

“His conduct was protected by the First Amendment,” Gentile told reporters at a news conference with Whittemore and his wife, Annette, shortly after leaving court.

Whittemore said he would reserve immediate comment on his conviction because of the emotional toll the two-week trial has taken on his family.

“My family and I have been through quite a bit,” he said.

He said he will hold a news conference when all appeals are resolved to give the “complete and true story about who was behind this and how it got started.”

Annette Whittemore said the couple is fortunate to have such a close, “strong-willed” family to support them.

“Harvey said throughout the trial the one thing they can’t take away is our family and friends,” she said.

Prosecutors said Whittemore gave money to family members and employees in 2007 to make contributions he had promised to Reid while concealing himself as the true source to skirt campaign finance laws.

Defense attorneys argued Whittemore broke no laws by giving $5,000 checks as gifts to family members and as gifts or bonuses to 29 employees and their spouses, who then each wrote checks for the maximum allowable $4,600 to the Senate majority leader’s campaign fund, Friends of Harry Reid.

Myrhe said he hopes the verdicts send a strong message that U.S. campaign finance violations are serious offenses that will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

“These laws exist to protect the election process from undue influence and to provide transparency to the voting public,” he told reporters outside the courthouse.

Assistant U.S. Attorney General Mythili Raman said Whittemore used “straw donors” to evade federal contribution limits.

“The cornerstones of our campaign finance laws are contribution limits and transparency, and Mr. Whittemore’s crime was designed to undermine both,” Mythili said in a statement from Washington.

Prosecutors said in closing arguments Tuesday that Whittemore had been the “king of the hill” in Nevada political circles, an insider who had worked his way onto the short list of many U.S. senators and representatives as someone to call when they needed to quickly find donors.

Whittemore once hosted an event for Sen. John Edwards, then a Democratic presidential hopeful, and a fundraiser at Reid’s request for then-Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle. He also helped arrange a reception attended by President Clinton during an environmental summit at Lake Tahoe.

“When he made these contributions, he was the ultimate insider,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Eric Olshan said during his closing argument. “He was making millions of dollars and getting personal thank-you notes from the most prominent politicians in the country.”

Reid had no comment on the verdicts, said Kristen Orthman, a spokeswoman for the senator.

Reid was not accused of any wrongdoing. He has said he was unaware of any potential problems with the money he received.

“I received $25 million. He raised $150,000,” Reid told the Las Vegas Sun earlier this week. “I had money coming in from other places.”

Myhre told jurors Whittemore was driven solely by greed — “not to get more money but greed in the sense of more power.”

“It’s about trying to be on the short list that senators and congressmen call when they need money,” he said. “That’s why he did it.”

Myhre said after the verdicts that he couldn’t comment on why the prosecution chose not to call Reid as a witness, or whether the case involving Whittemore has been completely closed.

College Sticker Shock, WHY?

Sticker Shock for colleges? Ask the GREEDY Professors and Administrators.

I read an article here the other day and it made the comment that they have to raise them to keep their Professors, start there, if you want to stop it, boycott these Colleges, plus you could probably get a better Education by going to local Community college. 

Is it that by going to a Big Name College, you can Party and walk around with your nose up in the air Bragging that you went to Blah Blah  College and not really getting the Education that you deserve, which is, go to a party School, or a go to a  less expensive College and get an Education.

As you read this article you will see a lot of double talk to why the cost is so high, basically it all stems to GREED, Public Schools are having the same problem.

Sticker shock: New college graduates, here is why your education cost so much money

When high school senior Jenny Bonilla got her college acceptance letter in March, she felt shock and heartbreak rather than joy. That’s because the letter from Goucher College, a private liberal arts school in Baltimore, also brought news that she would owe an unaffordable $20,000 a year in tuition and board, even with a scholarship the college was offering.

Bonilla had been in the running for a full ride to Goucher but eventually lost out because her parents’ combined income of $57,000 a year was deemed too high.

“That was heartbreaking,” she said.

Bonilla’s experience is all too familiar to many students and their parents contemplating college, as higher education price increases have far outpaced the growth in middle-class wages over the past three decades.

The average tuition and fees at a public, four-year university rose to $8,655 in 2012-13, not counting the costs of room and board, according to the College Board. That’s 250 percent more than it would have cost in 1982, when a year of college would have set the average student back just $2,423 in today’s dollars.

The tuition at private colleges has increased at a slightly lower rate over the same period: the average four-year private institution costs $29,056, not counting room and board. It would have cost $10,901 in 2012 dollars back in 1982.

The pricey degree comes with big returns, on average: College educated workers earned 79 percent more than high-school educated workers in 2012, and were much less likely to be unemployed.

The pain of the price hikes has been partially offset by an increase in federal grants and tax breaks for college, as well as by private schools offering deeply discounted tuition rates to lower-income students. But even with that help, some students like Bonilla are finding themselves locked out of the system.

Why is college so much more expensive now than it was 30 years ago? Economists fall into two main schools of thought in explaining the trend.

One theory, referred to as “Bowen’s Rule,” says that the decisions made by many colleges and universities—such as how many administrators to hire and how to spend its cash—primarily drive the cost.

A competing theory, called “Baumol’s cost disease,” posits that higher education is expensive because of outside macroeconomic factors that affect other businesses, like the cost of hiring highly educated workers.

In other words, it’s either the colleges’ fault, or it isn’t.

In their book, “Why Does College Cost So Much?” Robert Archibald and David Feldman, economists at The College of William & Mary, are firmly in the Baumol camp. They argue that a college’s hefty price tag isn’t actually surprising at all, given that it depends on the performance of its workforce—highly educated professors and teachers who provide a face-to-face service, not a material good.

Larger economic trends have jacked up the salaries of highly educated workers across the board in recent decades, while the cost of face-to-face services has also remained high, since technological advances do not necessarily make these services cheaper.

Feldman used the example of the cost of a haircut, which has also outpaced inflation in the past 30 years.

While technology has made factories vastly more efficient at producing goods for less money, technological advances have not been able to make the time a haircut takes shorter or replace the skilled person who has to give the haircut. College is like a haircut on steroids, since the barbers have PhDs.

“Higher education is an industry where there’s not a whole lot of productivity growth and not a whole of scope for productivity growth,” Feldman said.

The vast majority of most colleges’ budgets go to personnel, and that cost is unlikely to come down any time soon.

Benjamin Ginsburg, a political science professor at John Hopkins University, takes the Bowen view.

In his book, “The Fall of the Faculty: The Rise of the All-Administrative University and Why It Matters,” Ginsburg argues that a significant increase in administrative employees is in part responsible for college’s runaway pricing.

He writes that between 1975 and 2005, the faculty to student ratio has remained fairly constant at universities, while the student-to-professional staffer (such as an admissions officer) ratio increased from one to 50 to 1 to 24.

“As colleges and universities have had more money to spend, they have not chosen to spend it on expanding their instructional resources—that is, on paying faculty,” Ginsburg writes. “They have chosen, instead, to enhance their administrative and staff resources.”

Feldman discounts this argument. He points out that students demand a broader bundle of services from college now than they did 50 years ago, and that the price reflects that. Students want staffers to plan student life activities, career counselors, fancy dorms, nice gyms and up to date technology.

The economy as a whole, not just higher education, has also shifted to include more administrative positions in the past decades, he argues.

Some argue that colleges have had no choice but to hire more administrative staff, in part because they are so thoroughly regulated by both state and federal governments. Colleges are required to report to the government all gifts accepted from foreign governments, supply information about the salaries of coaches, and prove they commemorated Constitution Day every September 17, among other rules. Complying with the regulations requires staff.

“Externally imposed regulations increase the cost of doing business and that cost is passed on to consumers,” Terry Hartle, one of the chief lobbyists for the higher education industry, said.

State budget woes have also hiked the cost of many colleges. Sandy Baum, an economist and independent policy analyst for the College Board, says the price increases at public institutions have been driven by declining support from states, which have cut higher education in order to balance their budgets.

“It’s not actually that the colleges are spending more money on the students, it’s that they’re getting … much less money per student from the state government,” Baum said.

That means students aren’t necessarily getting more for their money, especially at public institutions.

Advances in technology might help colleges cut costs in the future, either by allowing them to have fewer in-person classes as more people take classes online or by streamlining some library costs, among other possibilities. But higher education experts say there’s no silver bullet.

“Colleges are looking at how to save money and they need to look harder because it’s just so expensive,” said Baum. She mentioned increasing technology, streamlining government regulations and cutting back on administrators as some possible things to help costs. “There’s no miracles there,” she said.

Jenny Bonilla didn’t have time to wait for a miracle. Bonilla’s father lost his job just days after she received her letter from Goucher, reducing the family’s annual income to $40,000.

Bonilla’s parents didn’t want her to take on $60,000 in debt, and knew they couldn’t come up with the money to help her on their own. They decided she should enroll in nearby Prince George Community College for two years and then try to transfer to a four-year public school from there.

“I applied to so many schools and then for me to end up at community college is kind of devastating,” Bonilla says.

Stupid Some Times More Stupid Then Other Times

I can agree but I can disagree with what Government is trying to do, what if you have a good Teacher in a school with a good showing and the Principal does not like that Teacher because they do not do what the Principal wants, or they might want one of their good bodies there, then what do you have, than you have what is going on now, poor standard of Education, and then you have more strikes which is not good for the students THAT THESE teachers took the oath to teach, not strike, but they are teaching these kids it is alright to break the law to get what you want.

From what I have seen in the last Twenty years is that these Teachers are more worried about them selves then they are for the Students that they are there to teach, just look at the signs that they were carrying, it did not say NO STUDENT LEFT BEHIND, it said NO TEACHER LEFT BEHIND, now how much education was done at that time while they were still getting paid, if they go on strike no pay or back pay from going on strike, give them ZERO income for no education, like the old saying NO TICKY NO WASHY period, you don’t work you don’t get paid.

Peacemaker in Tacoma teachers strike deal could be doomed

Barely 18 months after teachers in Tacoma went on strike over their district’s proposal to give principals more authority over teacher placement, the Legislature is poised to derail the plan that helped make peace between the union and school system.

Senate Bill 5242, which passed out of the Senate Wednesday on a 27-22 vote, would give principals veto authority over teacher reassignments.

Districts often move teachers between schools based on staffing needs, which are determined by student enrollment.

Under the bill that passed the Senate last Wednesday, principals and teachers would have to come to a “mutual agreement” about a teacher’s placement at a given school — otherwise, the teacher could be put on temporary assignment by the district, and potentially fired after eight months if he or she can’t find a permanent spot.

The bill would apply to all contracts entered into after Aug. 1 of this year. That means the three-year contract the district and the Tacoma Education Association hammered out in 2011 would be allowed to stand through its expiration date of August 2014.

But after that, any new contracts between the district and the union would be have to stripped of language that allows reassignments to be decided by a three-member committee of a principal and two teachers, said John Prosser, a union member who served on a committee to develop Tacoma’s new teacher displacement policy.

Prosser wrote a letter to the Senate Early Learning and K-12 Education Committee saying that Senate Bill 5242 “will undo the monumental work” Tacoma just completed.

“We’re in that healing phase,” Prosser said Friday. “Anything that undoes that process is just going to open up old wounds. This is the reason we went on strike.”

Republican state Sen. Steve Litzow, who chairs the Senate Early Learning & K-12 Education Committee, said the logic behind Senate Bill 5242 is that “the principal knows what’s best for his school.” The Mercer Island lawmaker introduced the legislation.

“It’s not about good or bad teachers,” Litzow said on the Senate floor. “It’s about the kind of teacher the principal believes he needs in his school to get the best out of his students.”

As a condition of the fall 2011 contract, Prosser and eight other committee members worked between November 2011 and June 2012 to develop the new rules in Tacoma, which the district just put into effect this year.

Dan Voelpel, spokesman for Tacoma Public Schools, said that district officials don’t want to see their newly developed process change, either.

“We love it,” Voelpel said Wednesday. “We wouldn’t be in favor of having any prescriptive changes.”

The state teachers union opposes the bill, as do the lobbying arms of the state principals association and the state school administrators association. Education reform groups, including Stand for Children, support the proposal.

“Mutual consent policies create strong matches between teachers and schools, which benefits teachers, schools and students,” said Anne Luce of Partnership for Learning, the education foundation of the Washington Roundtable.

Adrienne Dale, the president of the Tacoma Education Association, said that her union plans to fight the bill in the state House, which has a Democratic majority that is more likely to try to block its passage.

Should those efforts fail and the measure pass into law, Dale said that it would be “going backward.”

“We are allowed to bargain our contract language, and that’s one of our basic rights,” Dale said. “I would hate to see that disappear.”

Postal Service to cut Saturday mail to trim costs


Comment: It is about time

It is about time that they told the Government to go take a flying leap off their high horse, I look at it this way, if the Government does not use their services then they should not have any say on how they run the Postal Service.

mailtruck-copyRemember here a while back the article about the Government using FedEx to deliver their mail at a higher price then the Postal Service, and now they have just about totally stop using them all together, but expects them to follow their rules, and so they can keep taking money from them for their gain.

I my self blame a lot of their problems on sponsoring bike riders in an other Country for one, and I think the worst is putting out a new stamp out every month for some dingbat who wants their name or organization on it, why not put out TWO stamp, FIRST and CRAP, and leave it at that, then the cost would go down to operate, and freeze all wages and benefits to all, now and in the future.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. Postal Service will stop delivering mail on Saturdays but continue to deliver packages six days a week under a plan aimed at saving about $2 billion annually, the financially struggling agency says.

In an announcement scheduled for later Wednesday, the service is expected to say the Saturday mail cutback would begin in August.

The move accentuates one of the agency’s strong points — package delivery has increased by 14 percent since 2010, officials say, while the delivery of letters and other mail has declined with the increasing use of email and other Internet services.

Under the new plan, mail would be delivered to homes and businesses only from Monday through Friday, but would still be delivered to post office boxes on Saturdays. Post offices now open on Saturdays would remain open on Saturdays.

Over the past several years, the Postal Service has advocated shifting to a five-day delivery schedule for mail and packages — and it repeatedly but unsuccessfully appealed to Congress to approve the move. Though an independent agency, the service gets no tax dollars for its day-to-day operations but is subject to congressional control.

It was not immediately clear how the service could eliminate Saturday mail without congressional approval.

But the agency clearly thinks it has a majority of the American public on its side regarding the change.

Material prepared for the Wednesday press conference by Patrick R. Donahoe, postmaster general and CEO, says Postal Service market research and other research has indicated that nearly 7 in 10 Americans support the switch to five-day delivery as a way for the Postal Service to reduce costs.

“The Postal Service is advancing an important new approach to delivery that reflects the strong growth of our package business and responds to the financial realities resulting from America’s changing mailing habits,” Donahoe said in a statement prepared for the announcement. “We developed this approach by working with our customers to understand their delivery needs and by identifying creative ways to generate significant cost savings.”

But the president of the National Association of Letter Carriers, Fredric Rolando, said the end of Saturday mail delivery is “a disastrous idea that would have a profoundly negative effect on the Postal Service and on millions of customers,” particularly businesses, rural communities, the elderly, the disabled and others who depend on Saturday delivery for commerce and communication.

He said the maneuver by Donahoe to make the change “flouts the will of Congress, as expressed annually over the past 30 years in legislation that mandates six-day delivery.”

There was no immediate comment from lawmakers.

The Postal Service is making the announcement Wednesday, more than six months before the switch, to give residential and business customers time to plan and adjust, the statement said.

“The American public understands the financial challenges of the Postal Service and supports these steps as a responsible and reasonable approach to improving our financial situation,” Donahoe said. “The Postal Service has a responsibility to take the steps necessary to return to long-term financial stability and ensure the continued affordability of the U.S. Mail.”

He said the change would mean a combination of employee reassignment and attrition and is expected to achieve cost savings of approximately $2 billion annually when fully implemented.

The agency in November reported an annual loss of a record $15.9 billion for the last budget year and forecast more red ink in 2013, capping a tumultuous year in which it was forced to default on billions in retiree health benefit prepayments to avert bankruptcy.

The financial losses for the fiscal year ending Sept. 30 were more than triple the $5.1 billion loss in the previous year. Having reached its borrowing limit, the mail agency is operating with little cash on hand.

The agency’s biggest problem — and the majority of the red ink in 2012 — was not due to reduced mail flow but rather to mounting mandatory costs for future retiree health benefits, which made up $11.1 billion of the losses. Without that and other related labor expenses, the mail agency sustained an operating loss of $2.4 billion, lower than the previous year.

The health payments are a requirement imposed by Congress in 2006 that the post office set aside $55 billion in an account to cover future medical costs for retirees. The idea was to put $5.5 billion a year into the account for 10 years. That’s $5.5 billion the post office doesn’t have.

No other government agency is required to make such a payment for future medical benefits. Postal authorities wanted Congress to address the issue last year, but lawmakers finished their session without getting it done. So officials are moving ahead to accelerate their own plan for cost-cutting.

The Postal Service is in the midst of a major restructuring throughout its retail, delivery and mail processing operations. Since 2006, it has cut annual costs by about $15 billion, reduced the size of its career workforce by 193,000 or by 28 percent, and has consolidated more than 200 mail processing locations, officials say.

They say that while the change in the delivery schedule announced Wednesday is one of the actions needed to restore the financial health of the service, they still urgently need lawmakers to act. Officials say they continue to press for legislation that will give them greater flexibility to control costs and make new revenues.

There are Faults Promises in the fiscal cliff, no matter what happens, the biggest losers no matter what the out come, is going to be the people who can least afford it.

They talk about Entitlements, it always comes up to Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security, but what they are not telling you is that a lot of these Entitlements are for the Rich, take farm aid, WHAT, yes there a lot of Wealthy people who are getting this help as farmers that don’t even run their farm, these people are News people, CEOs who draw millions in wages who never see the farms they run except in a Picture, but yet they get this farm aid and leaving the real farmer struggling to keep their farms from going under and having to sell them to the Greedy Rich, this also includes Real-estate moguls.

Years back there was a bomb shell dropped about people getting farm aid that were not even a farm, they were a Tennis Ranch, a Horse Ranch, and it goes on, but they don’t want to touch these types of Entitlements because these are programs for the Rich. 

A good example of what is going on in this Country today, Government Agencies don’t under stand what all this spending to help the rich and people who want every thing, every time you want you put a strain on the poor who can not get pay raises every year, look how long it has taken to get a raise for people making minimum wage, and in the mean time cost of living has gone so high that low-income people are one step to living on the street because to find a place to live, the prices keep going up to where for every Dollar that is made Seventy Cents ($.70) goes to rent, what is left, Utilities, Gas to go to work and repairs, this takes another Fifteen Cents ($.15), then you have taxes, would you say that is Eight Cents ($.08), so what is left for food to feed your Family, Fifteen Cents ($.07) but yet they want to keep spending money that they don’t have, so who is paying the price, NOT the RICH.

They make statements like wages should be allowed to raise, this is just like Raising Taxes, Prices, this also goes for the Government, every time they get their Automatic Pay Raises and Cost Of Living, WHAT DO YOU THINK WILL HAPPEN, the same thing we are doing now, heading back to a Great Depression, but you better add another Great to that, but this time it will be total Destruction, because people today are so greedy that the person with the biggest BOMB will survive, but what will that prove, NOTHING, because there will be nothing left. If you look at it now, it has already started, killing and stealing, and Robbing others who don’t have it like the rich, go after them they got it not the poor.

People talk about Poor wages, they complain about no health insurance,70663-Royalty-Free-RF-Clipart-Illustration-Of-A-Lazy-Boss-Smoking-A-Cigar-And-Relaxing-With-His-Feet-On-His-Desk but yet CEO’s say they can’t afford to give their Employees a Pay raise and Insurance, BUT YET they can give them selves pay raises and Health insurance along with the Board of Directors and top Executives Top Dollar and yearly raises, and the Government does nothing about it like they did back in the Sixties where they set Workers pay at Three Percent a year, that is about when the spread between WORKERS and CEO’s started and Insurance started to disappear.

I am not against some Unions because I am a Union member and treated good, but I have been in other Unions and got nothing but pay dews and watch them drive around in fancy cars and go to high-end restaurants to eat, and see them run around in Five Hundred Dollar Suits or more, now is that protecting you the worker.

What is Obama doing about this, taking his $8.25 an hour job and giving it to some one else (spreading the wealth).

McDonald’s $8.25 Man and $8.75 Million CEO Shows Pay Gap

Tyree Johnson scrubs himself with a bar of soap in a McDonald’s (MCD) bathroom and puts on fresh deodorant. He stashes his toiletries in a Kenneth Cole bag, a gift from his mother who works the counter at Macy’s, and hops on an El train. His destination: another McDonald’s.

Johnson isn’t one of Chicago’s many homeless people who seek shelter in fast-food joints. He’s a McDonald’s employee, at both stores — one in the Loop, the other about a mile away in the shadow of Holy Name Cathedral.

He needs the makeshift baths because hygiene and appearance are part of his annual compensation reviews. Even with frequent scrubbings, he said before a recent shift, it’s hard to remove the essence of the greasy food he works around.

“I hate when my boss tells me she won’t give me a raise because she can smell me,” he said.

Johnson, 44, needs the two paychecks to pay rent for his apartment at a single-room occupancy hotel on the city’s north side. While he’s worked at McDonald’s stores for two decades, he still doesn’t get 40 hours a week and makes $8.25 an hour, minimum wage in Illinois.

This is life in one of America’s premier growth industries. Fast-food restaurants have added positions more than twice as fast as the U.S. average during the recovery that began in June 2009. The jobs created by companies including Burger King Worldwide Inc. and Yum! Brands Inc. (YUM), which owns the Pizza Hut, Taco Bell and KFC brands, are among the lowest-paid in the U.S. — except in the C suite.


Pay Disparity

The pay gap separating fast-food workers from their chief executive officers is growing at each of those companies. The disparity has doubled at McDonald’s Corp. in the last 10 years, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. At the same time, the company helped pay for lobbying against minimum-wage increases and sought to quash the kind of unionization efforts that erupted recently on the streets of Chicago and New York.

Older workers like Johnson are staffing fast-food grills and fryers more often, according to data from the U.S. Census Bureau’s Current Population Survey. In 2010, 16- to 19-year-olds made up 17 percent of food preparation and serving workers, down from almost a quarter in 2000, as older, underemployed Americans took those jobs.

“The sheer number of adults in the industry has just exploded” because fast-food restaurants “not only survived, but thrived during the economic recession,” said Saru Jayaraman, director of the Food Labor Research Center at the University of California at Berkeley.


Million Hours

Johnson’s work flipping burgers and hoisting boxes of french fries, like millions of other jobs in low-wage industries, helps explain why income inequality grew after the 2007-2009 recession ended.

The recovery from the last downturn has been the most uneven in recent history. The 1.2 million households whose incomes put them in the top 1 percent of the U.S. saw their earnings increase 5.5 percent last year, according to census estimates. Earnings fell 1.7 percent for the 97 million households in the bottom 80 percent — those who made less than $101,583.

The widening chasm is most pronounced in the restaurant and retail businesses. The total number of people employed in the U.S. at Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and McDonald’s and Yum Brands restaurants exceeds the entire 2.7 million population of Chicago. Net income at those three companies has jumped by at least 22 percent from four years ago.


Shareholders Benefit

Shareholders, not employees, have reaped the rewards. McDonald’s, for example, spent $6 billion on share repurchases and dividends last year, the equivalent of $14,286 per restaurant worker employed by the company. At the same time, restaurant companies have formed an industrywide effort to freeze the minimum wage, whose purchasing power is 20 percent less than in 1968, according to the Economic Policy Institute, a think tank that advocates for low- and middle-income workers.

Johnson begins most days the same way: picking cigarette butts out of the shower drain of a shared bathroom, using a tissue so he doesn’t touch them. While there’s a “No Smoking” sign posted inside the hotel where he lives, that doesn’t stop the other occupants who share the showers, sinks and toilets.

His rent at the hotel in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood is $320 a month. Johnson usually can’t cover it all at once, so he’s allowed to pay $160 every two weeks, or even $80 a week, for his first-floor room. He’s late on November rent and owes about $100 — some of it a late-payment fee, he said. Since falling behind, he’s put off buying a Dell laptop for $99 that he found online.


‘Forget Computer’

“Forget about that computer,” Johnson said. For now, he’ll keep going to a local Apple store when he wants to update his Facebook page in his efforts to find someone nice to date and to stay in touch with his father.

A pay stub of Johnson’s shows that he earned $8,518.80 through Sept. 9 this year at the store that gives him most of his hours. He was able to work only 52 hours during that two- week pay period because the restaurant was being remodeled, he said. A statement of earnings from his other McDonald’s job shows that he worked fewer than 12 hours over two weeks, earning $95.45 before taxes.

Even with the U.S unemployment rate dropping last month to 7.7 percent, minimum-wage earners have less power to demand higher pay because so many adults are willing to take low-wage positions, said Nelson Lichtenstein, director of the Center for the Study of Work, Labor and Democracy at the University of California at Santa Barbara.

Put the Blame Where it Starts

The blame starts with the Governments who regulate the Companies, then it goes to the Companies who ask for less regulations, then it ends up with the people who storm stores because they can not wait to buy the latest fad, you here it all the time, some thing new comes out and people start lining up the day before the store has the sale, and then try to breakdown the doors before they can be unlocked.

Today people think that every thing is free to the taking and not have to work for it, again where does the blame start, right back with the Government for giving free hand outs, so they think every thing is free to the taking, but when it goes wrong some one dies or they sue because the got caught. So we all better share the Blame.

It is not just Walmart this has happened to.

They talk about wages and no Union, lets say this about Unions in some Jobs, my wife was with the food service Union, she got what you call a good wage $10 dollars an hour, no medical, because she was only allowed 20 hours a week (part-time), the same thing walmart workers work and others if you are not a manager, at least they are not having to pay union dues out of what they make like she was, not much left to take home after paying the dues, actually I think the union-made more than she did, and they did not do the work.

Workers Killed a Man on Sunday

If there’s anything that Walmart didn’t need on Black Friday weekend, it was a jaw-dropping headline about somebody dying in their parking lot after a run-in with a couple of employees. Unfortunately for the big box retailer, that’s exactly what happened on early Sunday morning at a store in Lithonia, Georgia.

It’s a sad, simple story. An unidentified man allegedly stole two DVD players from the electronics department and left the store through the front door. Two Walmart employees and a contracted security guard chased him into the parking lot. A “physical altercation” took place, and apparently, the security guard put the man in a choke hold. Police arrived soon thereafter to find the three workers on top of the suspected shoplifter who was unresponsive and bleeding from his nose and mouth. The man was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

“No amount of merchandise is worth someone’s life,” said Walmart spokesperson Dianna Gee in a statement. “Associates are trained to disengage from situations that would put themselves or others at risk.” She added, “That being said, this is still an active investigation and we’re working with police to provide any assistance.” Walmart put the two employees on paid leave and fired the security guard.

Regardless of what happens at the end of that investigation, there’s no way Walmart is going to come out of this one looking good. It truly sounds like this was a horrible accident, the kind that makes it hard to point fingers or figure out what went wrong. However, this incident also happened as thousands of Walmart workers nationwide were protesting poor treatment by their employers. Are the two things related? Only insofar as it adds up to a ton of bad press for a company long known to promote mass hysteria on Black Friday weekend. It’s a problem that people are still dying at their stores, years after warnings signs like the Walmart employee who was trampled to death on Black Friday.

Thank God the new Black Friday trend is online shopping.

National Labor Relations Board, force all businesses to turn over workers’ phone numbers, emails and MORE

People Complain about Cameras on public streets and Businesses being invasion of privacy, what would you say about the Government and Unions forcing Businesses to turn over your personal information to the Unions so they can call and harass you to join the Union, this would definitely be invasion of privacy, there is no reason for the Union or Government to have this information except for HARASSMENT AND INTIMIDATION. All States should be right to work states, it is not up to the Unions or the Government to say who can work and not work among Legal American Citizens.

If Obama and the  National Labor Relations Board get their way you will lose what privacy and be under Total Control of the Government and Unions, FREEDOM LOST.

Labor: Tax the rich, don’t touch safety nets

WASHINGTON (AP) — After two years of getting pummeled in Wisconsin, Indiana and other battleground states, leaders of the nation’s big labor unions were beaming on election night.

Labor’s massive voter turnout effort played a major role in helping President Barack Obama win Ohio, Nevada and Wisconsin, according to exit polls, and its leaders are now looking for a more liberal, pro-union agenda from the White House.

“There are things the president can do, and we’ll be expecting that leadership from President Obama,” AFL-CIO President Richard Trumka told reporters after the election.

Topping labor’s wish list — for now — is a push to raise taxes on wealthy Americans and discouraging Obama from agreeing to any deal with Republicans over the looming “fiscal cliff” that cuts into Social Security and Medicare.

But unions are also pressing for new measures that might help boost their sagging membership rolls. New investment in infrastructure would bring construction jobs for trade unions. Immigration reform — and a path to citizenship for 11 million undocumented Latino immigrants — would create a vast new pool of potential union members. And new regulations could remove some obstacles to union organizing.

Business groups that have vigorously opposed efforts to help unions draw new members say they will keep playing defense.

“My primary concern is in the regulations,” said Randel Johnson, vice president at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce for labor issues. “We are afraid that on employment issues, the administration will stay firmly to the left and follow the lead of the unions.”

A new rule expected from the Labor Department would force companies to reveal relationships with so-called union-busting consulting companies even if the companies have no contact with workers. The National Labor Relations Board is expected to start work on a rule that would force businesses to turn over workers’ phone numbers, emails and shift times to union organizers.

The Obama administration might even consider a plan that would give an advantage in bidding on government contracts to companies that offer workers a higher living wage and generous benefits.

Unlike four years ago, unions have not made passage of card-check legislation a centerpiece of their agenda. The long-stalled measure that would require companies to recognize a union once more than half its eligible employees signed union cards instead of putting the question to a secret-ballot vote went nowhere in Obama’ first term, to the chagrin of many union activists.

Card check remains a dead end with Republicans in firm control of the House. Amy Dean, a former head of the AFL-CIO in California’s Silicon Valley, said unions are being more realistic about what they can get.

“They are all about strengthening the right to organize within the confines of what’s politically possible,” Dean said.

Unions showed they still wield considerable political muscle, despite declining membership and having to spend millions fighting efforts in dozens of state legislatures to curb their bargaining rights or limit their political clout. About 11.8 percent of all workers belong to a union; in the private sector union membership is only 6.9 percent.

Exit polls show Obama won 58 percent of voters from union households, compared with 40 percent for Republican Mitt Romney. That margin rose to 60 percent in Ohio and 66 percent in Wisconsin, where 1 of every 5 voters comes from a union household.

“We did deliver those states,” Trumka said. “Without organized labor, none of those would have been in the president’s column.”

Unions expected to spend big — more than $400 million — to help Obama and other union-friendly candidates at the federal, state and local levels. The country’s largest public workers union, the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, says it spent about $100 million while the Service Employees International Union says it spent $85 million.

But labor’s election success hinged in large part on its extensive ground game. Thousands of volunteers made millions of personal contacts with union and nonunion voters. Labor also took advantage of new rules on super-PACs, funneling at least $77 million to the groups, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

An analysis by the Sunlight Foundation, which tracks money in politics, found that unions and other Democratic-leaning groups were far more successful than outside conservative groups in targeting money toward winning House and Senate campaigns. The SEIU spent more than 70 percent of its funds on winners, for example, while Karl Rove’s American Crossroads and its nonprofit affiliate had only a 6 percent success rate.

In addition to measures that may help increase union numbers, labor leaders are also expecting the Obama administration to issue more regulations targeting workplace safety. Proposed rules to protect workers from cancer-causing and lung-damaging silica, often found in the dust at construction sites and glass manufacturing operations, have languished at the White House for more than a year. The administration also has delayed new standards for combustible dust that can cause explosions.

Business groups have opposed the regulations, saying they overreach and would raise employers’ costs by millions of dollars.

Where Is All Are Tax Money Going


This for all who vote and pass taxes and not knowing where they are going!

Does any one care where ALL YOUR taxes go that are passed every year?

I don’t know about you, but I would like to know just where all this money is going, because I can not see any progress any where around that they were put on the ballot for, take for example, School Maintenance, why is it every time that they ask for money to maintain crumbling Schools, it ends up that they always need to build new ones to replace one that are falling apart, WHERE is all this maintenance bond money being spent?

It seems that every time a maintenance  bond is passed Teachers go on strike for more money, it sounds like it goes to Teachers, Administrators, and Unions, but not to maintain the School that it was suppose to go to.

This also goes for the States, Counties, Cities, and the Federal Government, where is all this Tax Money that they are collecting from the American Citizens going to, they keep saying that our highways are falling apart, but what are they doing about it, nothing but wanting to make make them Bigger and wider Highways, if they keep this up, this country will be nothing but one sheet of Asphalt and Concrete, and at this rate you might just as well for get about Global Warming and water conservation, because Asphalt and Concrete will drain any water right to the Oceans if they are still in existence, because Asphalt and Concrete will be one big radiant heater, and if you want heat you got it.

How much Tax money is Exported every year to rebuild Foreign Countries, then from this we have to borrow money to replace what they have spent, and in the mean time our Country is Crumbling, SO Where is all tax money going, I sure can not see any improvement in this Countries Infrastructure.

I see a lot of money being spent on things for Special Interest Groups and lobbyist like Stadiums, Eyesore land marks that down the road get torn down for progress, Turtle Crossings, and now Over passes for wildlife, but not for where it suppose to go.

And now they want to waste Money on telling schools on what kids are going to eat at school, or lose funding.

And remember back an article about students were not allowed to bring a lunch from home because they HAD TO buy the school lunch because of Obama’s new policy, school had to follow or lose funding.

And to go along with these articles, WHY are there more medical problems today then there were years back, for one, Doctors were Doctors, today they seem to be more interested in money then being a Doctors, look at how many of them have gone in to Private Practice, more money, then they want to know why Insurance has gotten so expensive, it does not take a brain surgeon to figure that out, or does it, it makes me wonder with the Education and mentality of the people in the last Thirty years, it seems that they are being brain washed from birth. You know that is not far from the truth, just look how much has been removed from school books for testing and not teaching.

Well they say that Alcohol and Smoking can cause birth defects and health problems, but why are they not talking about the affects of Prescription Drugs on Birth and Health problems that they have today, they do about Illegal Drugs.
